Did your Chope Dollar balance get mysteriously adjusted?

An unpleasant surprise for some users.

A couple days ago some members of our Telegram Group started reporting that their Chope Dollar balance had declined with no discernible reason. I went to check out my balance, and although I don’t have it memorized, I’m pretty certain it was higher than the 13,800 points that were now reflecting.

I sent an email to the Chope team and got the following response:

Thank you for reaching out to us. We’re so sorry for the confusion.

Recently, in preparation for our upcoming launch of the new Loyalty Program, we looked into revamping the display and recalculated the Chope-Dollars that each diner has in order to ensure accuracy before we move our diners over to the new program. Upon checking the database, it was flagged that a group of diners were affected by an inaccurate display of Chope-Dollars. Hence, this is the reason why you spotted the discrepancy of Chope-Dollars in your account. In your case, it was reflected as 17,000 Chope-Dollars when the actual amount was 13,800 Chope-Dollars. Our engineering team has since rectified the display of Chope-Dollars to the right amount.

We understand that this could come as an unpleasant surprise. In the hurry of fixing the display to reflect the accurate amount of Chope-Dollars for our diners, we have missed out communicating this fix to our diners. Moving forward, we will ensure that all changes will be clearly communicated to our diners.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and do let us know if you require a copy of the logs of all the instances where you earned and redeemed Chope-Dollars from our system for verification. We will be happy to send it over to you for your perusal.

We hope this clarifies and please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further queries.

Like the response itself concedes, I think it’s pretty poor form for Chope to do this without proper communication. If the balance is wrong, it’s wrong, but for the sake of transparency they should have reached out to pre-wire customers about the adjustments.

I’ve gone through my Chope dollar accruals and redemptions and my tally is different from Chope’s 13,800 figure, so I’ve requested for an itemized reconcilation

Reconciling your balance

You can try to manually reconcile your Chope dollars by going to your Chope dollar balance and copying and pasting the entire table into Excel. You’ll then see something like (1) below. Add a filter and remove all non-number fields (2). You’ll then get a list that looks like (3), which you can sum up to see your Chope balance.

One last adjustment needs to be made- your Chope dollar history will include reservations that you made and later cancelled, such as my Zafferano reservation on 12 August 2018. These will reflect as positive points accruals, but you obviously won’t get any points for these. You need to manually minus any points that have “cancelled” reflected in the status to get your final figure.

Was your Chope dollar balance affected by the adjustments?

I’ve had 2 or 3 instances where I showed (of course) for a reservation but was subsequently tagged as ‘no show’ and I’ve had to prove that I was indeed there, by means of sending in pic of receipt.. god forbid if I didn’t take a pic of receipt, huh..?

Aside from those instances, maybe because I’ve never thought I would be able to accumulate that many chope dollars in first place, every time I hit 1200 chopedollars, I’d immediately transfer to KF miles.. safer..

Heng ah… i transferred whenever i hit 1200 chope-dollars too.

I had same experience where points were credited but after that cancelled without my knowledge. When I asked they said restaurant flag as no show. Luckily I had receipt to proof but for some visits where I only discovered months after, how can they just unilaterally remove the points.. beware..

My point balance actually went up…
