Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort reopening for staycations on 10 December

Another kid-friendly resort reopens its doors next week, but expect to pay steep prices at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa.

Sentosa has no shortage of staycation-approved hotels, but from 10 December there’ll be another option to choose from as the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort reopens its doors.

The hotel has completed a very long SHN stint, and you might remember reading about it in March when a violinist played a stirring rendition of Home from her balcony. Ah, for the days when SHN facilities made the news for this sort of thing, and not that

Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa reopening specials

If you’re hoping for some screaming reopening good deals, you may be disappointed. Rates on opening night start from a hefty S$665++ (S$783 nett) with breakfast, which means you might actually be better off redeeming some Golden Circle Award points instead.

Award nights at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa cost 5,000 points, and if you bought points with the current 50% bonus you’d be paying ~S$577 (no breakfast, though, unless you’re a Jade or higher).

The high rates are in no small part because the hotel is reopening amidst the peak December season. If you can wait till January, mid-week rates drop to a more sane S$425++ (S$500 nett) with breakfast, and if you can wait till May, the entry-level Superior Hill View Rooms return at S$400++ (S$471 nett) (the entire category is blocked off at the moment).

There are staycation packages, but none of them are what you might call cheap. The Rasa Escape package includes S$100 of F&B credit per daybut will start at S$653 nett.

There’s also a Rasa Girlfriends’ Getaway (nothing stopping couples from booking it though) starting from S$694 nett.

Rates can come down if you’re willing to commit to a longer stay, but the duration they have in mind seems more SHN-length than staycation.

If its just the two of you, I’d argue the Capella and Barracks Hotel Sentosa are offering superior deals with way nicer rooms. Don’t forget, you can spend your S$100 SingapoRediscovers vouchers at either of these properties too.

What’s the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa stay experience like?

Deluxe Sea View Room
Deluxe Sea View Room

The Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa has a total of 454 rooms and suites, split into the following categories.

Room Type Number of Rooms Size
Superior Hill View 139 31 sqm
Deluxe Sea View 123 32 sqm
Panoramic Sea View 64 32 sqm
Deluxe Pool View 78 36 sqm
Deluxe Garden 27 38 sqm
Terrace Pool View 4 54 sqm
Terrace Sea View 6 54 sqm
Island Suite 2 64 sqm
Deluxe Sea View Suite 6 64 sqm
Panorama Suite 4 76 sqm
Sentosa Suite 1 150 sqm

As mentioned earlier, the Superior Hill View category is blocked off until 1 May 2021, leaving the Deluxe Sea View room as the base room for the time being.

The hotel was last renovated in 2011, so don’t expect the most cutting-edge design or technology when it comes to rooms (IDD calling and iPod docks are proudly mentioned as special amenities, giving you an idea of the hotel’s vintage).

Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Kids Pool
Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Kids’ Pool

The real ace in the hole for the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa are its child-friendly facilities- the Cool Zone kid’s club is the largest of its kind in Singapore, running all-day activities for children. Elsewhere, there’s a children’s pool with waterslides, an outdoor playground and a ton of water activities.

Guests can dine at six different dining concepts, ranging from Northern Italian cuisine at Trapizza to a 1960s Chinese noodle house at 8 Noodles. Buying points during the current Golden Circle sale and redeeming them for F&B credit can yield 30% savings, assuming you hold Jade status or higher.

A few reviews from before the circuit breaker can be found below (the number of mommy blogs gives you an idea of the hotel’s primary target market):

Conclusion

The reopening of the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa gives Golden Circle loyalists an additional hotel to choose from, but unless you’re staying with kids, I can think of many better options on Sentosa.

The hotel is currently not on the list of approved merchants for SingapoRediscovers vouchers, but I expect that to change shortly after it reopens.

It definitely adds more room supply to the island of Sentosa, but at this price? Many had already booked their getaway for Christmas & New Year.

Hi, does it mean that the hotel is no longer housing SHN guests?

ShangriLaMan

From the T&C

  1. We wish to inform you that during this period we have some guests on stay-home-notice residing in the hotel. For your peace of mind, we have a comprehensive safe management system in place, prepared in close consultation and approved by the Singapore authorities.

Aaron and other Milelioners, what’s better for booking Shangi-la rooms using SQ miles…converting them to GC points for a redemption or using KF Vrooms?

DR DR

which is less horrible? i’m not looking to spend any cash.

DR DR

ok thanks for the pointer on the dynamic pricing
