Quick Elite Status

The Idea

  • Status matching opportunities exist if you hold elite status with one airline and are trying to get OneWorld/Star Alliance/Skyteam status
  • Most of the times it is as simple as sending customer service a screenshot of your activity history plus a scan of your card
    • Airberlin- click here
    • Turkish- send an email to customer service via their website- full instructions below
    • Alitalia- click here

 The Details

Like hotel chains, airlines too have embraced the idea of status matching and challenges in order to sway clientele.

One World

AirBerlin will match members of other FFPs to Silver (Ruby) or Gold (Emerald) status in their program. They have a dedicated section on their website where they describe this

I’ve done this match and got a response within 2 weeks. My card arrived after 4 weeks and is valid until April 2016. Because Airberlin is also a member of Etihad’s “fourth alliance”, you can enjoy special benefits like lounge access, extra baggage etc when flying on Etihad, Jet Airways,Virgin Australia and 5 other airlines.

Star Alliance

Turkish Airlines does not have an official status matching policy, but many people online report successfully matching after requesting through the TK website.

The procedure for doing this is to go on their website, select “Contact Us”, click the “New feedback” tab, “Miles & Smiles program” category, “request” feedback type, “membership processing” feedback subject.

Create a PDF that has a scan of the front and back of your FFP card plus a screenshot of your FFP account activity.

You can write something like “Please find attached a PDF of my existing status with XX airline and recent account activity. I would like to request a match to TK Elite (Star Alliance Gold). Thank you”

Remember to click “yes” to “would you like us to reply to your feedback”.

Alitalia offers a status match to members of non-skyteam FFPs which can be found here.

Status matching/challenges where airlines are concerned are generally more of a thing in the hyper competitive US airline market. United, Delta, American, Jetblue and Alaska all offer their own status challenge programs, but these are only offered upon showing status with an American airline so don’t really apply to us.

  1. The Berlin air promo does not exist anymore. Its probably taken down. I am a One World alliance elite member on Finnair.
It seems that in singapore this alliance is really difficult to get any promos going with it as Star Alliance is the one dominating the market here. Any advise or lobang how to get miles for OW FFP?
