Heymax offering 3 mpd on public transport and bike sharing

Link your Visa cards to Heymax and earn 3 Max Miles per S$1 on bus/MRT rides and bike-sharing, on top of regular rewards. 4x prizes of 25,000 Max Miles are also up for grabs.

Heymax has launched a new campaign that lets you earn 3 Max Miles per S$1 on bus and MRT rides, as well as bike-sharing services. All you need to do is register and pay for your daily commute with a Heymax-linked Visa card.

While each user is capped at earning 30 Max Miles per day, it just takes a second to register, and Max Miles are awarded on top of your credit card miles anyway. Moreover, registration also puts you in the running to win 4x prizes of 25,000 Max Miles each, enough for a return Economy Class ticket between Singapore and Japan through JAL MileageBank.

Max Miles are an extremely versatile currency, with more than two dozen airline and hotel transfer partners- Iโ€™m sure most people wonโ€™t mind another way of earning them.

Earn 3 mpd on bus/MRT rides and bike-sharing with Heymax

Earn 3 mpd on bus/MRT rides with Heymax and Visa

From 28 January 2025, Heymax will award 3 Max Miles per S$1 spent on bus/MRT rides and bike-sharing transactions, paid with a Heymax-linked Visa card.

  • Bus/MRT: SimplyGo rides paid at gantry
  • Bike-sharing: Anywheel, HelloRide

Registration is required, and can be done by tapping โ€˜Join the Campaignโ€™ on the Heymax app or website.

This offer will end on 28 February 2025, or when 1 million Max Miles have been awarded, whichever happens first. Subscribe to MileLion Roars and youโ€™ll receive an alert in advance of the campaign ending.

If you havenโ€™t already done so, youโ€™ll need to link your Visa card to Heymax, which can be done by tapping the Cards icon on the Heymax app. Follow the steps to link your card, and a S$1 test transaction will be charged (and later refunded).

Once linked, all you need to do is tap your physical Visa card or its digitalised Apple/Google Pay equivalent at the bus/MRT gantry to pay via SimplyGo. Youโ€™ll be able to track your spending and miles earned via the Heymax app or website.

โš ๏ธ Note for UOB cardholders

Because UOB is the payment acquirer for BUS/MRT payments, the transaction does not pass through Visaโ€™s network immediately and HeyMax does not get to know of your payment immediately. However, your payment will still get tracked up to a month later and the corresponding miles will be issued to your account.

-HeyMax FAQs

Each user is capped at earning 30 Max Miles per day, which works out to S$10 of spending. I donโ€™t know the rates for bike sharing, but I imagine S$10 is more than most people spend on bus/MRT rides each day anyway.

Iโ€™ve also confirmed with Heymax that there is no minimum fare required to earn Max Miles, and all amounts are rounded up to the nearest Max Mile (for example, a S$0.34 fare would become 1.02 Max Miles with a 3X multiplier, rounded up to 2 Max Miles).

Lucky draw: 4x prizes of 25,000 Max Miles

In addition to the 3 mpd offer, four lucky Heymax users will win 25,000 Max Miles each during this campaign.

To qualify for the draw, users must make at least one bus or MRT transaction with a linked card during the duration of the campaign, and have at least one card linked with Heymax at the time the campaign ends.

The higher a userโ€™s bus, MRT or bike sharing spending during the campaign, the higher their chances of winning.

Which card should you use for bus/MRT rides?

Not all banks offer points for SimplyGo, and this Heymax promotion is only for Visa cards.

This rules out Mastercard options like the UOB Ladyโ€™s Cards (4 mpd) or the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card (3 mpd), so apart from the StanChart Smart Card (up to 9.3 mpd- with plenty of caveats!), the rest of the options are general spending cards ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 mpd.

Thereโ€™s one important thing to consider here though: SimplyGo accumulates and charges fares to Visa cards on a daily basis.

Therefore, you need to be careful with minimum earning blocks.

  • DBS cards do not award points in S$5 blocks (contrary to popular belief), so as long as you spend at least S$1.54 (Altitude) or S$1.34 (Vantage) in a single transaction, you will earn some points
  • Maybank cards have a minimum earning block of S$5, so anything less than this wonโ€™t earn any points
  • StanChart cards offer points so long as you spend at least S$0.20 (Visa Infinite)
  • UOB cards have a minimum earning block of S$5, but UOB awards UNI$ based on the accumulated spend on SimplyGo transactions per calendar month. Therefore, unless your monthly spend on public transport is <S$5, youโ€™ll still earn some points

Keep in mind, the minimum earning blocks relate to the points you earn from your credit card. As mentioned in the previous section, Heymax will still award Max Miles for any bus/MRT fare, rounding up amounts to the nearest Max Mile.
