UOB giving away 2 million miles to top transactors on UOB Mighty app

Be among the top 20 transactors on the UOB Mighty App from 9-31 August and win 100,000 KrisFlyer miles each.

UOB Mighty is UOB’s all-in-one app, combining banking, payment, deals and rewards.

The bank is actively pushing adoption by offering exclusive deals and contests only available through the app. Yesterday, for example, they gave away 3,000 x $20 GrabFood vouchers with no minimum spend required, effectively $20 of free money.

Those vouchers are all gone, but UOB has just launched another Mighty app promotion with 2,000,000 KrisFlyer miles on offer.

20 prizes of 100,000 KrisFlyer miles for Mighty top transactors

The 20 customers with the highest number of eligible transactions on the Mighty App between 9 August and 31 August 2019 will win 100,000 KrisFlyer miles each.

Eligible transactions are defined as :

  • Contactless ATM Withdrawals (i.e. ATM withdrawal using the UOB Contactless ATM feature),
  • MightyFX Conversions (i.e. any conversion of Singapore Dollars from an Eligible MightyFX SGD Account to an Eligible MightyFX foreign currency Account)
  • PayNow transactions linked to a UOB Account.

Update: UOB’s customer service rep told me that “highest number” is based on transaction count. In other words, it has nothing to do with value. Make all the S$1 transactions you want.

The promo banner seems to suggest that “highest number” is based on transaction count, which would be a strange mechanic because it’d encourage people to make endless S$1 PayNow transactions to rack up the numbers (although it wouldn’t be the first time UOB ran a promotion like this)

However, the T&Cs clarify that “highest number” is based on volume. That makes a bit more sense, but given that PayNow has zero transaction fees, there’s nothing to stop people from simply PayNow-ing large amounts to and from each other.

100,000 KrisFlyer miles is no small chunk of change, and I could see people doing all sorts of round-trip transactions just to boost their volume. There’s really nothing against it in the T&Cs (plus, it’d be nigh on impossible to enforce), so I guess that’s just a quirk in the mechanics.

Winners will be informed by 30 October 2019, and miles will be awarded within one month from date of notification. These will be credited directly into the winner’s KrisFlyer account and not as UNI$, so you won’t have a choice of FFP.

Conclusion

With 20 prizes up for grabs, this is definitely a contest you want to take note of if you’re a UOB customer.

I wonder how many people will be racking up transaction counts with S$1 transfers to and from bank accounts they have, but I suppose that if you’re committed enough to spend large chunks of your day doing this, you really deserve those 100,000 miles.

Hi Aaron, i think the reverse is true. Volume equals transaction count. Value equals financial value i.e. in $$. So in this case it really refers to transaction count.

Bernard

For Paynow, the cap is $1000 only. That means only smaller trabsactions will count more.

By the way, are both transactions considered as one or two counts ie payments out and payments in to the UOB paynow-linked account.

No miles for me

So a couple of accounts. A couple of phones. A big PayNow limit. And UIAutomator. Wonder how many million transactions can be made before it all goes pear shaped?
