DBS has brought back its extremely lucrative offer for the DBS Takashimaya AMEX Card, available to both new and existing DBS/POSB cardholders.
It’s basically a free S$200 for anyone who doesn’t already hold this card (and didn’t cancel one in the last 12 months)- I have no idea how they’re funding this, but I’m not about to question a good thing.
Get S$200 cashback with the DBS Takashimaya AMEX Card

From 1 November to 31 December 2021, new DBS Takashimaya AMEX cardholders who spend a minimum of S$200 at Takashimaya Department Store within the first month of card approval will receive S$200 cashback. It’s as simple as that.
There is no new-to-bank requirement; you’re eligible for this promotion even if you already have a DBS/POSB credit card. The only exclusion is for individuals who already hold a DBS Takashimaya Card (AMEX or Visa), or cancelled one in the past 12 months.
The qualifying spend period starts from the date of approval. For example, if your card is approved on 10 November 2021, your qualifying spend period will run from 10 November to 9 December 2021.
Qualifying spend excludes the following:
- Purchase of Takashimaya Gift Vouchers
- Transactions at Cold Storage, Food Village and selected food merchants at Food Hall, B2 (i.e. only merchants that require payment to be made at designated Takashimaya cashier
counters will be considered for the campaign) - Transactions on instalment payment plan and My Preferred Payment Plans
Other than that, everything else at Takashimaya is fair game.
The S$200 cashback will be credited to your card account within 90 days from the card opening month. This means you’ll need to pay your first month’s bill through other means- it’s not an immediate offset.
I was skeptical when I first read about this deal, but my S$200 cashback was credited to my account on 25 October, 34 days after I made the minimum qualifying spend.
If you don’t see the cashback on your DBS Takashimaya AMEX account, be sure to check your other DBS cards. For reasons I don’t quite understand, the Milelioness got her rebate credited to her DBS Woman’s World Card instead.

As far as “too good to be true” deals come, this is right up there with the best of them. It’s basically a free S$200 for Christmas shopping.
Once again, do remember that the offset is not immediate. You will still need to pay your first month’s bill, so don’t ignore it!
When the S$200 has been credited, you can spend it via the DBS Takashimaya AMEX (wherever you please), or transfer it to offset the balance on another DBS card.
i guess that means purchases made on takashimaya online is not included. Only at physical counters?
i read a few data points that it’s OK, but when in doubt check with the source.
If I were to purchase Nespresso capsules at the Nespresso section of Takashimaya, would that qualify?
Would like to know too!
i spend $200 buying nespresso capsules @taka during last promo and got my $200 cashback
I spent $200+ on Takashimaya Online and got the cashback. ๐
Other than the data points, the card page explicitly mentions online store:
2. Spend a minimum of S$200 at Takashimaya Department Store and/or Takashimaya Department Storeโs online store within the first month from Card approval date with your new DBS Takashimaya American Expressยฎ Card to receive S$200 cashback.
I applied during the earlier promotion and included spending at the specialty store which unfortunately does not qualify myself for the S$200 cash back. Please take note.
Given its 10Dec now, say, if we apply today, any datapoint on how long it normally takes to receive the card? ie, since need to make the $200 spend by 31dec? assuming no issue in getting card approval as existing dbs card holder.
i got mine within a week.
Just to share a datapoint – I just applied for the card through DBS IB and got the card approved immediately, and a message told me that the physical card will be sent to me in 3 working days. The new card number was reflected immediately in my accounts as well. (Iโm an existing DBS card holder.)
Based on the T&Cs, you have to have your application approved by 31 December 2021; but the spending need not be done by 31 December 2021, rather 30 days from card approval. So technically, if your card application gets approved on 31 December 2021, your spending period will be between 31 December 2021 and 29 January 2022. I have also checked this with DBS and confirmed the aforesaid. My question was โ (1) I note that the Promotion Period is 1 November 2021 – 31 December 2021; the card application has to be approved within the Promotion Period and that… Read more »
Is there a 1st year fee waiver for this card?
yup.
Any Idea how early should we cancel this card after that?
