DBS Christmas spend & redeem promotion starts today

Spend a minimum of $100 with any DBS/POSB credit or debit card and win a gift.

DBS has launched its annual spend and redeem promotion for Christmas 2017. From now till 31 December, spend a minimum of $100 in a single receipt with your DBS/POSB credit or debit cards and you’ll be eligible for a sure-win gift. You’ll need to download the DBS Lifestyle app and follow the instructions below:

How it worksPresumably, if I had a big ticket expenditure I’d get the cashier to break it up into intervals of $100 to give myself more plays. The prizes on offer look decent, and hey, it doesn’t cost you anything to participate.

There are 1,400 prizes to be won each day and each cardmember can play up to 6 times per day. The full T&C can be found here, and I’d recommend you have a read of it because it goes into details about the T&C that accompany each gift. What I am pleased to note is that the Qoo10, Zalora, Lazada etc coupons on offer are real gifts, not “valid with a min spend of $XX” gifts (ahem ahem)

The app interface looks simple enough to use. I imagine you should be able to enter this immediately after making your spend assuming DBS’s back end is all synced up, but if not it you’ll need to do it within 6 calendar days from date of spend.

It’s important to note the following payments do not qualify for this promotion:

  1. payments made via telephone or mail order;
  2. payments to government institutions
  3. payments to financial institutions (including banks and brokerages)
  4. payments to insurance companies
  5. bill payments (including utility)
  6. donations
  7. payment of funds to prepaid accounts and merchants who are categorized as “payment service providers” and/or “online payment gateway”. For example, MoneySend, Skrill.com,Matchmove.com, SmoovPay;
  8. payments to educational institutions, hospitals, professional service providers
  9. payment for parking lots
  10. payments made via online banking
  11. payments made via AXS and SAM
  12. EZLink transactions (including Bus and MRT rides)
  13. betting (including lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, off-track betting, and wagers at race tracks)through any channel;
  14. NETS transactions;
  15. balance transfers, cash advance, My Preferred Payment Plan, Installment Payment Plan and any fees and charges (including annual fees, interest charges, cheque processing fees, administrative fees, cash advance fees, finance charges and/or late payment charges and other miscellaneous fees and charges);
  16. unposted/cancelled/disputed/refunded transactions;
  17. any other transactions determined by DBS from time to time

Let’s see what the other banks have to offer!

Thanks to TI for the tip.

I don’t think you need to break it up into $100s as I think a spend of $600 would count as 6 plays. You might need to break it up into $600 per day though.

Peter

On second thought, maybe its better to break it up into $100 each.

Kiwi

Something wrong with the app it seems, I entered details for a $600 purchase but I can keep selecting the gift boxes > 6 times?

Aaron Wong

More importantly, what did you win

Kiwi

Mostly $10 cash vouchers (~10) and many $5 lazada ones.

Jae

Same here. Managed to redeem more than 6 boxes. Going to stop in case they revoke all my prizes (Five $10 Cash Credit and two $15 Lazada coupon)

BIN

Nice thanks for the heads up. I spun once and got the $50 lazada voucher. Gotta use it for black friday this wk!

Tim

DBS is entering UOB’s territory of ambiguous T&Cs. Does the following mean Paypal transactions are excluded?

payment of funds to prepaid accounts and merchants who are categorized as “payment service providers” and/or “online payment gateway”. For example, MoneySend, Skrill.com,Matchmove.com, SmoovPay;

MileTiger (Your best friend!)

Hmm.. it states that I can register up to 6 days from the date of spend. What’s to stop from me from entering in this contest for 6 consecutive days? Oh, and it’s valid for the first 1400 redemption daily, so wouldn’t it make sense for me to register for this at 12am this next day?

Joel

Just tried to spin, got an error that promotion has been fully redeemed today. At 1210. Wtf?

Roberttty

Same here. I tried at 1245hrs and it said fully redeemed. I tried again at 0700hrs and it’s still fully redeemed.

Terence

Just tried at 0002 hrs and also fully redeemed. Hmm maybe it’s taken off in a really big way? Post black Friday? On a side note, just discovered this site a week ago! Great stuff.

Joel

Yea, tried at 0000-0010 for the past two days, instantly fully redeemed.

Aaron Wong

Glad you like it! I’m going to test the system cutoff and reset times and post an update when I can

Sean

Tried at 1200hrs and it’s still fully redeemed.

Terence

Just loaded up the app at 0830 this morning and tried again – without having to key in any details those pesky gingerbread men appeared and I got my voucher. Ah well, $10’s better than nothing no?

Wondering if the day starts at 0800?

Tim

Aaron, time to start going back to your principles, this sponsored post experiment is a failure. You’re spruiking a DBS promotion that is fraudulent.

Whatever UOB’s faults for their totally consumer unfriendly promotion T&Cs, DBS is outdoing them in a massive and illegal way by outright arbitrarily ignoring their own T&C’s. And thanks to this post and the recent DBS sponsored posts, you mate are standing right behind them.

Aaron Wong

I’m not quite sure how you’re drawing a link between this post (which isn’t sponsored) and the recent mca/multiplier posts (which were). It’s worth nothing for the record that this also counts as a blind promo, but somewhat less egregious than what uob does. If by ignoring their own t and c you’re referring to the fact that people don’t seem to be able to win anything then yes that seems to be a problem. I’m planning to test this once my Lifemiles purchases post and will update after that. I completely reject the idea that I’m somehow “standing behind… Read more »

There have been many spend and redeem promotions at the same run by other banks, but this is the only one that got a separate post on this website, and it follows hot on the heels of a series of DBS sponsored posts. Scracth my back, I’ll scratch yours. That is where the link is.

The fact is now painfully clear that DBS does not understand the defintion of a day, nor do they understand when a day commences. This was in breach of their original T&Cs – breaching T&Cs is a lot more shameful than UOB doing blind promos.

Chuckycheese

Tried at 8:20am and managed to redeem Zalora $5 coupon. Terrence’s guess on 8am reset time might be correct.

Adam

Tried redeeming at 12am last night and 10am this morning but it still doesn’t accept any of my transactions. Do you think the promo mechanism seems a little vague and unfair?

Terence

I’ll try another transaction at 0800 ish tomorrow – if gets through that probably points to an 0800 reset time

TL

DBS replied on facebook earlier today (on their 20 Nov post) that “The redemption chances will be refreshed at 8am daily.”

Aaron Wong

Great spot. Will get a post up

V

does cardup qualify for this promo?
or it is considered a payment service provider?
