UberX cuts Singapore fares by 15%

If you haven’t used Uber before, the case for it just got 15% stronger. On 14 April, Uber announced that the fares for its cheapest UberX service would be reduced by 15%ย in Singapore.

Here’s how the old and new fare structure compares

Compare this to what Comfort Taxi charges…

The flagdown for Uber is cheaper, and the per kilometer cost also comes up slightly cheaper (although Uber charges for time AND distance). On the whole, I think you’d come out about equal if you used Uber or regular taxis, assuming no surge pricing. Also note that if you’re in an ulu area it may be worth it to get an Uber direct to your door rather than paying a booking fee for a regular taxi

I like Uber because

  • I earn 1 starpoint per US$1 spent on Uber (or 2/3 starpoints when you take Uber during a SPG hotel stay, depending on your tier)
  • It counts as online spending for the purpose of hitting your monthly S$2,000 cap for the DBS Woman’s World Card

If you’re thinking about using Uber, feel free to use my referral link, which gets you and I both $10 of free credit.

That said, I would also like to inform you that there is a superior code to mine for first time riders. Enterย SGUBERX15 on your first ride and get $20 off your first ride (valid till 30 April 16 only)

If you’re thinking of applying for the Standard Chartered Visa Infinite card, do note that they offer you a choice of 35,000 welcome miles or 25,000 welcome miles + S$100 Uber credit. You also getย 10% rebate on all your Uber spend, capped at S$400 per year.

The best thing about Uber for me is when I go to a country where English isn’t spoken. No drama- just enter the destination and let GPS do the rest.

Now let’s see what Grab does…

Prior to the 15% price cut from Uber, I have been taking a taxi to work from comfortdelgro on a daily basis. This is because, for short journeys around 5~10 minutes, I have found booking a comfortdelgro taxi with their app and using the MCPASS promocode to waive the booking fee to be cheaper overall. The above is only true in the morning. Afterwork, because of the CBD and other add on charges from comfortdelgro. Uber is cheaper. Now with the 15% discount, as you said, I think the cost will be on par…not sure who will be cheaper long… Read more »

Details for the booking fee wavier on comfortdelgro.

Also, follow comfortdelgro twitter and instagram, they’ve been giving away a lot of promo codes.

Other than that, I am not loyal to either party. I will just go with the cheapest option.
