Singapore Airlines now offering unlimited Wi-Fi for First Class, 100MB for Business and PPS Club

Singapore Airlines has upsized its free data allowances for premium cabin passengers, and will standardize Wi-Fi prices across the fleet.

Back in February 2018, Singapore Airlines started offering complimentary inflight Wi-Fi to First/Suites and Business Class passengers, as well as PPS Club members. Passengers received either 30 or 100MB of free Wi-Fi, depending on their cabin or status.

Effective immediately, Singapore Airlines has upgraded these allowances. First/Suites passengers now get unlimited Wi-Fi, while Business Class passengers and PPS Club members flying in Premium Economy/Economy enjoy 100MB.

This enhanced allowance only applies to aircraft with newer inflight connectivity systems.

Newer SystemOlder System*
First/ Suites100MB Unlimited100MB
Business Class 30MB 100MB30MB
PPS Club members in Premium Economy/ Economy
30MB 100MB30MB

If you’re on a B787-10 or A350-900 aircraft, you’re guaranteed to have the newer system. If you’re on a B777-300ER or Airbus A380-800, you’ll get the newer system unless you’re on one of the aircraft listed below.

*Aircraft with the older system are listed below
Boeing 777-300ER (19)Airbus A380-800 (13)
  • 9V-SWA, SWB, SWD, SWE, SWF, SWG, SWH, SWI, SWJ, SWK, SWL, SWM, SWN, SWO, SWP, SWQ, SWR, SWS, SWT
  • 9V-SKF, SKG, SKH, SKI, SKJ, SKK, SKL, SKM, SKN, SKP, SKQ, SKR, SKT

Aircraft are gradually being refitted to the newer system, so this list may change over time.

Allowances are not cumulative, which means that a PPS Club member in Business Class will receive either 30 or 100MB depending on the aircraft system, not 60 or 200MB. These allowances apply on a per sector basis, so passengers flying SIN-HKG-SFO will receive one complimentary allowance on the first leg, and a second on the next.

Standardized Wi-Fi pricing now available

Singapore Airlines used to have numerous different plans and pricing, depending on the aircraft type. The good news is that they’re moving to standardize prices across the fleet at the following rates:

  • Chat (30MB or 2 hours, whichever comes first)- US$3.99
  • Pro (100MB, valid for duration of flight)- US$9.99
  • Premium (200MB, valid for duration of flight)- US$15.99

Sadly, the airline no longer offers all-you-can-eat time based plans, as they did before.

Not all aircraft have Wi-Fi

As a reminder, not all Singapore Airlines aircraft offer Wi-Fi. Here’s a summary of which do and which don’t:

Offer Wi-FiDo not offer Wi-Fi
  • A350-900
  • A380-800
  • B777-300ER
  • B787-10
  • A330-300
  • B777-200
  • B777-200ER
  • B777-300

Louis has done some field testing of inflight Wi-Fi speeds, and although he found them to be generally slow, it’s still enough to get the essentials done. Your experience may vary drastically however, depending on passenger usage, weather conditions and location.

Other options for inflight connectivity

As an alternative, Singtel, StarHub, and M1 subscribers can activate unlimited use data packages onboard Singapore Airlines aircraft with connectivity stems.

  • Singtel- S$29 for 24 hours
  • Starhub- S$25 per day
  • M1- S$25 per day

For Starhub and M1, do note that the timer resets daily at 00:00 hours Singapore time- when you’re up in the air it’s hard to remember timezones, but the last thing you want is to be the schmuck who activates his/her plan at 23:59!

If you’re a Citi Prestige cardholder, you’ll enjoy free Boingo Wi-Fi. This is available on aircraft that use the Panasonic Avionics system:

Conclusion

As inflight Wi-Fi gets more ubiquitous, we’re seeing airlines cut prices and increase allowances.  It’s good that Singapore Airlines is following suit, and hopefully the technology has also been upgraded so the increased usage doesn’t result in slower speeds for all.

It’s only a matter of time before Netflix and chill(ed champagne) become a reality at 30,000 feet.

“It’s only a matter of time before Netflix and chill(ed champagne) become a reality at 30,000 feet.”

Qantas domestic has wifi on some planes, it is free and has been advertised as being able to support streaming of Netflix, Spotify and Foxtel (local cable tv operator – Aus version of StarHub tv)

freedom

Current entertainment system is not so different from Netflix, in terms of AVOD. Just need more storage and better interactive interface.

If you can pre-order the movies/TVs you want before flight(like meals), it will be even closer. Something SIA should consider to improve customer experience.

Whilst I appreciate the info – don’t you ever get ashamed about taking your info from other sites and reposting as if it’s your own. Even the formatting is the same. Your CTRL+C/V keys must get very worn. At least the others have the good grace to hat tip each other.

Haha

Haha it’s so obvious and noticeable.. mainlymiles came up with the article.. few days later u will see the same article on here.. rewards points redemption, same thing. Krisflyer basics, same thing.. LOL.. to think that he used to charge for that until mainlymiles came up with free basics overview on his blog.

hoho

mainlymiles? you mean the website which design is a complete copy of this one?

god forbid that blogs which write about miles will cover the same events! might as well say- milelion comes up first with fleet and seat guide, then MM comes up with fleet and seat guide. milelion comes up with wifi and connectivity guide (https://milelion.com/2018/08/30/your-singapore-airlines-inflight-wi-fi-and-connectivity-guide/), MM comes up with wifi and connectivity guide.

might as well say news services copy news services. and last i checked, no one has monopoly on using tables to show info

Oh dear, did Aaron force you to pay him for his Krisflyer classes? You may contact the Police at 999 to report a suspected extortion case. Tip: Central Police Division reports are usually handled faster.

Ben

Once again, seems to be another one of the cheapskates who despite pretending to be the copyright police (not that there was any IP issue here if you ever manage to get off your keyboard and read Wee Loon or George’s book) and crying fowl, is clearly finding this website useful enough to spoonfeed off to actually keep visiting. Looks like it’s not just your CTRL +C/V keys that are worn going by the looks of it. In fact the amount of times Aaron has actually held back from giving inane muppets like yourself their much-desired day in court when… Read more »

Didn’t I read somewhere that Citi P MC no longer has unlimited Boingo onboard..?

Minh

I just used less than 24 hours ago and it worked like a charm.

Happy Camper

Oh cool!

Bizflyer

Is the free wifi on biz class sector based?

Meaning, Sin-Bkk also same 100Mb entitlement as Sin-SFO?

Bizflyer

Gotcha. Thanks Aaron.
