All first-time American Express KrisFlyer cobrand cardholders will enjoy 5,000 miles on their first spend of any amount. This is a once per lifetime bonus, so if you’ve previously held an American Express KrisFlyer cobrand card before, you won’t receive this a second time.

New cardholders who spend S$2,000 in the first 3 months of approval will receive 15,000 miles, and a further 1,000 miles for applying via The MileLion. Assuming this S$2,000 is spent locally, 2,200 base miles will be earned (@ 1.1 mpd).

โ“ Definitions

New cardholders: New cardholders are defined as those who do not currently hold a principal American Express credit card (excluding the AMEX HighFlyer Card and AMEX cards issued by DBS/UOB), and have not cancelled an AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card in the past 12 months.

This means that for S$2,000 spend, a new cardholder would receive a total of 23,200 miles.

Terms & Conditions

This offer cannot be further stacked with any MGM bonuses, and terminating the card within six months of approval will lead to a clawback of the welcome gift.

In terms of crediting timelines:

  • 15,000 miles will be credited within 8-10 weeks of the date the spend threshold is met
  • 1,000 miles will be credited within 12 weeks of the date the spend threshold is met

Any questions about the promotion should be directed to American Express (and if the CSOs say to contact The MileLion, they’re mistaken; all fulfilment is from the AMEX side).

For avoidance of doubt, spending by both principal and supplementary cardholders will be pooled when determining whether the minimum spend threshold has been met.

What spending is eligible?

AMEX has a list of excluded spending categories here, but the key ones to note are:

  • GrabPay top-ups
  • Insurance
  • Public hospitals and polyclinics
  • SPC transactions
  • Utilities

For the avoidance of doubt, CardUp, private and non-profit hospital bills, donations, and anything else not explicitly stated in the exclusion list will count as eligible spend.

Weak

Much weaker offer right?

Weak

Are there even any existing cardholders? Just need to cancel the cards before application because they only exclude the same card you are applying.

Minor inconvenience

Nothing stopping you from cancelling and reapplying straight away.

lol

our definition of a minor inconvenience must be very different.

and dude, are you seriously suggesting someone with an amex plat charge or amex plat credit card should forfeit the rest of their annual fee by cancelling just so they can count as new? that’s just silly.

Lol2

My friend. If you are holding the charge card this blue card is below your status. The regular cc can be cancelled and reapplied in 5 mins from your bed.

lol

pause for a moment and consider what you’re saying. what other amex card could you have now?

amex KF ascend- cancel early and waste annual fee
amex plat cc- cancel early and waste annual fee (even if you got it with first year free, that’s a one-time offer you won’t get again)
amex plat charge- cancel early and waste annual fee.

so it’s not as simple as just cancelling all your cards to count as a new customer.

Lol2

Are you suggesting you won’t give up 100 of annual fee for 15k extra miles?

lol

which card has a $100 annual fee? all of them are at least $300, which makes a big difference.

Lol2

Ok la. I’ll bite. You can’t cancel cards within 6 months of application otherwise they will claw back the bonus. So any card that falls under this bonus will be at least 6 months old. Which means that by default you the max AF leftover is half of whatever. And any card that is more than 1 year, chances are you already have a waiver anyway. There’s no loss of benefits because you’ll get it back again on reapplication.

Kelvin

Hi Aaron, I have confirmed with AMEX CSO: Sign up bonus of 15k is only for new to bank (I.e. not cancelled any AMEX card, not just AMEX krisflyer)

Kelvin

Ok, confirmed with Krisflyer, you are right Aaron. CSO was wrong, like that in the future need to really scrutinize the TnCs, cannot rely fully on them

Joe

CSO also told me that if you hold the Ascend card, you cannot refer someone to the Blue card. I directed them to the T&Cs that clearly indicated otherwise, they told me the T&Cs was wrong (!).

Ignored them and referred anyway, got my bonus miles.
