When do credit card bonus points post?

Many credit cards offer bonus points for spending in foreign currency, or on certain categories, or based on your relationship with the bank.

However, the way these points are credited is not always straightforward. Some cards award both base and bonus points upfront, others give you the base upfront but make you wait for the bonus, and still others do a mix of the two.

This can lead to a lot of unnecessary panic and worry when cardholders think they haven’t received the right number of points!

In this post, I’ll explain how bonus points are credited for some popular miles and points cards, and when you can expect to receive them.

Citi Rewards Card

The Citi Rewards Card earns 4 mpd on online transactions (except travel and mobile wallet), as well as selected shopping MCCs.

Both base and bonus points are credited at the time the transaction posts.

UOB Preferred Platinum Visa

The UOB Preferred Platinum Visa earns 4 mpd on mobile contactless payments, as well as online shopping and entertainment. 

Both base and bonus points are credited at the time the transaction posts.

For example, if I were to use my UOB Preferred Platinum Visa to pay in-store via mobile contactless, I would see two sets of points credited on the same day: one for the base 1X (0.4 mpd), and one for the bonus 9X (3.6 mpd).

DBS Woman’s World Card

The DBS Woman’s World Card earns 10X DBS points per S$1 (4 mpd) on online transactions:

1. 1X DBS point (0.4 mpd) is credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 9X DBS points (3.6 mpd) are credited by the end of the following calendar month (usually the 16th)

However, the DBS Woman’s World also earns 3X DBS points per S$1 (1.2 mpd) on FCY transactions. In the case that your transaction is both online, and in FCY, then:

1. 3X DBS points (1.2 mpd) are credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 7X DBS points (2.8 mpd) are credited by the end of the following calendar month (usually the 16th)

While DBS has been very consistent with crediting (2) on the 16th of the following month, it’s not stated in black and white so it could always change in the future. 

DBS yuu Card

The DBS yuu Card earns 36X yuu points per S$1 (10 mpd) on transactions at yuu merchants:

• 10 yuu points (2.78 mpd) is credited when the transaction posts
• 26 yuu points (7.22 mpd) is credited by the end of the following calendar month

HSBC Revolution Card

The HSBC Revolution Card earns 10X HSBC points per S$1 (4 mpd) on online transactions at selected MCCs.

1. 1X HSBC point (0.4 mpd) is credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 9X HSBC points (3.6 mpd) are credited by the end of the following calendar month

HSBC does not have a fixed date for crediting (2). Based on data points from 2024, the crediting has been done anywhere between the 9th to the 19th.

Maybank Horizon Visa Signature

The Maybank Horizon Visa Signature earns 7X TREATS points per S$1 (2.8 mpd) on FCY spend and air tickets. 

1. 3X TREATS points (1.2 mpd) are credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 4X TREATS points (1.6 mpd) are credited by the 8th day of the following calendar month, provided a minimum spend of S$800 was made in the current calendar month

OCBC Rewards Card

The OCBC Rewards Card earns 10X OCBC$ per S$1 (4 mpd) on online and offline shopping at selected MCCs and merchants.

1. 1X OCBC$ (0.4 mpd) is credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 9X OCBC$ (3.6 mpd) is credited by the end of the following calendar month

OCBC does not have a fixed date for crediting (2). Based on data points from 2024, the crediting has been done between the 15th to the 21st.

StanChart Beyond Card

The StanChart Beyond Card usually earns:

• 3.75X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (1.5 mpd) on local spend
• 7.5X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (3 mpd) on FCY spend

These points are credited when the transaction posts.

Priority Banking (PB) customers will earn an extra:

• 1.25X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (0.5 mpd) on local spend
• 1.25X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (0.5 mpd) on FCY spend

Priority Private (PP) customers will earn an extra:

• 1.25X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (0.5 mpd) on local spend
• 2.5X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (1 mpd) on FCY spend
• 12.5X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (1 mpd) on FCY dining spend

The extra points for PB and PP customers will be credited at the start of the next statement month.

