Singapore Airlines announces June 2020 schedule and flight cancellations

Singapore Airlines' 96% capacity cut continues into June, with 15 destinations and 312 flights scheduled for the month.

Just a few days after publishing their schedule for May 2020, Singapore Airlines and SilkAir have released June’s schedule too, and it’s more of the same.

Like May, Singapore Airlines is maintaining connectivity to just 15 cities, with 312 flights scheduled (versus 325 for May, but remember, June has one less day). This works out to an average of just over five flights departing from Changi Airport daily.

What flights are still operating?

Here’s the list of Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights that will operate in June 2020. Any flight not listed below is cancelled.

What if my flight has been cancelled?

If your flight has been cancelled, you’re entitled to a 100% refund in cash, or via flight credits with a S$75-500 bonus.

This assumes your ticket has not been used at all. If the ticket is partially used, you’ll receive a pro-rated refund of the remainder (calculated at SIA’s discretion). You will not be entitled to bonus flight credits.

To make the point clear: flight cancellations initiated by Singapore Airlines/ SilkAirย entitle you to a refund regardless of when your ticket was issued. This is stated in black and white in the FAQs on Singapore Airline’s website.

However, even if your flight has not been cancelled, you may still be entitled to a refund.

To summarize: if your travel date is up to 30 June 2020, and your ticket was issued before 15 March 2020, you can request a refund and receive a 100% refund in cash, or in flight credits with a S$75-500 bonus.

If your travel date is up to 30 June 2020,ย andย your ticket was issued from 16 March 2020 onwards, you’re only entitled to a free one-time change to your travel dates. If you want a refund, it’ll be in accordance with the ticket’s original stipulated conditions.

For those of you with travel from 1 July 2020 onwards, my advice is to sit tight. Singapore Airlines is taking this month by month, and if the Covid-19 situation hasn’t improved by then, it’s a virtual certainty that the current policy will be extended.

The crucial date here is really 15 March 2020. If you bought a ticket after that date (when MOH issued an advisory against all non-essential travel abroad), it’s hard to argue you didn’t know what you were getting yourself into.

Other important Covid-19 travel information for Singapore Airlines can be found here.

Conclusion

Singapore Airlines’ schedule for June mirrors that of May, andย  it’s clear the airline sees this as the bare minimum connectivity it needs to maintain. A 96% capacity cut and 15 destinations is a far cry from what things were in January, but it is what it is.

If your flight has been cancelled, do familiarize yourself with your rights and entitlements, especially if you booked it through a third party OTA. I’ve received reports that OTAs are denying passengers cash refunds, even when the airline’s policy clearly provides for it. Be firm, document all communication with the third party, and be prepared to file a credit card chargeback if needed.

Don’t chargebacks have to be filed within two months of the transaction date?

lifeonthego_k

2 months is what some SG based banks state (OCBC, etc.), but looking at the time frames Visa and MasterCard have, it’s more like 120 days (https://www.chargebackgurus.com/blog/dont-run-out-the-clock-understanding-chargeback-time-limits#What-are-visas-chargeback-time-limits). I recently filed a successful dispute with OCBC for a transaction that was around 110 days out.
