Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur Review

Located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, this hotel is a good choice if you have taken advantage of the free Premium membership from the Amex Ascend card.

Prior to checking into the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur (of which you can read more about it here), I was hanging out in the Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur. The Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is located right smack in Jalan Bukit Bintang, the Orchard Road equivalent in Kuala Lumpur. Located right beside Pavilion shopping centre (which is humongous), this hotel is best suited for those who want to shop to their hearts content and not have to worry about lugging their purchases on KL’s public transport or get stuck in the infamous traffic jams.

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur belongs to the Millennium group of hotels, it participates in the My Millennium loyalty programme, which I recently covered in a separate post here!

Upon arrival at the Grand Millennium, we headed to the lobby to check in. Initially the plan was to utilize the free night from the Amex Ascend card but unfortunately, we left the voucher back in Singapore. We were thus quoted a rate of MYR492 for a basic room with breakfast. As we held Premium status in the MyMillennium membership from the Amex Ascend card, we had 2 Club Room upgrades at our disposal and wished to apply one of them for this stay.

Initially, the front desk staff insisted we couldn’t apply it as it was only applicable for online bookings. However, after some discussion with the manager, whom I have contacted via social media prior to my arrival with regards to the application of the club room upgrade voucher (side note : getting things done via Social Media is more efficient than email/calling sometimes), we were given our key cards to our Club Room.

Club King Room

Our room was located on the 17th floor, just one floor below the Club Lounge. As always, pictures speak a thousand words.

View of the lobby, almost walked into the mirrors at the end of the corridor
Good sized room! Love it that they placed the daybed by the windows. For you light sleepers, sound proofing is good

Sadly there’s a lack of plugs beside the bed
Plugs and ports on the desk, interesting that there’s still a DVD player beside (not pictured). 2 International Plugs are available for use ( left plug is connected to the antique known as a DVD player)

The Bathroom contained both a bathtub as well as a standing shower. Interesting. If you’re the type who likes to sit on the toilet bowl like a king, you’d love what you see.

The Throne (love the down light they placed above the toilet
Interesting that they removed the shower from the bathtub. Almost as if they don’t want two people bathing at once…
Standalone shower. Sad that they don’t have a rain shower
Toiletries were in-house ones. Which smelt like well, normal in-house toiletries

Club Lounge

The Club Lounge was located on the 18th Floor. It had plenty of natural light flowing in and I loved it so much. When I was there, evening cocktails were being served. It had enough food to be a dinner substitute honestly. Their fried carrot cake (KL Style) was excellent (to me). Desserts were also sufficient. Beverages like coffee tea and alcohol were not self serve, and this was where the Club Lounge needed improvement as it took close to 10 minutes for my drinks to arrive, and the lounge only had another table of 4 being occupied. Slightly disappointing.

Drinks menu, for in-house guest everything here was free flow (the whisky lover in me cried when I saw they didn’t have a proper single malt)
There were 2 levels in the Club Lounge, on the top is a small business centre with printing facilities
Still running Windows XP. Indeed a dinosaur
Outdoor area, thankfully they have fans (also this was where the smokers were)
The squid karage was sadly soggy as it was covered up and the steam ruined it. Fried Carrot Cake was good though!

Some soggy Onion Rings (again due to the steam) and Baked Pasta , this was also quite decent! Easily a dinner substitute
Selection of light bites and appetizers.
Cheese plate. Hummus and pita bread were available. I’m guessing this hotel sees its fair share of Middle Eastern guests
The cake was delicious! Although I suspect it was taken out from the freezer. But this made it taste like ice cream cake.
Selection of Fruits and Vegetables for the health conscious
Soft Drinks and water were located below the food area

Bottom Line

I did not have breakfast here hence could not personally comment on it, but my parents informed me that they served Green Peas in the lounge for breakfast. A very odd option indeed. Hard boiled eggs instead of scrambled. Hmm. Some improvement needs to be made to the spread. Breakfast downstairs also wasn’t that great according to them.

The rooms were well sized and the Club Lounge had a good evening spread. However, they definitely needed more manpower in the lounge if they are to sustain this model of having drinks ordered off a menu as come on, waiting 10 minutes for a cup of coffee was a bit too much given that there was only one other table which was occupied in the lounge.

Lounge staff however, were very proactive in offering us drinks when we were there and were going around clearing plates even though it wasn’t a full load yet in the lounge.

Personally I would go back to the Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur in the future due to its excellent location in Bukit Bintang, as well as to utilize the other Club Room upgrade voucher that I got from being a Premium member from the KrisFlyer Ascend card. I just hope that during my next visit, the speed of service for drinks would be improved (as well as their breakfast spread as come on, green peas).
