How to get the most out of your GrabCoins

Sitting on a stash of GrabCoins? Here's how you can redeem them for the most value.

The following is a sponsored post by Grab Singapore. Opinions remain those of The MileLion.

GrabCoins replaced GrabRewards last year, offering users a new way to earn and save on their daily Grab transactions.

One key advantage over the previous programme is that GrabCoins can be earned regardless of payment method. This effectively means you can double dip on GrabCoins and miles or cashback from your credit card.

Just like any rewards currency, you should be aiming to earn and burn your GrabCoins on a regular basis. Remember: all GrabCoins earned from 2026 onwards will expire after six months. Hoard them too long, and they may go to waste!

If you’ve built up a stash of GrabCoins and aren’t sure how to use them, here’s how to maximise their value.

What can you redeem with GrabCoins?

There are two ways of redeeming GrabCoins — but one can potentially offer much better value than the other.

Pay for Grab transactions

You can use GrabCoins to instantly offset GrabFood, GrabMart and GrabCar rides at a rate of 500 GrabCoins = S$1.

Whenever you’re booking an eligible service, you’ll see the option to pay with GrabCoins, provided you have a minimum of 50 GrabCoins (S$0.10).

Rewards catalogue

Paying with GrabCoins is simple and straightforward, but here’s my advice: you can often get more value per GrabCoin from the redemption catalogue.

To browse this, tap on the GrabCoins icon on the top right of the home screen, then on Catalogue.

This can be especially lucrative during the monthly GrabCoins Flash Sale, which takes place on the 15th to 21st of each month. These sales offer an excellent opportunity to get outsized value from your GrabCoins.

For example, during the recent July Flash Sale, members could get more than double the usual value on their GrabCoins with the following rewards:

  • S$10 off Grab Transport for 5,000 coins 2,000 coins (0.5 cents per GrabCoin)
  • S$15 off GrabFood for 7,500 coins 3,750 coins (0.4 cents per GrabCoin)
  • S$20 off Grab Premium for 10,000 coins 4,000 coins (0.5 cents per GrabCoin)

The July catalogue also featured vouchers across F&B, travel, entertainment, retail and shopping. Highlights include deals on Frasers Experience gift cards, CapitaSTAR STAR$, and vouchers from Amazon, Sheng Siong, Cold Storage, Guardian, and more.

Do note that reward availability depends on how many GrabCoins you have available.

Alternatively, if you want to use your GrabCoins for travel, they can be redeemed for KrisFlyer miles at a rate of 650 GrabCoins = 50 KrisFlyer miles. However, given the baseline value of 100 GrabCoins= S$1, the effective rate you’re “paying” is 2.6 cents per mile. Therefore, I would prefer to save GrabCoins for vouchers rather than converting them to miles.

Conclusion

GrabCoins are simple enough to earn, but given that they expire after six months, you’ll want to be actively redeeming them.

While the option to offset Grab rides and orders provides a convenient baseline of S$1 per 500 GrabCoins, the real sweet spot may lie in the rewards catalogue — especially during the monthly Flash Sales, where values can easily double.

Be sure to look out for the next GrabCoins Flash Sale on the 15th of the month, where you can stretch your stash even further!
