DBS Takashimaya AMEX offering S$88 cashback for new and existing customers

From now till 31 December 2024, get S$88 cashback with a new DBS Takashimaya AMEX and a minimum spend of S$250, available to both new and existing DBS cardholders.

Since February 2024, the DBS Takashimaya AMEX Card has been running a lucrative welcome offer of S$150 cashback with a minimum spend of S$250, available to both new and existing DBS customers.

The offer has now been further renewed till 31 December 2024, but unfortunately the reward has been cut to S$88 cashback, with all other criteria remaining the same.

It’s still a good offer in and of itself, since existing customers usually get nothing at all when signing up for additional cards (with limited exceptions for the $120K segment), but not as good as before obviously.

DBS Takashimaya AMEX Card S$88 cashback offer

Apply

Customers who apply and receive approval for a DBS Takashimaya AMEX Card from 1 September to 31 December 2024 will receive S$88 cashback when they spend at least S$250 within 30 days of approval at:

This welcome offer does not apply to the DBS Takashimaya Visa Card.

The first year’s annual fee is waived, so it really is free money if you meet the criteria. There is no cap on the maximum number of eligible applicants, and is available to both new and existing DBS/POSB cardholders; the only exclusion is for individuals who cancelled a DBS Takashimaya AMEX or Visa in the past 12 months.

However, if you meet the definition of a new-to-bank customer for DBS/POSB, do not apply for this card first! You should take advantage of a different DBS welcome offer that’s only for new-to-bank customers, then apply for the DBS Takashimaya AMEX.

For example, new-to-bank customers can currently enjoy up to 25,000 bonus miles when they apply for a new DBS Altitude Card, so I’d encourage you to look at that first before getting the DBS Takashimaya AMEX.

Extended: DBS Altitude Card 25,000 miles welcome offer

Qualifying spend period

Cardholders will need to make a minimum qualifying spend of S$250 within one month from the date of approval.

For example, if your card is approved on 15 September 2024, the qualifying spend period is 15 September 2024 to 14 October 2024.

When will cashback be credited?

The S$88 cashback will be credited within 3-5 months from the end of the qualifying spend period. This cashback need not be spent at Takashimaya; you can use it anywhere that AMEX cards are accepted.

Given this timeline, you’ll still need to pay your first month’s bill through other means as it’s not an immediate offset.

In my previous experience (from 2021), the S$200 cashback was credited to my account on 25 October, 34 days after I made the minimum qualifying spend.

If you don’t see the cashback on your DBS Takashimaya AMEX account, be sure to check your other DBS cards because reports say it could be posted elsewhere.

Conclusion

Apply

The DBS Takashimaya AMEX is now offering an S$88 welcome gift to both new and existing DBS cardholders, valid for applications till 31 December 2024.

Even though it’s been downsized from the previous S$150, it’s still a good offer if you’re an existing DBS cardholder, mainly because you wouldn’t be entitled to any sort of gift normally anyway. However, new-to-bank customers should take advantage of another welcome offer first before applying for this card.
