Citi Rewards Card extends sign-up bonus to 30 June 2021

Expired

Yet another extension for the Citi Rewards Card's sign-up bonus- spend S$3,000 in the first 3 months and get up to 22,800 miles.

Since January 2019, the Citi Rewards Card has been running a sign-up bonus where new-to-bank cardholders can earn up to 22,800 miles by spending S$3,000 in the first 3 months of approval.

Apply Here

This offer has been periodically extended, and the most recent iteration lapsed on 31 December 2020. Citibank has now renewed the offer for sign-ups until 31 August 2021.

Do keep in mind that the sign-up bonus is only available for applications made through the link above; you won’t be eligible for it if you apply via SingSaver.

Citi Rewards Card sign-up offer

New-to-bank Citi cardholders who apply by 31 August 2021 will receive 27,000 bonus ThankYou points (equivalent to 10,800 miles), when they spend S$3,000 in the first 3 months after approval.

💳 Citibank defines “new-to-bank” customers as those who do not hold a principal Citibank credit card now, or in the past 12 months before application

Assuming you spend the S$3,000 on eligible 10X categories (and if you don’t, you’re using this card wrong), you’re looking at a total of 57,000 ThankYou points (22,800 miles), split as follows:

  • 3,000 base points for spending S$3,000
  • 27,000 bonus points for spending S$3,000 on 10X categories
  • 27,000 bonus points for hitting sign-up bonus
❓ What are eligible 10X categories?

Eligible 10X categories include all spending at online merchants (excluding travel), and offline spending at merchants with the following MCCs:

  • MCC 5311: Department Stores
  • MCC 5611: Men’s and Boy’s Clothing and Accessories Stores
  • MCC 5621: Women’s Ready to Wear Store
  • MCC 5631: Women’s Accessory and Specialty Stores
  • MCC 5641: Children’s and Infant’s Wear Stores
  • MCC 5651: Family Clothing Stores
  • MCC 5655: Sports and Riding Apparel Stores
  • MCC 5661: Shoe Stores
  • MCC 5691: Men’s and Women’s Clothing Stores
  • MCC 5699: Miscellaneous Apparel and Accessory Shops
  • MCC 5948: Luggage and Leather Good Stores

Remember: the cap on 10X points is S$1,000 per statement month, so you’ll need to spread out your spending over the qualifying period to maximize your total miles.

The 27,000 bonus points will be credited within two calendar months of meeting the spending criteria. For example, if you hit it in the third month, you’ll receive the bonus points by the end of the fifth month.

Citi has a rather generous definition of “first 3 months”- this includes the period from card approval to the end of the calendar month, plus three full calendar months after that. For example, if you get approved on 5 January 2021, you’ll have until 30 April 2021 to meet the spending threshold. Therefore, you’ll want to apply towards the beginning of the month to get as much time as possible.

The full T&C for this offer can be found here.

Why earn points with Citibank?

Citi points are one of the most useful rewards currencies in Singapore, thanks to the sheer number of transfer partners available. Most banks offer just KrisFlyer, or at most, Asia Miles. Citi has 11 different transfer partners, including some with great sweet spots like Etihad Guest, British Airways Executive Club, and Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles. Qatar Airways Privilege Club has recently cleaned up its act too, and could be useful for trips to Europe.

Citi ThankYou points can be transferred to the following partner programs:

Thank You points earned on the Citi Rewards card are valid 5 years from the date of card opening.

The downside is that Citi points do not pool. If you’ve accumulated points on both the Citi Rewards Card and Citi PremierMiles Card, those will not be combined for the purpose of redemption and you’ll have to pay two separate redemption fees (S$26.75 each).

Review: Citi Rewards Credit Card

Citibank has regularly extended the sign-up offer for the Citi Rewards Card, so much so we can almost consider it an evergreen promotion. It’s certainly a useful card to have for online spending, and if you don’t already have it, now’s as good a time as any.

I’ve updated the credit card sign up bonus page to reflect this latest information.

Too much hassle

It takes too much effort to get 10X on the Citi Rewards Mastercard. The Visa one is (was) so much better. Citibank CSOs just copy and paste the T&Cs. It takes multiple back and forths to get missing points. What a waste of time. Not worth it.

DBS Women World is a much better option. The best combo is DBS altitude + DBS Women World, way better than Citi since DBS pull points from different cards together.
