Register now: Up to S$480 of staycation credits with American Express cards

Expired

Planning a staycation? Register your AMEX card and save up to S$480 on stays at Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, Millennium Hotels and more.

American Express has brought back its popular staycation credits offer, where registered cardholders can enjoy savings at numerous hotels, hotel restaurants and spas across Singapore.

The latest set of offers is called Precious Moments, and is available from 2 September to 30 November 2021.

AMEX Staycation Offers

AMEX Staycation Statement Credit Offers

American Express cardholders can now register for the above AMEX Offers via the AMEX app or online banking portal.

โ“ What are AMEX Offers?

AMEX Offers are opportunities to earn bonus miles or Membership Rewards points, or discounts in the form of statement credits. These are available to Platinum, True Cashback, and KrisFlyer cardholders, and can be found in the โ€œOffersโ€ section of the AMEX app or web portal.

Registration is required, and some offers may be targeted. These are not applicable to DBS/Citi/UOB AMEX cardholders.

Registration is on a per card basis, so if you have two different AMEX cards, you can register both and enjoy the offer twice. Supplementary cardholders can also register, but out of consideration to others, please don’t register more cards than you need.

These offers are valid for transactions made by 30 November 2021, and can be used for dining, spa treatment or stays at participating locations (see next section). Each offer can be used once

Payments must generally be made in-person at the hotel, with the exception of Millennium Hotels & Resorts and Unlimited Collection by Oakwood, which allow payments on their websites.

In situations where payments must be made in-person, any rates which are prepaid online will not qualify for the offer. That’s a problem, since prepaid rates tend to be the cheapest, but fortunately there’s a workaround.

Look for the rate you wish to book on the website, then email the hotel and ask if they can help you with the reservation offline. You can then head down to the hotel to swipe your card and make payment in advance of your actual stay.

Also note that you do not need to clock the entire spend in a single transaction. For example, the Hyatt offer requires S$300 in cumulative spending to trigger a S$75 credit. You could do this in three separate transactions of S$80, S$100, and S$120. In fact, the transactions need not even be at the same property; you could combine spending across the Grand Hyatt and Andaz Singapore.

*F&B charged to room during a stay will count toward spending. Spend at restaurant outside of a stay will not.

The sharp-eyed amongst you may have noticed that some of these restaurants participate in the Love Dining program. The Love Dining and AMEX Offers will stack, and it all boils down to the nett amount charged to your card (after Love Dining discounts, service charge and GST).

Super stacking for AMEX Platinum Charge/ Centurion members

SKIRT, W Sentosa Cove

In fact, there’s a way for AMEX Platinum Charge/Centurion cardholders to stretch this even further. American Express recently launched a S$350/S$1,000 dining credit for Platinum Charge/Centurion members, valid at more than 1,000 restaurants worldwide.

In Singapore, that list includes SKIRT at W Hotel and Yan Ting at St. Regis, both under the Marriott umbrella. A Platinum Charge member could:

  • Eat S$680 worth of food at SKIRT/Yan Ting
  • Pay S$400 nett after a 50% Love Dining discount, 7% GST and 10% service charge
  • Get a S$100 statement credit from the staycation offer, plus a S$350 statement credit from the dining offer

You’ve basically earned S$50 for eating S$680. Granted, it might be hard for two people to hit S$680 in a single sitting, but remember- there’s no need for it to all be in one transaction.

How does this compare to the previous offer?

This isn’t the first time that American Express has run such an offer. In April this year, a similar promotion was available for Hilton, Hyatt, Pan Pacific Hotels Group and Millennium Hotels & Resorts.

Here’s how the two compare:

Chain Current Offer Previous Offer
Hilton S$60 off S$300
(20% rebate)
S$60 off S$300
(20% rebate)
Hyatt S$75 off S$300
(25% rebate)
S$60 off S$300
(20% rebate)
Millennium Hotels & Resorts S$120 off S$400
(30% rebate)
S$60 off S$300
(20% rebate)

The current iteration is more generous, and although Pan Pacific Hotels Group is no longer available, Marriott, Unlimited Collection by Oakwood and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts have been added.

Conclusion

American Express’ latest set of staycation credits will come in useful for those planning something for the September school holidays, or for anyone who isn’t ready for VTL travel just yet.

As a reminder, you can book luxury privilege rates at selected Hyatt and Marriot properties through an agent like HoteLux and enjoy free breakfast, US$100 hotel credits and room upgrades where available. Since these rates are fully refundable and charged by the hotel itself at check-out, there won’t be any issues triggering the credit.

Enrolments are limited, so take a couple of minutes to register your card now.

does it mean hotelux booking can stack with this amex promotion? i.e. when i make payment for my hotelux booking, is paid to the hotel directly and not to hotelux

Yap

Can we book Hotelux for Dec staycation? Then pay in advance at hotel? e.g. before Nov.

JW19

I think it’s possible, at least for Bonvoy hotels, the booking instantly updates into the Bonvoy app and you could pull up to the hotel front desk and pay up. Did that to St Regis and W.

ok. i emailed. wait for reply. Else. i just cancel my hotelux booking.
