To mark Black Friday, Kris+ is offering 40% milesback on all partners across Singapore, which boosts the value per mile to 1.11 cents apiece.
While this is far from an eye-watering valuation, it may be enticing enough for people with expiring miles, especially since Singapore Airlines is discontinuing KrisFlyer miles extensions from 31 January 2023 onwards.

Kris+ 40% milesback promotion
From 18-27 November 2022, Kris+ users will get 40% milesback on all transactions made through the Kris+ app. This includes both in-store payments, as well as partner vouchers purchased in-app through the Flash Deals section.
To illustrate how this works, suppose you spend 15,000 KrisPay miles at a Kris+ merchant (S$100 value). You’ll receive an instant rebate of 6,000 miles, for a net outlay of 9,000 miles.
Payment | 40% Rebate | Net Outlay | Value Per Mile |
15,000 miles (S$100) |
6,000 miles | 9,000 miles | 1.11 cents (S$100 / 9,000) |
This yields a value of 1.11 cents per mile, much better than the usual 0.67 cents per mile. For perspective, 40% milesback is one of the largest offers we see Kris+ running, just shy of the best-ever 45% milesback offer in November 2020.
Miles earned under the milesback promotion cannot be transferred into KrisFlyer, so to realise that full 1.11 cents, you’ll need to make a few transactions during the promotion period. For example:
- You transfer 15,000 miles to Kris+ and spend them for S$100
- You’ll receive a rebate of 6,000 miles
- Suppose you only spend these after the promotion period ends. Your milesback will be worth S$40 (6,000 miles @ 150 miles/S$1), which means your total value for 15,000 miles was S$100 + S$40, or 0.93 cents per mile
In other words, it’s an iterative process, and it takes a few transactions to get to the maximum value. Of course, it’s a moot point if you only spend KrisPay miles during milesback campaigns (as you should!).
How does this compare to other redemption options?
A value of 1.11 cents per mile is nowhere as good as redeeming flights, but it would be one of the better options for using miles on the ground. I’d much sooner choose this than spending KrisFlyer miles on KrisShop or Pelago, for example.
Options for Spending KrisFlyer Miles
Redemption Option | Value per mile
โ๏ธ | Award flights | 2-6 cents |
๐ฑ | Kris+ (with 40% milesback) | 1.11 cents |
โ๏ธ | Pay for flights with miles | 0.95 cents |
๐ | KrisFlyer vRooms | 0.8 cents |
๐๏ธ | KrisShop | 0.8 cents |
๐จ | Shangri-La Golden Circle conversion | 0.77 cents |
๐ฌ | CapitaStar conversion | 0.7 cents |
๐ก | Pelago | 0.67 cents |
๐ | LinkPoints conversion | 0.65 cents |
โฝ | Esso Smiles conversion | 0.33- 0.67 cents |
The utility of this promotion ultimately boils down to how much you value a mile, and your upcoming travel plans. If you see yourself booking an award flight soon, there’s really no reason to take advantage of this. But if you have a stash of expiring miles with no opportunity to use them, then this might be a decent exit strategy.
Earn KrisPay miles via Kris+
While spending KrisFlyer miles via Kris+ may not be for everyone, earning them definitely should be.
Kris+ now partners with more than 300 popular retailers such as Bottles & Bottles, Challenger and Harvey Norman. Members can earn up to 9 mpd at participating merchants, which is stackable with credit card miles for a total earn rate of 13 mpd.
Basically, all you do is:
- Scan the merchant’s Kris+ QR code
- Enter the amount to be paid, and press “Pay” to pay via Apple/Google Pay
Don’t forget to transfer any KrisPay miles you earn to KrisFlyer within 7 days of the transaction. Wait any longer, and they’ll be stuck in Kris+ forever (with a six month expiry, to boot).
In-app payments in Kris+ follow the underlying merchant’s regular MCC. In other words, simply use whatever credit card you’d normally use at that particular merchant.

Conclusion
Kris+’s Black Friday promotion offers 40% milesback till 27 November 2022, or a value of 1.11 cents per mile.
This is the largest milesback offer we’ve seen on Kris+ for a while, and may be worth considering in certain circumstances.
the 40% miles back only valid for transaction that are paid via miles. I don’t think amount paid via apply/google pay will received 40% back (in krispay miles). FYI
Yup- that’s how every milesback promo works
Worth noting that you get the 40% miles-back on KrisPay miles that are earned in the app and that canโt be transferred to Kris Flyer (e.g. from the Mastercard promo in the article, daily check-in challenge etc.). So definitely a good chance to use those miles.
The offer in the app itself is slightly mis-leading as indicates you have to transfer miles into Kris+ first, but not necessary
Need help. If I buy a mattress at $4000 and it gives 4000×6 miles = 24000 miles. Can I transfer the 24000 miles to KF or is it stuck in the app? If I use these earned miles to purchase something via the app, I get 40% miles back? I got nearly 2 million KF miles and I find it extremely difficult to redeem any flights. Dunno ๐คทโโ๏ธ what to do!
