DBS credit cards offering up to 7 mpd on Agoda bookings

Expired

Book by 30 June and stay by 31 July 2024 to earn an extra 3 mpd on all Agoda bookings made via the DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace.

DBS has launched a new offer for Agoda bookings via its DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace portal, which gives an extra 3 mpd on prepaid hotel bookings stayed by 31 July 2024

Combined with the regular earn rates, this presents an opportunity to earn up to 7 mpd on hotel stays, which could be lucrative if the rates are competitive.

Bonus 3 mpd for DBS cards with Agoda

DBS x Agoda

Here’s the key details of the bonus 3 mpd promotion with Agoda:

  • All stays must be fully prepaid on the DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace (you will not earn the bonus if you book via Agoda’s website)
  • Bookings must be made by 30 June 2024
  • Stays must be completed by 31 July 2024

When browsing the DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace, be sure to click on the Agoda rates (the search engine may also show results from Expedia too, which is ineligible for the bonus).

You can further confirm you’re viewing the right rates by looking for the “fulfilled by Agoda” label on the results page.

Even though stays must be fully pre-paid at the time of booking, you can still book refundable rates in case you need that extra flexibility.

The following DBS credit cards are participating in the offer:

  Normal Rate Bonus Total
DBS WWMC 4 mpd 3 mpd 7 mpd
DBS Woman’s Card 2 mpd 3 mpd 5 mpd
DBS Vantage 1.5 mpd 3 mpd 4.5 mpd
DBS Altitude 1.3 mpd 3 mpd 4.3 mpd
DBS Treasures Black Elite 1.2 mpd 3 mpd 4.2 mpd
All DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace transactions are processed in Singapore dollars, regardless of hotel country, so only the local earn rate applies.

The maximum bonus is capped at S$5,000 of spending per calendar month, or 15,000 bonus miles. Both principal and supplementary cards share the same bonus cap.

The T&Cs are silent as to whether the cap applies on a customer or card basis, but DBS has confirmed it’s the former. It doesn’t matter how many cards you have; the maximum bonus is fixed at 15,000 miles per customer.

When will bonus miles be credited?

All bookings will initially accrue miles at the card’s regular earn rate.

The bonus 3 mpd will be credited to your card account (in the form of DBS points) within 60 days after the end of the transaction month.

Alternative offer: 15% off Agoda for DBS Cards

Landing page

Agoda is running a separate offer for DBS cards, which is available through a special landing page on its website. This offer, which can’t be stacked with the aforementioned 3 mpd promo, gives DBS and POSB cardholders 15% off the usual rates capped at S$30 per booking.

Cardholders will then receive their usual earn rates, such as 4 mpd for the DBS Woman’s World Card, and 1.3/2.1 mpd for the DBS Altitude Cards depending on currency.

To enjoy this offer, you must book by 31 March 2024 and stay by 31 December 2024. Only prepaid rooms with the “Promo Eligible” tag are eligible.

Conclusion

DBS is now offering a bonus 3 mpd on Agoda hotel bookings made via the DBS Travel & Leisure Marketplace portal, capped at S$5,000 per calendar month. This works out to an earn rate of up to 7 mpd depending on card, available for stays all the way till 31 July 2024.

As with all OTAs, I’d strongly recommend comparison shopping to ensure you’re not paying over the odds for the bonus miles. A tool like Kayak or Google Hotels lets you search multiple OTAs at once, ensuring the rates you’re getting are competitive.

Bonus miles are not worth it – you are much better off to take the 15% off offer.

I noticed that Agoda processed Visa transactions in Singapore and Mastercard transactions in Hong Kong. You will pay 1% more using cards like DBS WW. If you cancel the booking, the bank will charge you another 1%. Not very nice.

On a side note, Agoda offers 20% discount (capped at $60) for bookings with Citi cards. I think that’s a much better deal.

Kate

I have been using Citi master for Agoda bookings and so far all my refunds will refund back the exact fcy I paid. Wonder why dbs ww would be any different

Freddy

I don’t know about Citi. But I know DBS and OCBC are different. DBS charges the actual transaction and the 1% together, but OCBC charges them separately.

For example, for a $100 transaction, DBS will charge $101. For the refund they only return $99. For OCBC, they will charge $100 and $1 in two transactions. For the refund, they will refund $100 and another $1.

Maybe Citi works like OCBC.

I know you can call in to get the 2% difference back. But it’s a hassle.

I have been trying to “find” the Agoda Citi 20% discount without success. I can find the link from the Citi site. Says there is 20% discount until 29 Feb 2024. Click it. Go to the Agoda site. But can’t find any hotel anywhere giving any discount when entering the CIti card.

UOB does the same too, +1% on the charged amount and -1% on the refund. I’m still trying to get this resolved.
