A Milelion Giveaway to Mark a Special Milestone (updated with the winner!)

Congratulations.

28 April Update: So the random number generator has done its thing (after removing duplicate entries, naughty naughty), and congratulations to Anne Cheung, the winner! I’ll be reaching out to you via email to get in touch.

Thank you to everyone for taking part and top marks for all the haikus. There will be more giveaways soon.

It would be amazing to meet up with the community, so stay tuned for June/July when we might be arranging a little do…

Amidst all the chaos with the site crash on Monday, I failed to notice that The Milelion had passed a little milestone, just a few days before its 2nd birthday.

All-time views on the site have passed the 1 million mark. To date, The Milelion has served 266,848 unique visitors over 595,885 sessions reading 1,262,817 pages. That’s none too shabby, considering that there are 462 articles in total published to date (including this one)

I wish I had some spectacular giveaway to mark this event with, but all I have is a brand new set of EVA Air Rimowa amenities kit and PJs, from my recent Miami No Vice trip.

I’m giving these away to a reader, so leave a comment below if you want to take part (you’ll presumably need to include your email address as well so I can contact you). Write anything- say hi, write a haiku, deliver social commentary on postmodern feminist theory. Doesn’t matter. The winner will be chosen randomly on Friday 28th April at 12pm Singapore time

Local postage will be covered free of cost, although meet ups are always welcome. For an additional S$50, I will roll around in the PJs after working out. For an additional S$100, I won’t.

Thank you for supporting The Milelion, and here’s to more years ahead!

  10. Congrats on the milestone Aaron (my favorite miles blogger)! Thanks for always making me laugh with your posts and giving us useful tips on how to earn miles towards that long elusive first class seat redemption 😉

  11. I have learnt so much from the site, practical and actionable. I can’t imagine how/why other sites can recommend some cards (anything with KF on it for example)!

  12. Milelion has travelled far, providing us with information readily for grabs. Having started the miles journey since a year and a half back, it has provided tons of insights, knowhow on maximising the earnings and best approach for different category.
    Let’s keep the miles going!
    Kudos and out.

  13. Keep up the good work! It’s a long and hard battle to make people see the light but what you’re doing is worth it and very much appreciated by all your readers (and their indirectly enlightened friends and family) 🙂

  14. Hello Aaron, congratulations on passing 1 million mark. And choose me, because I have been shameless promoting your blog to all my friends since the very beginning….! I’m looking forward to more insightful pieces, and thanks for taking the time to put this together.

  15. I stumbled upon your blog about a year ago and was introduced to the wonderful world of miles and points. From a ‘I only need one card’ mantra I was converted to miles and points game enthusiast. Love the honest, humorous and generous sharing of your infectious passion for, what is to me the beautiful game!

  16. This is for MILELION

My miles collection started a bit late.
    I’m glad I found you,
Laughed at the jokes that you make.
Entertained and educated, each day I wait,
Learn, spend and collect miles by the crates.
I’m now planning for more trips ahead.
Only to spend a fraction of what I previously paid.
Never stop what you’re doing, Aaron, coz you are doing great!

    Congrats on the 1M milestone.

  17. We wish our travels were long on miles
But usually we end up short of miles
Life is full of conditions and fear
Why worry when Milelion is here!

  18. This blog has really become fantastic. Love that we finally have some Singaporean representation in the milehacker community! Keep it up MileLion! ?

  19. Congratulations Aaron. You know I thought I had the miles game figured out, having first gotten an addiction to credit card points when I was in uni back in Australia (back then I redeemed for cash because one of the banks offered a cash back rate of essentially 1.8% or 1.5 miles per $1, and being Australian on a uni student’s budget I wasn’t going to be doing any LH business class trips soon!). But having now moved to Singapore and reading your site as well as all the reader’s comments, I am still able to learn a few new things.

My view on the miles game is to take advantage of it while it lasts. If you want an example of how quickly the miles game can be curtailed, look at Australia where the interchange rates are now regulated resulting in the miles game being decimated. Sadly these days 1mpd in Australia is a damn good card, with the exception of Amex who have loopholed their way out of the regulations. On the plus side though, stronger consumer laws in Australia would mean UOB wouldn’t survive on their current marketing strategy, and the sneakiness to which airlines, LCCs in particular, get ancillary revenues has been curtailed.

As for my little 2c on the world, I just booked SQ business class redemptions to Japan and Korea for Sakura 2018 (yes I am planning things way ahead). I’m just sitting fingers crossed that Mr Kim of Pyongyang doesn’t go off and ruin things for me. Memo to Messrs Kim, Trump, Xi, Abe and future Blue Room occupant – kindly hold off on sending the Korean peninsula back to the 15th century until May 2018 please.
You know I was really interested in taking a tour of North Korea. 4 day tours start from EUR1,000 starting in Beijing which I thought was decent for an opportunity to look into an isolated communist regime before it toppled over. Sadly I think I missed the boat on that.

