Hyatt’s Members-only refundable rates: sometimes lower than prepaid

Worth a try if you're booking with Hyatt anyway.

In recent times, the major chain hotels have been introducing members-only rates where if you’re a member of their loyalty program, you’ll be entitled to receive an additional discount on the lowest available rate. For instance, Starwood Preferred Guest has it’s “Member Exclusive” rate where you’ll receive an additional 5% on the pre-paid or flexible rate of the hotel. Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott all have a similar concept as well.

SPG’s member exclusive rate

While browsing through the internet scouring for hotels for my upcoming trip, I came across something rather peculiar with these member only rates. Hyatt seems to sometimes offer a members-only rate which is lower than their advanced purchase rate and is also a refundable one at certain hotels.

Looking at the Hyatt Place Bangkok, it currently offers a Members-only rate at THB2,632 prior to taxes. Note in the rate terms, it is refundable and this is their lowest available rate.

If I maneuver over to the Advance Purchase tab, I’m greeted with a rate which informs me that it’s a non-refundable one. Not to mention the final price is THB100 more.

This occurrence doesn’t happen all the time with other properties though. The Grand Hyatt Singapore and the Hyatt Regency London both offers a more competitive advanced purchase rate compared to the members-only rate. However, I found that the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is having a lower Members-only rate compared to their Advanced Purchase rates.

Concluding thoughts

It’s interesting to see that Hyatt is able to offer these Member-only rates which are flexible at a lower cost than Advance Purchase rates at certain hotels. If you’re able to take advantage of such rates with Hyatt then it can represent quite good value.
