Back in August 2022, UOB added utilities to its list of rewards exclusions (the invite-only UOB Reserve Card escaped the noose initially, but that exception ended in October 2024), which wasn’t that big a surprise, given the market trend.ย
But there’s now a limited-time opportunity to earn some miles or cashback on your SP Utilities bill for the next few months till the end of 2024.
UOB cards x SP Utilities offer
From 14 October to 31 December 2024, the first 3,500 UOB Visa or Mastercard cardholders ย per month to make a recurring SP Utilities bill payment will receive either 3 mpd, or 5% cashback.
Registration is required, and can be done by sending the following SMS to 77862.

For avoidance of doubt, you can only register for either the 3 mpd or 5% cashback; you can’t enjoy both at the same time.
You’ll then need to add your registered UOB card as the recurring payment method on your SP Utilities app.ย Do note that this offer is only valid for customers who have not set up a recurring bill payment with any UOB card on the SP app for the past six months.ย
The maximum miles or cashback you can earn is capped at the first S$150 of spending per calendar month, i.e. 450 miles or S$7.50.
When will the reward be credited?
Miles or cashback earned via this promotion will be credited by 28 February 2025.

What other cards can you use for utilities?
Not many.ย
Utilities is one of those categories that has been mercilessly cracked down on by banks, and this year we saw even more nerfs withย Standard Chartered and the UOB Reserve Card adding it to the exclusion list.
This leaves Maybank as the only bank still offering rewards for this category, with cardholders earning anywhere from 0.24 to 2 mpd.

Conclusion
From now till 31 December 2024, UOB cardholders can register to earn 3 mpd or 5% cashback on SP Utilities recurring bill payments, capped at 450 miles or S$7.50 per month.
Seeing as how it’s practically impossible to earn miles for free on this category (unless you have a Maybank card), you might as well register. There is an eligibility cap of 3,500 customers per month, so hopefully your billing cycle comes early in the month!
