Review: Turkish Airlines Lounge Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

Exams are done, holidays are here. Last year, I made a trip up to Bangkok to review the brand new Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10 with its New Regional Business Class product and all of the lounges accessible to Star Alliance Gold and passengers flying in Business Class and above on a Star Alliance airline.

This time, I’m back in cattle class and thought it would be nice to actually check out how comfortable is the new Economy Class seats that can be found on the Boeing 787-10s, regional Airbus A350s as well as the new Airbus A380s. The seats are pretty similar across these 3 aircraft types with only subtle differences between them.

Booking

Prior to my first ever Singapore Airlines Economy Class flight since 2006 (yes I’m not exaggerating), I checked out the mediocre SATS Premier Lounge Terminal 2 which I had access to courtesy of the BOC Elite Miles World Mastercard. Since my lounge passes are due to expire in July 2019, and I believe most of yours will expire then too, I popped in for a coffee and some food.

Initially, I was supposed to fly up to Bangkok on Scoot with a friend. When the Spontaneous Escapes for May 2019 got released, I noticed that Bangkok was back on the list again and using the small number of miles in my KrisFlyer account, I secured an Economy Class award ticket on Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10 aircraft.

Not everyone flies Business Class all the time and thus I figured that an Economy Class flight report would benefit some folks. The Economy Class seat that is fitted on the Boeing 787-10s is also the same type of seat which you can find on the newer A380s which features the 2017 Business and Suites products.

For my return flight home, I finally redeemed an award and used the USD100 stopover method to get my BKK – SIN flight for “free” as part of another trip. The flight will again be on Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10 but in Business Class. Both Aaron and I have reviewed this seat and you can read more in our reviews here and here.

The cost for the Economy Class flight set me back 8,750 KrisFlyer miles and approximately S$60 in taxes. Was it a nice experience? Yes.

On the way back to Singapore, I will definitely check out the newly opened Turkish Airlines Lounge in Suvarnabhumi as well. For reviews for all other Business Class accessible Star Alliance lounges that can be found in BKK (I’ve covered most of them), check out the 26 Hours in Bangkok trip report series.

For my accommodation, I booked the Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok with cash and used the Hilton voucher which came with the Amex KrisFlyer Ascend credit card to book my last night at the Conrad Bangkok to check out their newly renovated rooms.

Unfortunately, my stay at the Hilton Sukhumvit does not qualify for Hilton’s current promotion and I did not earn any major bonus points for the stay. (boohoo)

Stay tuned for the first short installment in the series, a review of the SATS Premier Lounge T2!

Hi Matthew, if you don’t mind could you share which route you redeem for the $100 stop over trick? 😀

Thank you very much Sir!

Cattle class? Seriously? Bragging about not taking the “cattle class” is one thing, but this is the worst ever review.
