Well this might be a pleasant turn of events.
In December 2024, COMO added new restrictions to the Comoclub birthday treats programme, limiting perks to members who qualified via spending, as opposed to being fast-tracked via American Express.
American Express also updated its benefits page to add the following wording:
Kindly note that birthday treats listed on Comoclub’s website are subject to earned tier qualifications only, and not applicable for accounts upgraded through the complimentary Comoclub C5 membership.

Given that birthday treats at the C5 level could be worth up to S$780 per card account, this looked like a big nerf. However, there’s now some potential good newsโ at least for those who got their foot in the door before 2025.ย
Legacy members still eligible for Comoclub birthday treats
AMEX Platinum Charge, Reserve and Credit Card members who were fast-tracked to Comoclub elite status in 2024 or earlier, and whose birthday month falls in January, have already reported receiving their birthday treats.
This suggests that Como is only applying the new restrictions to members who are fast-tracked from 1 January 2025 onwards, and indeed, an email from customer service appears to confirm this.

For applications submitted on or after 1 January 2025, birthday perks will no longer be offered as part of the AMEX Status Match program benefits. Why I’m a bit hesitant to pop the champagne just yet is the possibility of a process lag, in the sense that the policy has changed, but the systems haven’t been updated to reflect that.
And while the email from customer service provides some comfort, I’m concerned about the line which says “birthday perks will continue to be issued according to the program’s guidelines.” After all, those same guidelines now say that birthday treats are only for “earned tier qualifications”. I probably sound overly paranoid, but if you’ve done this for as long as I have you would be too!
The MileLioness’ birthday falls in late January, so I should be able to verify this information firsthand in a few weeks’ time, but all things considered, I’d feel a lot more reassured if come February legacy members are still getting their birthday perks.
In any case, if true, the cutoff will be determined by when your Comoclub membership was fast-track, not when you applied for your AMEX Platinum card. If you got your card last year but hadn’t gotten around to applying for Comoclub status yet, sorry, you’ve missed the boat.
How do Comoclub birthday treats work?
As a reminder, AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive a fast-track to Comoclub C5 status, while AMEX Platinum Reserve and Credit Card cardholders receive a fast-track to Comoclub C4 status.
Both principal and supplementary cardholders are eligible for this benefit.

Birthday treats are valued at S$260 per member for C5, and S$130 per member for C4. Since American Express waives the annual fee for up to two supplementary cardholders,ย paying a single annual fee effectively nets you S$390 (C4) or S$780 (C5) of value from the birthday treats aloneย (actually slightly more, thanks to the stackable 10-15% discount at Club21, Kids21 and Dover Street Market).

Comoclub members will receive their birthday vouchers via the Comoclub app, 10 days before their actual birthday.ย Vouchers are valid for two months from the date of issuance, and do not require any minimum spend.
Comoclub has a soft landing policy, so if you fail to requalify for your current tier (as I imagine many AMEX cardholders would), you drop to the next lowest tier. That means an AMEX Platinum Charge cardmember would go from C5 to C4, enjoying S$390 worth of birthday perks in the second yearโ still none too shabby!
Conclusion
While Comoclub has tightened the T&Cs regarding birthday treats, American Express cardholders who were fast-tracked before 1 January 2025ย have reported receiving their January birthday treats nonetheless.
I’d wait for more data points before sounding the all clear (and if you’re a January baby who got their birthday treats, please sound off in the comments), but there’s reason to be hopeful. Even if COMO merchants aren’t places you’d usually patronise, free is always good.
