It’s safe to say that few product launches in recent memory have received anywhere near the amount of hype that surrounds SQ’s new A380 cabin products. At this point in time, I think it’s safe to say that if the new Suites don’t have an in-cabin spa, Olympic sized swimming pool and miniature African hunting preserve, everyone is going to be very, very disappointed.
In any case, SQ today confirmed that their much awaited new cabin products will debut on the Singapore-Sydney route in December (called it!). From 18 December 2017 onwards, the following routes will have the new cabin products
- SQ221 departing SIN at 2040 and arriving in SYD at 0740
- SQ232 departing SYD at 1215 and arriving in SIN at 1735.
That’s all we know for now- no news about future routes yet.
If you’re hoping to snag an award ticket on the inaugural flight, I have bad news. It looks like SQ has gone and blocked all award space, at least on the 18th. Unless you’re willing to shell out for a standard economy award, that is.
- Economy- Saver waitlist, Standard available
- Premium Economy- Saver waitlist only
- Business – Saver and Standard waitlist
- Suites- Standard waitlist only
Further out, I can only find Standard award space for Suites (although it’s possible there’s 1 or 2 savers lurking out there somewhere). If you’re willing to splurge 150,000 miles on a one-way ticket, you can find immediate confirmation in Suites on some dates. I’m not seeing a whole lot of Business award space either, at least not in Saver. That said I only really looked for 5 minutes.
Remember- the new cabin products will be launched on 2 November, where the who’s who of the aviation world will be in attendance. The Milelion will find a very tall ladder and try and peep through the window.