    • i assume you already know about the folks over at pointhacks? they cover the aussie market pretty well.

re: korea, perhaps I’m tempting fate but i find it hard to believe that anything will actually happen. everyone involved has too much to lose.

that said, there’s no accounting for insanity.

  20. Now, about that stand chart omnibus portion.
Surely this reminder is worth some freebie.
    *Wink* *nudge*

One important site for credit cards, kudos for all the legwork done so that everyone can earn miles the fastest.

  21. Congrats on hitting 1m viewership Aaron. Tats an impressive feat.

Your blog enabled me and my family to travel premium class for our first time nearly 1 year ago, and many more to come in future. Do keep it up, nice work!

  22. Hey aaron, always a big fan. Been following for awhile and it’s nice seeing a niche blog like yours featured in mainstream news and shared on fb by friends I knew were never into miles/points. The growing awareness shows that you are doing something right over here. Keep posting!

  23. Congrats!! While I am signing up for this giveaway, might as well ask you a question. I’ve been offered the Citi Prestige Card. I already have UOB Prvi Amex. Just wondering if its worth getting this card. The only benefit seems to be the sign on miles and the priority pass.

    • yeah, depends if you need miles. if so $535 for 25,000 miles is not a terrible rate to buy them at, as is the lounge. but i’d also encourage you to think about the 4th night free benefit which can save you a whole chunk of money, especially if you travel a lot for work. I personally don’t need to buy miles at this point in time so will not pull the trigger on the prestige. plus, i’m not a fan of their points redemption system (i.e no combining of premiermiles and thankyou points). i am, however, a big fan of the large number of conversion options they have.

  24. CONGRATS on passing the 1 million mark in total views, a higher milestone to hit next! Hope to be randomly selected as the winner for your giveaway 😀

  25. Congrats on hitting the milestone (hurhur) and looking forwrd to even more informative and entertaining articles to come! 🙂

  26. Congrats on hitting the milestone! Keep the useful articles coming and I am happy to celebrate my birthday tomorrow with your milestone achievement! 🙂

  27. Aaron thank you for making a change in our lives! (Am I getting any brownie points yet?) Pick me and I’m sure you will gain the most manly man figure in the not-so-far-off future!

  28. Hi Aaron,

No incredible intelligence here but nonetheless I am motivated by pure human instincts (i.e. greed) to leave my email address. Congrats on hitting the milestone and thank you for helping me avoid the UOB Krisflyer a/c, cheers!

  29. Hodor.

Thanks for being the hero we need (and hopefully deserve)!

Pick me, those bulging biceps need to be complimented in person.

  30. Big congratulations !
Best comprehensive review website ever !
    Long live Milelion !

come come come to me …… Rimowa and PJ …….

  31. Congrats on reaching your milestone Aaron, and for your passionate endeavours in uncovering the truths underneath recent shady marketing campaign(s).

I write the above with the most sincere thought I could muster, without the intend of wanting your giveaway. Okay, I (half-)lied. haha. But coincidentally, my birthday is also two days away. I don’t need the giveaway amenities kit, but I welcome the idea of a meet-up to celebrate milelion’s anniversary, and my birthday (haha!). Cheers!

    jonnyboy

  32. Congrats. I only recently come across your blog and it has been a revelation! Definitely been devouring what u have written over the past few days!

  33. OMG i was still contemplating how much $$$ to put into if i sign up UOB krisflyer until my son showed me your blog this morning…and the rest is history 🙂

keep on writing and may the good miles be with you

  34. We know you hate cash back cards. But what is there not to love about SingPost? It is Fever eligible and nice 7% up to $60 ($50 after Fever medical fees) per month.

  35. Truth be told, I already have a few sets of Eva PJs and Rimowa cases, one can never have enough! (and I’m a huge fan of your blog)

  36. learned to travel hack with the milelion! with many applications to the booking of flights from Sin. with the tips on mileion, one is closer to a premium class of travel for the next flight!

    thumbs uppppppppp!

  37. Congratulations on all those multiple milestones aaron!

The mile journey has been really fun after stalking your blog from when it first started.

Till date me and my partner has redeemed almost 10 JCL tickets! Much thanks to you TBH.

It’s unfortunate that there is really not much left for seasoned miles collectors as we owned almost all the possible mileage cards. 🙁 no more welcome treats, I’m still feeling sore about the Citibank one:( all I got was like 60 miserable dollars back than.
