You can now earn KrisFlyer miles through foodpanda

Earn 1 mile per $1 on foodpanda's app and website, with a minimum spend of $35.

If you’re a frequent foodpanda user, you might be interested to know that it’s now possible to earn KrisFlyer miles on your orders.

From today onwards, foodpanda customers earn 1 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent through the app or website, provided they spend a minimum of $35.

It’s not stated explicitly in the T&C, but I’ve confirmed that the $35 minimum spend includes delivery fees- e.g if you place a $34.50 order and have a $2 fee, your total spend of $36.50 will be eligible to earn KrisFlyer miles.

Miles are automatically credited to your KrisFlyer account within six weeks with no transfer fees. Six weeks is a long time, but it could just be them underpromising and overdelivering. I expect we’ll see some data points soon in our Telegram Group regarding crediting times.

It’s mentioned in the T&C that this promotion is valid until 31 Dec 2019. My guess is they’re trialing this to see the uptake, and will take a decision whether or not to renew the partnership closer to year end.

How do you earn miles?

To earn miles with foodpanda, you’ll need to include your KrisFlyer membership number in the “contact info” section during checkout (that’s kind of unintuitive, but it is what it is). This is a one-time exercise, and subsequently your KrisFlyer membership details will be automatically included for eligible orders.

Whatever miles you earn on foodpanda stack with the miles you earn through your credit card- you’ll probably want to try one of the 10X cards (UOB Preferred Platinum Visa, DBS Woman’s World Card) to get the most miles .

How does this compare with GrabFood?

GrabFood customers earn GrabRewards points on their orders, which can be converted into KrisFlyer miles at the following rates:

  • Platinum: 1,400 points= 160 miles
  • All other tiers: 1,500 points= 160 miles

This means that your effective mpd is

TierMPD with GrabFood
Member0.32
Silver0.32
Gold0.48
Platinum0.69

This comes out lower than the 1 mpd that foodpanda is offering, but on the flip side, there is no minimum spend required to earn GrabRewards points on GrabFood orders.

If you’re the sort who often does small orders, you’re definitely better off with GrabFood. On the other hand, if you’re the one who gets to order lunch for the office, you’re going to want to consider foodpanda.

Conclusion

1 mpd isn’t a lot, but it’s better than nothing and if you’re a frequent foodpanda user this could add up over time.

I’ve been roundly unimpressed by foodpanda’s customer service (their default service recovery is a $5 off coupon that’s valid for 2 weeks and requires a minimum spend of $20), and for that reason alone I default to Deliveroo/GrabFood whenever possible.

Do you know if we’ll earn miles if e use it in conjunction with LiveUp membership?

The T&C say:
Offer cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions, discounts, coupons or privileges.

actually I would like to add that with a valid card (eg. Privi Miles or Amex Krisflyer) you can double dip in grab and earn up to 3.2 + 0.69 = 3.89mpd. Quite reasonable too,

Mileshedgehog

I ordered a value of under $35 but the delivery fee took it over the bar. No miles
