Full details: How to redeem SingapoRediscovers vouchers, child subsidies, and other FAQs

Learn the full details of how SingapoRediscovers vouchers will work once they go live on 1 December 2020.

The STB has released more information on the highly-anticipated SingapoRediscovers Vouchers, S$100 of which will be issued to every adult Singaporean (18 and above as of 2020) from 1 December 2020.

These are part of a S$320 million initiative to encourage Singaporeans to spend domestically and explore local culture, heritage, nature, art and architecture.

We now have answers to more questions, such as the exact redemption process, voucher pooling, refunds and subsidized tickets for children.

How do you redeem SingapoRediscovers vouchers?

While there are currently 39 attractions, 178 hotels, and 79 tour operators approved to accept SingapoRediscovers vouchers, you can only redeem them via the following authorised booking partners:

  • Changi Recommends
  • GlobalTix
  • Klook
  • Traveloka
  • Trip.com

In other words, you could book a Capella Hotel staycation via Klook or Trip.com, but not via the hotel’s official website.

To redeem your SingapoRediscovers vouchers, fill your basket and head to checkout as per normal. You’ll see an option to redeem your vouchers on the payment screen.

Click on the button and you’ll be redirected to the SingapoRediscovers vouchers home page. Click on “Redeem Vouchers” on the top right.

Login with your SingPass details.

Select the quantum of vouchers you’d like to redeem (blocks of S$10).

A promo code will be generated. Copy and paste this promo code on the checkout page, and you’re done. This promo code is valid for 10 minutes; if you don’t use it after that time, the voucher value will be automatically recredited to your account.

All activities/stays booked with SingapoRediscovers vouchers must be consumed by 30 June 2021.

How do I purchase subsidized tickets for children?

Every Singapore Citizen aged 18 and above in 2020 is entitled to purchase up to six subsidised child/youth tickets, for any family member who is under the age of 18.

To do this, add the child/youth tickets to your cart and follow the same steps as if you were redeeming SingapoRediscovers vouchers. Once you get past the SingPass login screen, click on the “Have a family member below 18? Activate your child/youth subsidies here” link.

You’ll make a declaration of your relationship with the child/youth (with legal ramifications if you lie), and provide his/her IC number.

After this, you’ll redeem your SingapoRediscovers vouchers for yourself, generate the promo code and go back to the checkout screen. Both the S$10 child subsidy plus your own discount will automatically reflect once the code is entered.

What this implies is:

  • You can’t just purchase a single child ticket by itself; you will need to buy an adult ticket at the same time
  • Once you’ve used up all your SingapoRediscovers vouchers, you will not be able to buy any subsidised child/youth tickets

Are SingapoRediscovers vouchers refundable?

No. Once you’ve spent a voucher, its value cannot be credited back to your account. At most, you might be able to change the date or product, depending on the terms and conditions of the booking partner.

Trip.com has told me that all hotel stays booked with SingapoRediscovers vouchers will be non-refundable and non-changeable, so that’s something to keep in mind. Klook says that refunds will not be allowed, but date changes may be possible depending on the merchant.

Can SingapoRediscovers vouchers be pooled with other people?

Bad news for those who were hoping to pool vouchers for a couple/family staycation- you won’t be able to do so.

5. Can I combine my SingapoRediscovers Vouchers with others to make a purchase?

The SingapoRediscovers Vouchers cannot be stacked or combined with the SingapoRediscovers Vouchers of another individual to buy the same product.

In other words: one booking, one person’s vouchers.

Can I use my SingapoRediscovers vouchers to buy a ticket for someone else?

Provided the terms and conditions of the ticket/product you’re booking allow for transfers, you’re perfectly free to do so.

This probably applies more to tours or attraction tickets than hotels.

What can I not buy with SingapoRediscovers vouchers?

SingapoRediscovers vouchers cannot be used to pay for the following:

  • Memberships, annual or season passes to attractions
  • Work from hotel or day-cation bookings
  • Event bookings at hotels like weddings or conferences
  • Membership or loyalty points
  • Recurring class/workshop packages

This list is non-exhaustive and may be updated from time to time by the STB. While vouchers may be purchased, they must be consumed within the 1 December 2020 to 30 June 2021 period.

Conclusion

Just over one week to go before those SingapoRediscovers vouchers get distributed, and we’re starting to see some deals come in. Trip.com has already sent out some sneak previews for hotels (S$299++ for a night at the Mandarin Oriental with S$100 F&B credit looks to be a winner), and I fully expect we’ll see more in the days to come.

I assume hotels booked through these OTAs will be ineligible for member benefits and night credits?