StanChart Journey Card

The StanChart Journey Card earns 7.5X 360° Rewards Points per S$1 (3 mpd) for online dining, transport and cruise bookings made in SGD. 

1. 3.75X 360° Rewards Points (1.5 mpd) is credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 3.75X 360° Rewards Points (1.5 mpd) is credited at the start of the following statement month

StanChart Smart Card

The StanChart Smart Card earns up to 32X 360° Rewards Points at bonus-eligible merchants, broken down into:

• the regular base rate of 1.6 points per S$1 (0.46 mpd), and
• a bonus of 11.2-30.4 points per S$1 (3.25-8.82 mpd), depending on monthly spend

There are three different bonus tiers, based on total spend within a statement month.

When spending on bonus categories:

• Cardholders with a minimum spend of less than S$800 per statement month will earn 4% cashback or 3.71 mpd until 31 March 2025, after which the earn rate drops to 0.5% cashback or 0.46 mpd
• Cardholders who spend at least S$800 but less than S$1,500 per statement month will earn 8% cashback or 7.42 mpd
• Cardholders who spend at least S$1,500 per statement month will earn 10% cashback or 9.28 mpd

What’s unusual about the Smart Card is that base and bonus points are delayed. You will receive them at the start of the following statement month.

UOB Lady’s Cards

The UOB Lady’s Cards earn 10X UNI$ per S$1 (4 mpd) on a choice of one (Lady’s Card) or two (Lady’s Solitaire Card) bonus categories. 

1. 1X UNI$ per S$1 (0.4 mpd) is credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 9X UNI$ per S$1 (3.6 mpd) is credited on the 1st day of the following calendar month

You can see the bonus points credited on the 1st day of the following month.

If you also have a UOB Lady’s Savings Account, you can earn an extra 5-15X UNI$ per S$1 (2-6 mpd). This will be credited on the 27th of the following calendar month as one (Lady’s Card) or two (Lady’s Solitaire Card) entries. 

UOB Visa Signature

The UOB Visa Signature Card earns 10X UNI$ per S$1 (4 mpd) on foreign currency, contactless and petrol spend. 

1. 1X UNI$ (0.4 mpd) is credited at the time the transaction posts
2. 9X UNI$ (3.6 mpd) is credited at the start of the following statement month, subject to meeting a minimum spend of S$1,000 in the current statement month, in either SGD (for contactless and petrol) or FCY (for FCY spend)

Since everyone’s statement period differs, the date where the 9X UNI$ (3.6 mpd) is credited will differ too. In my case, it just so happens to be the 1st of the month.

Some base and bonus points post together

KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card

The KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card earns 3 mpd on:

1. Singapore Airlines, Scoot, KrisShop and Kris+ transactions
2. Dining, food delivery, online shopping, online travel, and transport

For (1), the entire 3 mpd will be credited to your KrisFlyer account the following calendar month when the monthly “sweep” takes place.

For (2), 1.2 mpd will be credited to your KrisFlyer account the following calendar month when the monthly “sweep” takes place. The remaining 1.8 mpd will be credited two months after the end of the membership year, assuming you spend at least S$800 on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, KrisShop during that membership year. 

Maybank World Mastercard

The Maybank World Mastercard earns 10X TREATS points per S$1 (4 mpd) on local petrol, and specialised retail/dining merchants like Imperial Treasure, Les Amis Group and Valiram Group. 

The entire amount will be credited when the transaction posts.

The Maybank World Mastercard also earns 7/8X TREATS points per S$1 (2.8/3.2 mpd) on foreign currency spending:

• 1X TREATS points (0.4 mpd) are credited at the time the transaction posts
• 6X TREATS points (2.4 mpd) are credited by the 8th day of the following calendar month, provided a minimum spend of S$800 was made in the current calendar month
• 7X TREATS points (2.8 mpd) are credited by the 8th day of the following calendar month, provided a minimum spend of S$4,000 was made in the current calendar month

Conclusion

With all the different ways that banks award bonus points, it’s quite easy to think some are missing when in fact they’re just “in transit”! 

So before you pick up the phone, take a moment to consult the T&Cs (and hopefully this article) to see whether your points are really overdue.
