New AMEX Offer: Save S$100 off Cathay Pacific tickets

From now till 6 October 2024, spend at least S$500 with Cathay Pacific and get a S$100 statement credit per registered card.

American Express has launched a new AMEX Offer for Cathay Pacific, which gives registered cardholders a S$100 statement credit with a minimum spend of at least S$500.

This could be useful if you’re planning to buy a commercial or award ticket with Cathay Pacific or its Asia Miles loyalty programme, and represents up to 20% cashback, on top of your regular credit card rewards.ย

Registration is required, and can be done via the AMEX Offers portal.ย

โ“ What are AMEX Offers?

AMEX Offers are opportunities to earn bonus miles/points, or statement credits. These can be found in the โ€œOffersโ€ section of the AMEX app or web portal.ย

Registration is required, and some offers may be targeted. These are not applicable to DBS/Citi/UOB AMEX cardholders.ย

For more on AMEX Offers and how they work, refer to this post.ย

Get S$100 back on Cathay Pacific spending

Here’s the key details of this AMEX Offer:

  • A minimum spend of S$500 is required, inย one or more transactions
  • Only valid for flights departing from Singapore and paid in Singapore Dollars
  • Tickets must be purchased via http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_SG.html or the Cathay Pacific app
  • Offer can be enjoyed a maximum of once per registered card
  • Payments must be made by 6 October 2024

A total registration cap of 5,000 cards applies, but you can register as many cards as were targeted for this offer.

You have the choice of booking either Cathay Pacific commercial tickets, or award tickets via Asia Miles. It shouldn’t matter whether the Asia Miles awards are on Cathay Pacific or its partner carriers; so long as the credit card transaction is processed by Cathay Pacific (which it will be for Asia Miles) and charged in SGD (you may need to change the currency during check-out), you’re fine.

A reminder that all your tickets have to be booked directly on Cathay Pacific’s website or its mobile app. Any transactions made with third-party OTAs like Expedia.com will not be eligible.ย

As always, statement credits should appear within 15 business days at most.ย

Stacking with Fly2HK promotion

If you’re planning to visit Hong Kong, there’s an opportunity to stack this offer with the ongoing Fly2HK promotionย (thanks to GwK in the MileChat for pointing this out).

From now till 29 August 2024, you can buy a pair of round-trip Economy Class tickets to Hong Kong for S$574 total, sponsored (“subsidised” would be a better word) by Hong Kong International Airport. Taking a further S$100 off courtesy of AMEX would be pretty decent, for a full-service carrier.

Departure dates must be by 31 March 2025, with a travel duration of 2-7 days.ย To take advantage of this offer, enter the promo code SGFLY2HKG on the Cathay Pacific website.ย

This offer is capped at the first 12,500 bookings, so if you don’t see availability that’s probably why.ย

Conclusion

American Express has launched a new AMEX Offer which gives a S$100 statement credit for a minimum spend of S$500 with Cathay Pacific, valid for both commercial and award bookings.

Be sure to check your AMEX app and register your cards soon (if you have supplementary cards, check whether the offer is available there too), because there’s an overall cap of 5,000 cards.ย

How does this work for award tickets? Arenโ€™t Asian Miles award tickets processed in HKD by default? Workaround by changing the currency to SGD (and pay more)?
