DragonPass tightens lounge and restaurant hopping restrictions

DragonPass members now need to wait two hours between lounge and restaurant visits, a reversal of the previous policy which saw them as two separate categories.

If your lounge membership includes unlimited visits (or even if it doesnโ€™t), you might enjoy hopping between multiple airport lounges and restaurants while waiting for your flight.

In this respect, DragonPass has always been at a disadvantage compared to Priority Pass, due to its โ€œfair useโ€ policy that restricts how frequently you can redeem visits.

Unfortunately, it appears this policy has recently been tightened even further.

DragonPass further tightens fair use policy

Redeemed a set meal? Youโ€™ll need to wait before you can visit a lounge

DragonPass has a โ€œfair use policyโ€ which sets the following restrictions on airport lounge and restaurant visits:

  • A maximum of one lounge visit every two hours
  • A maximum of one set meal every five hours (except for cards using the Mastercard Travel Pass, where the limit is two hours)

As recently as January 2025, the two entitlements did not interact, in the sense that you could redeem a set meal, finish it in 15 minutes, then head to a lounge and redeem a lounge visit.

However, it appears this has now changed. Based on reports from UOB Visa Infinite Metal Cardholders, redeeming a set meal now prevents you from visiting a lounge for a two-hour period (and vice versa).

A cardholder who reached out to DragonPass customer service got the following response:

To clarify, due to our fair use policy, there is always a waiting period of 3 hours after accessing a lounge before your card can be reused to access another lounge or restaurant. Similarly, if you redeem a set menu at a restaurant, there is also a waiting period of 3 hours before you can use your membership again to access a lounge.

This policy ensures that the benefits are fairly distributed and helps maintain availability for all users. I hope this clarifies everything, and I truly appreciate your understanding.

Now, the CSO mentions a three-hour waiting period, but based on anecdotal reports and the T&Cs of the Mastercard Travel Pass (point 6.6.4), Iโ€™m inclined to believe the timeout period is actually two hours (or five hours in the case of set meals, for non-MTP users).

Visit #1 Visit #2 Timeout
Lounge Lounge 2 hours
Lounge Set meal 2 hours
Set meal Lounge 2 hours
Set meal Set meal 2 hours (MTP)*
5 hours (all others)
*MTP= Mastercard Travel Pass

That said, if you have data points that suggest otherwise, please share them.

Priority Pass has no such restrictions

Priority Pass members currently do not face restrictions on lounge or restaurant hopping

While DragonPass members have to contend with timeouts between visits, itโ€™s worth noting that Priority Pass currently has no such restrictions. Priority Pass members are allowed to redeem back-to-back meals or lounge visits with no cooldown period in between.

There is no limit to the number of lounge visits you can use in a day or a year as long as you have a valid same-day boarding pass.

-Priority Pass

The only restriction is that you cannot visit the same restaurant or spa twice within a 24-hour period.

For example, if I redeem a meal at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Changi Terminal 1, I canโ€™t redeem another meal until 24 hours is up. However, I can visit another restaurant at Changi Airport and redeem another meal without having to wait.

Which credit cards offer DragonPass?

The following credit cards offer DragonPass memberships. Iโ€™ve also included the cooldown period between redemptions, for ease of reference.

Which app to use?

Itโ€™s important to remember that DragonPass has three different apps, and the correct app to use depends on which card you have.

You use the official DragonPass app only if:

  • You purchased a membership directly from DragonPass
  • Youโ€™re using the OCBC VOYAGE Card (which does not include set meals)

Otherwise, youโ€™ll be using either the Mastercard Travel Pass (for Mastercards) or Airport Companion (for Visas). Refer to the table below for more details.

Conclusion

DragonPass has quietly tightened its fair use policy to prevent members from redeeming a set meal immediately after a lounge visit, or vice versa. Youโ€™ll need to wait at least two hours between redemptions, unless you have an additional DragonPass or Priority Pass membership.

Fortunately, with so many credit cards offering complimentary lounge access, itโ€™s not that hard to have multiple lounge pass memberships. I personally think itโ€™s a good idea to have at least one DragonPass and one Priority Pass anyway, since their lounges, restaurants and spas do not overlap completely.

Consequences

Expect more of this โ€“ it is the consequence of the on-going abuse by the few who engage in activities such as lounge safariโ€™s before flight. This was never mean to be โ€“ go to 1 lounge before your flight, and do the right thing, and all these restrictions would not be necessary.

OhNo

Itโ€™s ironic because these lounge safaris, which miles bloggers like to crow about, are leading to these tighter measures. Which ultimately means the bloggers have less to write about.

Ways

Iโ€™m sure the bloggers will find ways to write their reviews anyway. If it was my job and making me money I surely would. Itโ€™s the regular folk who will lose the possibility to move to a less crowded lounge before their flight if the first option is poor.

Tiring

The idea of a lounge safari sounds tiring as usually I just want downtime in a quiet place before a flight, perhaps with a drink or a small snack. I can understand changing lounges if a lounge is particularly unpleasant. Otherwise moving between acceptable lounges seems excessive, unless I am a travel blogger. I think time is more precious than โ€˜$ valueโ€™. Anyway, none of the contract or airline lounges Iโ€™ve been to have impressed me as much as non-airport establishments. However I do value expedited clearance/ boarding and tarmac transfers (best to board last but fast). Although I donโ€™tโ€ฆ Read more ยป

Agreed

I agree with you. Instead of going to multiple lounges , I rather pick the best one to rest and relax. In fact, I would even be willing to deduct 2 or 3 โ€œvisitsโ€ for a superior lounge > jumping to 2 or 3 inferior ones
Sadly Changi contract lounges are really mediocre anyways

Sam

Restaurant visits will deduct the free visits unless you have unlimited ones

If i have both of dragonpass and priority pass can i redeem 2 set meals in the same restaurant at the same time?
