IHG runs its quarterly PointBreaks promotion where selected IHG hotels will go at a deeply discounted award prices which range from 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points to 15,000 IHG Rewards Club points.
The current IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks promotion will come to an end on 31 July 2018 and IHG Rewards Club has surprisingly announced that the new PointBreak list will be available for booking from midnight, 24 July 2018 (Singapore Time).
5 hotels teased, many more to come
IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks are usually announced on the first day of the month so IHG is bucking the trend by announcing it a whole week earlier. IHG posted a teaser on their Facebook page where it lists 5 hotels which will be appearing on the next PointBreaks list.
If you’re too lazy to watch the video, here are the hotels that IHG has named in the video:
- InterContinental Doha
- Hotel Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk
- Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront
- Holiday Inn Dead Sea
- Hotel Indigo Orange Beach
It’s nice to see an InterContinental on the list and my fingers are crossed that there will be an InterContinental in the region which will be going at PointBreaks rates.
Three different PointsBreaks tiers, purchase points for cheap nights
Back in 2017, IHG PointBreaks hotels could be had at a flat rate of 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points. However this year, IHG Rewards Club somewhat devalued the PointBreaks promotion by adding two additional award prices for PointBreaks hotels. At the moment, there are three price categories within the PointBreaks promotion:
- 5,000 IHG Rewards Club per night
- 10,000 IHG Rewards Club per night
- 15,000 IHG Rewards Club per night
The Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium was one of the hotels which was going at 15,000 IHG Rewards Club points in the current PointBreaks promotion and it was definitely a steal if you managed to book it.
PointBreaks are an excellent use of IHG Rewards Club points as it unlocks the possibility of being able to book an IHG property in the PointBreaks list from just US$25 a night. Of course, with the introduction of the 10,000 IHG Rewards Club and 15,000 IHG Rewards Club category some hotels will cost you US$50 and US$75 respectively but that’s still a very good price to pay for a night at an InterContinental or a Holiday Inn even.
Of course, the prices quoted in the previous paragraph is assuming that you are able to purchase IHG Rewards Club points at US 0.50 cents a piece and there currently is a sale that IHG is holding which offers IHG Rewards Club points at that price. The bonuses that are offered in this sale are targeted and you may receive anything upwards of a 50% bonus. Even with a 50% bonus, your cost of acquiring IHG Rewards Club points will be US 0.67 cents per point, that’s still only US$33.50 for a PointBreaks hotel that is priced at 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points which is still a great price.

Concluding Thoughts
I highly recommend keeping a close watch for the upcoming PointBreaks list which will go live at midnight 24 July 2018 (Singapore Time) as there might be a property which catches your eye.
