Limited time Qantas Black Friday deal: Fly Business Class to Australia from $599

Qantas is offering excellent Business Class fares ex-SIN for the post Christmas period. Book by 3 December, travel 24-31 December.

To mark Black Friday, Qantas is offering some pretty incredible Business Class deals out of Singapore to PER, MEL, SYD and BNE. These fares can be booked from now till 3 December 2018, and your outbound flight must be between 24-31 December 2018.

Better deal as one-ways

In my opinion, these fares are a lot more worth it as one-way tickets, as the cost of the return leg is anywhere between 1.3X to 1,9X the cost of the outbound one.

I’ve done a bit of poking around on the site and verified that the fares do indeed exist:

SIN-SYD, SIN-MEL
SIN-PER, SIN-BNE

You’ll want to note that these tickets have a $200 change fee and a $300 cancellation fee, and they are eligible for upgrades to First Class assuming you have Qantas points.

Qantas operates two types of aircraft out of Singapore- the A330, and the A380. The A330s are the better choice if you’re going for Business Class, because they have a 1-2-1 all aisle configuration.

The A380s, on the other hand, have rather tired looking 2-2-2 configured seats that don’t have a great deal of privacy.

How can you get back to Singapore?

Assuming you’re a Business Class or bust kind of flyer, how can you get back to Singapore without breaking the bank? One-way Business Class fares out of PER/SYD/MEL/BNE in the post Christmas/early New Year’s period start upwards of S$1.8K, so you’re probably going to want to redeem miles for the return journey.

Book with KrisFlyer

Singapore Airlines B77W Business Class

You might be thinking of booking a KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escape, but sadly the December discounts to SYD and MEL are ex-SIN only. A regular rate Business Class Saver ticket will cost 32,500 miles if you depart from PER, or 58,000 if you depart from SYD, MEL or BNE.

On the plus side, this could be a way of starting a stopover pendulum

Book with LifeMiles

Thai Airways A350 Business Class

If you’ve been picking up LifeMiles at the ongoing 145% Black Friday sale for Milelion readers (PSA: registration ends tomorrow), then you might consider redeeming a one-way Business Class award from Australia to Singapore which costs only 40,000 miles. At the current sale price of 1.347 US cents per mile, this will cost you ~US$540 plus airport taxes (LifeMiles has no fuel surcharges).

You should be able to find award space on Thai Airways between MEL/SYD and SIN, via BKK.

Book with Asia Miles

With Asia Miles’ new distance-based award chart, you should be able to redeem a one-way business class award from PER to SIN for 30,000, and SYD/MEL/BNE for 50,000. These flights will be operated by Qantas. Although the mileage requirement is lower than KrisFlyer, remember you’ll have to pay fuel surcharges.

Book with United MileagePlus

One of the few remaining sweet spots on the United MileagePlus chart is from Australia to Singapore, which costs 50,000 miles. MileagePlus does not impose fuel surcharges, so if you’ve got miles in the program this could be another option. That said, I can’t think of how you’d earn MileagePlus miles in Singapore without buying them outright (Mileslife, perhaps), and in that case you’d be better off with LifeMiles.

Conclusion

I really like the Business Class deals ex-SIN, but you’re going to want to make sure you’ve lined up your return journey before pulling the trigger.

If not mistaken, AUS-SIN is at 50k LifeMiles. 40k is SIN-AUS.

Accor currently has an ongoing promotion until 28 Feb 2019 to convert 2 Accor points = 4 United miles (4x the regular 2:1 conversion rate), which makes an unusually good deal to be had if you are in the LCAH program.

Also, conversions from Marriott to United are good value as well, especially in terms of their travel packages.
