KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes for July 2018 announced

Extensive destinations on offer in July's Spontaneous Escapes promotion. Excellent opportunity to sample Singapore Airlines new cabin products for less.

Singapore Airlines releases a list of discounted KrisFlyer redemption Saver awards to select destinations every month called “Spontaneous Escapes“. These discounted awards are going at a 30% discount compared to their normal redemption prices.KF Escapes

Singapore Airlines has just released the list for travel in July 2018.  You’ll need to book these discounted award tickets by 30 June 2018 and travel between 1 July 2018 – 31 July 2018. Note that there are several blackout dates which are stated on the website and flights on these dates will price out at the normal redemption rates.

A reminder that tickets issued under the Spontaneous Escapes promotion are non-changeable and cannot be cancelled as well. This is unlike regular award tickets which at least allow you to refund your booking for a fee. Thus, your travel plans have to be very firm before taking advantage of this promotion (or you should buy a travel insurance policy that covers miles and points bookings).

Also note that if you are waitlisted on a Spontaneous Escapes award and should your waitlist not clear by 30 June 2018, you will be charged the normal rates for your award ticket when it clears.

Huge variety of flights and more chances to try the new cabin products for less

In July’s edition of the Spontaneous Escapes promotion, Singapore Airlines has given us a bounty of destinations to choose from with over 50 destinations on offer! Around the region, Bangkok is available and the flight pair of SQ983 and SQ982 which are operated using the brand new Boeing 787-10 aircraft featuring the excellent new regional Business Class seats are available for booking! If you want to spend more time on board experiencing the new 787 Business Class product, Osaka is also available for booking in this round’s Spontaneous Escapes promotion from Singapore on SQ622 and from Osaka on both of SQ’s twice-daily flights.

Singapore Airlines B787-10 Business Class

Favourite holiday destinations of Hong Kong and Seoul are available in Business Class at Spontaneous Escapes rates. Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou make their appearance in this round’s Spontaneous Escapes promotion yet again. Sadly Tokyo is only available for redemption at Spontaneous Escape rates in Economy Class.

If you have been wanting to try out Singapore Airlines new A380 product, you can do so to Hong Kong on SQ856 and SQ861 as this flight pair is operated with the new Airbus A380. The return flight from Hong Kong on board the new A380 is also available for booking. Aaron has reviewed the new Business Class seats on the new A380 and you can read more about it here.

New A380 Business Class Seat

The South Asia region is also seeing plenty of destinations on offer and Johannesburg is being offered at Spontaneous Escapes rate for the very first time and a one-way Business Class redemption can be had for just 31,500 KrisFlyer miles. That’s an excellent price for a flight which is close to 11 hours. Flights to Johannesburg are operated by the A350 aircraft with the 2013 Business Class seats which still remains an excellent hard product.

Down under, almost all of Singapore Airlines Australian destinations are on offer in July’s edition of the Spontaneous Escapes promotion with the exception of Melbourne. However, flights to Perth, Sydney, Canberra and Christchurch are unavailable for booking and only flights originating from these destinations are available for booking under Spontaneous Escapes rates. SQ216 from Perth is operated by the new Boeing 787-10 so that’s another destination to experience the new 787 seat on a longer flight. Flights to New Zealand are also available via Wellington.

Over in Europe, Dusseldorf makes its appearance yet again and this time it has its German cousin Frankfurt for company in the list of available destinations for Europe. Strangely, only the outbound flight from Singapore is available for booking to both Dusseldorf and Frankfurt in July’s Spontaneous Escapes promotion. Thus for your flight back, you will have to pay the normal Saver rate of 85,000 KrisFlyer miles or 120,000 KrisFlyer miles for an Advantage award for the one-way flight back from Europe.

On their sister airline SilkAir, the list of destinations isn’t as extensive as previous editions of Spontaneous Escapes with hot destinations such as Phuket and Koh Samui not on the list. In addition, only Economy Class seats are valid for redemption under Spontaneous Escapes rates unlike previous editions where we saw Business Class being offered as well.

Here’s the full list of destinations available for booking in July’s edition of Spontaneous Escapes.

Concluding Thoughts

Personally this is the best Spontaneous Escapes promotion that I can remember with great destinations on offer. While not specifically advertised, this presents us with the opportunity to sample Singapore Airlines new cabin products at a lower rate. We have yet to see destinations in the United States appear in the list of available destinations for Spontaneous Escapes and I’m really crossing all my fingers and toes that it happens sometime in the future.

Will you be spontaneous and take advantage of these great Spontaneous Escape deals?

A lot of one way this time.

SQ is getting smarter.

Asian Miler

Meh, unimpressive considering the number of destination one-ways only.

Randy

A little off topic..
https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/SQMI_AwardChart_23Mar.pdf

For a first timer (I admit I am still quite newbie in this miles game) who has finally saved enough miles.. seeing that Europe (zone 11) & USA West Coast (zone 12) cost about the same miles for business class, which is actually more worth it?

Europe or US West Coast?

Phil

Really depends where you want to go.
However, it is worth remembering that there are a lot more flights to Europe so far more award availability.
