The OCBC Rewards Card is having something of a mini-renaissance after its big nerf at the end of 2023, with cardholders now enjoying a quarterly 6 mpd promotion for selected merchants and categories.
The latest offer, which runs till 31 December 2024, offers 6 mpd on Watsons and department stores capped at S$1,000 per month (the latter particularly useful thanks to HeyMax gift cards).
OCBC has now launched a further targeted offer that boosts the earn rate at Watsons to 12 mpd, although there is a relatively low cap of S$160, not to mention a maximum of 2,000 eligible cardholders.
OCBC Rewards Card offering 12 mpd at Watsons
From 12 July to 31 August 2024, targeted OCBC Rewards Cardholders can earn an extra 15 OCBC$ per S$1 spent at Watsons (equivalent to an extra 6 mpd).
Cardholders must receive an eDM, mobile push notification or SMS from the bank to be eligible to participate. No further registration is required.
The bonus is capped at 2,400 OCBC$ for the entire promotion period, which works out to S$160 of spending. Moreover, there is a cap of 2,000 cardholders, so there’s no guarantee you’ll receive the bonus even if you’re otherwise eligible.ย
For avoidance of doubt, this is stackable with the ongoing public offer of 6 mpd for Watsons and department stores, so eligible cardholders could earn up to 12 mpd in totalย as broken down below.
Component | Monthly Cap (OCBC$) |
Monthly Cap (S$) |
Base: 5 OCBC$ per S$5 (0.4 mpd) |
N/A | N/A |
Regular Bonus: 45 OCBC$ per S$5 (3.6 mpd) |
10,000 OCBC$ | S$1,110* |
Watsons & Department Store Bonus: 25 OCBC$ per S$5 (2 mpd) |
5,000 OCBC$ | S$1,000 |
Extra Watsons Bonus: 75 OCBC$ per S$5 (6 mpd) |
2,400 OCBC$ (cap for entire promo period) |
S$160 (cap for entire promo period) |
*Really S$1,111, but remember that OCBC only awards points in blocks of S$5 |
What kind of spending counts?
The bonus is applicable to transactions made at Watsons physical stores and official online store.
Watsons purchases made via online marketplaces such as Lazada and Shopee, will not be eligible. Since this bonus is tracked and awarded based on merchant name, pairing Amaze with the OCBC Rewards Card would prevent you from earning it (Amaze modifies the transaction description in a way such that OCBC doesn’t see it as Watsons anymore).ย
While the T&Cs are silent on this, my assumption would be that both local and overseas spending is eligible, so spending at Watsons outside of Singapore would count too.
When will the bonus be credited?
The bonus OCBC$ from this offer will be credited by 31 October 2024.ย

Extended: OCBC Rewards 6 mpd for department stores and Watsons
Conclusion
OCBC Rewards Cardholders should check and see if they’ve been targeted for an extra 6 mpd at Watsons, which is stackable with the public 6 mpd offer for Watsons/department stores for a total of 12 mpd.
There is a relatively low cap of S$160, and an eligibility cap of 2,000 cardholders to contend with, but even without the targeted offer, the public 6 mpd offer makes this the best card to use at Watsons anyway. Just see it as a bonus if you get anything more.
Relax. It’s ocbc.
Any idea how the “first X” squares with the fact no further action is required on our part? That part doesnt make sense to me..
