The benefits of elite status vary significantly depending on chain, but one thing we can all be in agreement with is that having status is better than not having status. And if you envision some Hilton stays coming up in the future but don’t have status with them yet, you might be interested in this.
If you already have elite status with another hotel loyalty program, Hilton will match it for 90 days instantly.
You have the opportunity to extend that status to March 2019 by meeting the following stay requirements during your 90 day period:
- Gold: 4 stays in 90 days
- Diamond: 8 stays in 90 days
The process is simple. Go to this site, enter your details and upload:
- Proof of status (membership card photo or screenshot of current account status)
- Proof of stay (screenshot of a fulfilled reservation or hotel receipt) within the last 12 months
Presumably the requirement for (2) is to prevent people who have got free status from other credit cards from just jumping straight to Hilton. That means if you have the complimentary Millennium Hotels status from the Krisflyer Ascend, you’re going to need to show that you’ve stayed at their properties at least once in the last 12 months.
What status will they match? The small print at the bottom says Starwood Preferred Guest, Marriott Rewards, IHG Rewards Club, Hyatt Gold Passport, Choice Privileges, or other hotel loyalty program. Emphasis on “other hotel loyalty program”- methinks they’re not going to be too fussy about where your status is from, if the goal of this is a pure sign up drive.
Presumably SPG Platinum/Marriott Platinum/IHG Platinum & Spire/Hyatt Diamond (I don’t care what stupid name they’ve given it, it’ll always be Hyatt Diamond to me) would be matched to Hilton Diamond, with the tier below that matched to Gold.
Louis has written his thoughts about Hilton Gold being the best mid-tier hotel status out there, and I’m inclined to agree with him. Hilton Diamond probably matters a bit more at aspirational properties where there is a limited redemption pool/possibility of nicer perks, such as the Conrad Koh Samui (read about my experience as a Diamond member here)
There is no mention about when this offer is valid till, but if you already have stays planned I’d act sooner rather than later.
