DBS Power The Things You Love extended for Feb: Another 8% rebate on dining and shopping

DBS has extended their spend and redeem campaign for February 2021- check your PayLah app to get your new spending goal.

Back in November, DBS launched a new spend and redeem promotion called Power The Things You Love, where registered cardholders could earn an 8% cash credit from dining and shopping. This could then be used for dining, shopping or staycations.

Power The Things You Love was originally due to lapse on 31 January 2021, but DBS has extended it and added an additional gift for spending made between 1-28 February 2021.

Round 2: DBS Power The Things You Love Promotion

All cardholders who previously registered for Power The Things You Love are automatically registered already. If you missed out last time, too bad- the 30,000 cardmember cap has already been reached.

You should see your updated reward tracker in the PayLah app, showing you how much you need to spend, and how long you have to do it.

Registered cardholders need to meet their spending goal between 1-28 February 2021, after which they’ll receive an 8% cash credit to use from 15 February to 15 June 2021.

Here’s a full list of the possible spend goals and rewards.

TierSpend Goal
(Spend: 1-28 Feb 21)
Reward
(Redeem: 15 Feb- 15 Jun 21)
1S$200S$16
2S$800S$64
3S$1,200S$96
4S$2,000S$160
5S$3,600S$288

The spend goal can be met with spending across all the DBS/POSB cards under your account during the promotion period. Spending can be in SGD or foreign currency, offline or online. All spending must be made on qualifying categories, which DBS defines as the following (MCCs not provided in T&Cs and are based on CSO feedback):

  • Watches and jewellery (5094, 5944)
  • Bars and restaurants (5812, 5813, 5814)
  • Electronic and computers (5045, 5065, 5732, 5734)
  • Department Stores (5309, 5310, 5311, 5331, 5399)
  • Home/Office Furnishing & Appliances (5021, 5200, 5712, 5713, 5714, 5718, 5719, 5722, 5997)
  • Apparel (5137, 5139, 5611, 5621, 5631, 5641, 5651, 5691, 5697, 5698, 5699, 5655, 5661, 5681)
  • Specialty retail (4225, 5111, 5193, 5531, 5931, 5932, 5933, 5937, 5943, 5947, 5999, 9751, 5977, 5996, 5948, 5950, 5973, 5978, 5992, 5993)

How does the reward work?

A push notification with the cash credit amount will be sent to all qualified cardmembers by 15 March 2021. This can be used to offset shopping, dining and/or staycation spend made between 15 February -15 June 2021.

DBS again has not provided explicit MCC ranges for shopping, dining, and/or staycations, instead using category descriptions. The ranges below are based on CSO feedback:

  • Apparel (5137, 5139, 5611, 5621, 5631, 5641, 5651, 5691, 5697, 5698, 5699, 5655, 5661, 5681)
  • Bars and restaurants (5812, 5813, 5814)
  • Department Stores (5309, 5310, 5311, 5331, 5399)
  • Electronic and computers (5045, 5065, 5732, 5734)
  • Home/Office Furnishing & Appliances (5021, 5200, 5712, 5713, 5714, 5718, 5719, 5722, 5997)
  • Hotel/Lodging (3500-3999, 7011)
  • Specialty retail (4225, 5111, 5193, 5531, 5931, 5932, 5933, 5937, 5943, 5947, 5999, 9751, 5977, 5996, 5948, 5950, 5973, 5978, 5992, 5993)
  • Tour Agencies (4722)
  • Watches and jewellery (5094, 5944)

If your transaction is less than the credit amount, the balance will be used to offset the next purchase. For example, if I qualify for Tier 4, I’ll receive a S$160 cash credit. I can spend the S$160 over as many eligible transactions as I wish- a S$100 staycation, S$20 dinner and S$40 shopping spree, for instance.

If in doubt about the MCC of a particular merchant, try looking it up with the Visa Supplier Locator.

Conclusion

She looks like she’s about to kill him

While you only have one month to hit the spending goal, DBS has scaled down the spending requirement in roughly the same proportion (i.e a third). Assuming you can meet your spending goal with online transactions, it’s a great opportunity to stack some cashback with the 4 mpd on the DBS Woman’s World Card.

Not sure if anyone noticed but recently, my transaction in carousel became “computer software stores”

It used to be under “speciality retail”

Luckily it is still qualified for the DBS promo..
