Norwegian’s New Year Sale offers round-trip London tickets from S$459

Norwegian is kick starting the New Year with excellent fares to London. Keep in mind you'll still be flying budget.

No, this is not click bait. I’m not like one of those sites who only show you a one way fare in the caption and exclaim how cheap it is to fly to London. You read this caption right. You can potentially fly to London for as low as S$459, round trip, all in.

See, told you I wasn’t kidding

Currently, Norwegian is running its New Year sale where fares are to be booked by 15 January 2018 and are valid for travel up until 31 October 2018. Last year, they launched flights to London Gatwick, London’s second largest airport (albeit being way smaller than Heathrow). For those who’re not familiar, London has 5 airports with the word “London” in its name :

  • London Heathrow (LHR)
  • London Gatwick (LGW)
  • London City Airport (LCY)
  • London Luton (LTN)
  • London Stansted (STN)

With Stansted and Luton being ridiculously far from central London itself. They’re also the airports which you’ll fly out of when flying Easyjet or Ryanair. (eww)

Fares starts at S$459 (Low Fare) , with baggage and meals at S$643 (Low Fare Plus), Premium Fares above S$2,200

A quick check shows that the lowest available fare combination of S$463 can be found throughout the travel period 31st October. Interestingly, promotional fares can still be found during the March and June School Holidays. Premium Fares however, are still super pricey, coming up close to S$2,200 for a return trip.

So if you’re planning to go to Korea or Japan. DON’T. GO TO LONDON. ENJOY SOME FISH AND CHIPS. (sorry I’m an Anglophile)

All in fares with meals and baggage (i.e Low Fare Plus) in June would cost you S$700 round trip. A steal if you ask me.

A quick check on full service carriers between Singapore and London during the June school holidays would cost you upwards of S$1,033 on Malaysian Airlines. Granted you’ll be able to try their new A350 to London Heathrow but well, there’s also that transit time in Kuala Lumpur to factor in when flying with them. I have only bad things to say about KLIA sadly.

The cheapest direct flight to London that I could find on Google Flights would cost you approximately S$1,300, on British Airways. An excruciating S$500 more.

With the service cuts to BA recently, one could only question if they still can charge a premium

Technically, you could also redeem your miles to London. However most of the time, they’ll be on waitlist. More so during the peak periods.

Cheap fares, free IFE and USB power, what’s there not to like?

Yes you read that right, a budget carrier which offers FREE In-flight entertainment on their long haul routes (I’m looking at you Scoot). Also, there’s a USB port built into the screens to charge our power hungry mobile devices (should you wish to finish a whole series of Netflix you downloaded).

Norwegian flies their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to Singapore, the larger variant of the 787 family. Meaning your flight would be a more comfortable one due to the lower cabin altitude pressures (787s are pressurized at 6000 feet vs 8000 feet on the 777-300ERs) that the cabin is set at. Seat layouts are in a 3-3-3 configuration, the same as what most airlines configures their 787s in.

Personally, I would purchase these fares in an instant and head to London after my finals in May and provide you guys with a trip report. Sadly, I do not have S$650 to spend.

Should you wish to grab onto these fares Norwegian are offering, putting it on the DBS Woman’s World Mastercard would earn you 4 miles per dollar(mpd), DBS Altitude cards would earn you 3mpd, while the Maybank Horizon Visa and HSBC Revolution would net you 2 mpd.

Technically speaking there is also London Southend Airport

“due to the lower cabin pressures that they keep the cabin at”

Is it higher pressure?

No disrespect but there is nothing postworthy of this post, the price was lower at launch, 199 per way and most of us who follows the milelion are attracted to the premium travel hacking tools and experience that Aaron and co indulges in. Go to flight deals and secret flyer sites, they have routine sales to US for SGD650-700 return on many of the Chinese airlines which are full fare and all inclusive, that makes this deal not so attractive after all.

Prettu

what a bitter c|_|nt

Thanks for the news!

We went to London Gatwick with Norwegian in October 2017. Return ticket for 2 pax was SG$979.
Overall experience is good.

Beside the IFE, USB ports, I find the seat space is good enough for me.

Not sure about the meal as I didn’t order any in flight meal.
