KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes for March 2018 available for booking

Singapore Airlines Spontaneous Escapes for March 2018 is back. Book by 28 Feb for travel within March 2018.

Singapore Airlines recently started offering discounted award flights in the form of the Spontaneous Escapes promotion with certain cities offered at a discount from their normal redemption cost. Singapore Airlines has chosen Valentine’s Day to release its Spontaneous Escapes list for March 2018.

You are able to book these discounted awards starting today (14 February 2018) until 28 February 2018 and your flights must be completed within March 2018. There are some blackout dates (see below).

Note that tickets booked under the Spontaneous Escapes promotion are non-changeable and non-cancellable. This is unlike regular award tickets which at least allow you to refund your booking for a penalty fee. Thus, your travel plans have to be very firm before taking advantage of this promotion.

Fewer city pairs on offer, but SQ221/SQ232 available

The January 2018 list contained more destinations i.e Hong Kong, Taipei, Nagoya, South Africa and even Paris. This time, the list of destinations on offer are heavily concentrated in the Asia Pacific region.

What’s very interesting is that they’re releasing discounted seats for SQ221 and SQ232 for Singapore to Sydney and from Sydney to Singapore. These flights are currently operated with the new A380 cabin products.

A check for flights in March for SQ221 confirms that it is still being operated by the new A380. (as now Suites are only 1 abreast)

Concluding thoughts

Personally I find the list to be rather uninspiring, especially given that Japan, Korea and even Hong Kong are missing from the list of available destinations. Factoring in the lack of business class redemption on SilkAir, I’d look closer at the revenue fares that are on offer before redeeming on SilkAir economy.

Also, the perennial inclusion of Dusseldorf on the list says a lot about the kind of load it’s getting on that flight. Although if you’re already planning a trip to Europe in March and have yet to book your award flights, using Dusseldorf as your transit point for Europe isn’t that bad of an idea.

The saving grace for this round of Spontaneous Escapes I feel, is that SQ221 and SQ232 are on offer. Thus if you’re itching to try out the new business class product on the A380, here’s an excellent opportunity to do it for lesser miles.
