If youโve visited the Singapore Airlines lounges in both Changi Terminals 2 and 3, itโs hard not to feel that the T2 lounges are the lesser siblings. And understandably so โ they were last renovated over a decade ago and simply canโt compare to the sleek, modern facilities in T3.
But with Terminal 5 not expected to come online until the mid-2030s, Singapore Airlines canโt possibly maintain the status quo. After a minor refurbishment last year, the airline has now announced a major overhaul that will bring the T2 lounges up to par with those in T3 by mid-2027.
โThis significant investment underscores Singapore Airlinesโ unwavering commitment to elevating the end-to-end travel experience for our customers. Building on the success of our Terminal 3 lounges, we are extending our signature hospitality and thoughtfully curated offerings to Terminal 2.
This upgrade reaffirms our continued dedication to providing a seamless, world-class experience that meets the high expectations of our discerning customers.โ

Singapore Airlines announces Terminal 2 renovation plans

Singapore Airlines has announced a S$45 million renovation plan for its SilverKris and KrisFlyer Gold Lounges at Changi Terminal 2, which will take place over the next two years.
Renovations are expected to commence today, 15 April 2025, with completion scheduled for the middle of 2027.
The revamped lounges will boast 50% more space and seating capacity, and feature upgraded facilities, signature elements from SIAโs flagship lounges at Changi Airport Terminal 3, and an enhanced variety of food and beverage options.
-Singapore Airlines
To minimise disruptions to customers, the renovation will be carried out in phases, with the First Class Lounge the first to go under the knife, followed by the Business Class and KrisFlyer Gold Lounges respectively.
Lounge | Work Starts | Completion |
SKL First Class | 15 Apr 2025 | Q4 2025 |
SKL Business Class | Q4 2025 | TBD |
KrisFlyer Gold | H1 2026 | Mid-2027 |
SilverKris First Class Lounge

The SilverKris First Class Lounge will be relocated to a new space opposite the existing lounge, and feature increased seating capacity, higher ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows.
The current bar will also undergo renovation to offer a โpremium experienceโ, and continue to offer barista services in the morning. Customers can look forward to an expanded range of live cooking stations and self-service buffet, mirroring the offerings available at the T3 lounge.
These are welcome changes, especially since the current facility doesnโt make very good use of all the natural light it gets. It feels dark and cramped, and due to space constraints, the number of items offered by the live cooking stations is just a fraction of that in T3.

I would also hope that the restrooms and showers will be upgraded too, as the current setup places the showers inside the restrooms, rather than as stand-alone suites.
SilverKris Business Class Lounge

The SilverKris Business Class Lounge will expand its capacity by 30% by taking over the footprint of the existing First Class Lounge. It will also add some commonly-requested features such as a rest area with recliners, more seating options (including wingback chairs and sofa seats), and productivity pods.
The self-service buffet will also be expanded, and a new full-service bar will offer barista-made coffee in the morning, as well as signature cocktails in the evening.
This should address some of the biggest weaknesses of the current Business Class Lounge, which doesnโt have much in the way of seating variety. Itโs basically a sea of similar-looking armchairs, and those who want to enjoy a drink, take a nap or get serious work done are better off heading to T3.

Like the First Class lounge, my hope is that the restrooms and showers are similarly upgraded.
KrisFlyer Gold Lounge

The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge will double its current capacity and add more seating options, including armchairs for lounging, workstations, and dining seats.
But perhaps the biggest news of all is that the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge will finally have its own restrooms and shower suites. At the moment, customers who want to use the toilet have to leave the lounge, and those who want to shower have to head over to T3.
The current KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is arguably the weakest in the entire Singapore Airlines network, so itโs a big relief that its shortcomings are finally being addressed.

Itโs quite incredible that we had to wait so long for this, but I suppose better late than never!
Conclusion
Singapore Airlines has embarked on a much-needed overhaul of its Terminal 2 lounges, which it expects to complete by mid-2027. The First Class Lounge will kick-start the project today, followed by the Business Class and KrisFlyer Gold Lounges in time to come.
This should help the airline better balance demand between T2 and T3, while awaiting the arrival of T5 in the next decade.
What do you make of the renovation plans?
If anything, the T3 SilverKris lounge is also due a major reno. It canโt hold a candle to Qantas First or Qatar Premium, comically bad and always overcrowded โ and this is their home turf!
frankly, i dont think the overcrowding issues can be solved till t5. itโs just that thereโs simply no more space in t3 to expand. by expanding in t2, i think the idea is to offload some demand there. hardly ideal, but itโs going to be this way for the next decade.
The overcrowding has been going on for a long time.
Perhaps an article investigating why? Was it the growth of J capacity, cuts in F capacity, guesting patterns changing, utilization patterns changing?
And was it predictable in the early 2000s where T3 lounge capacity was being planned?
The crowding in T3 is absolutely horrendous for the red eye flights, the lounge is an absolute disgrace and much worse that an average priority pass lounge in the same terminal. Simply unacceptable for a business class product, even the fast food outlets /common area facilities are more peaceful than the silverkris lounge.
Still a windowless KF Gold lounge ๐
yeah but interior design can do wonders. the SKL F in t3 has no windows but it still feels warm and inviting
fantastic news, also that the start by the First Class lounge. As Solitaire, the experience from check-in to lounge in T3 is miles ahead of the T2 experience, so much that I always -without fault- go to the T3 lounge, which is I guess not the way SQ intended the system to be working. What I find further interesting is if they take queues from the newly renovated ICN and PER lounges, which have this great barista/bar area. I admit not using both, but these โislandsโ, as depicted in the article as well for T2, are much more pleasant thatโฆ Read more ยป
I imagine the lounges will not get any additional floor area.
So, what was sacrificed to increase seating capacity?
