KrisFlyer and Marriott Bonvoy offering two-way status match and accelerator

Enjoy instant Marriott Bonvoy Gold or KrisFlyer Elite Silver, with a fast-track to Platinum (10 nights) or Elite Gold (4 flights).

At the start of this year, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Marriott Bonvoy launched a two-way points conversion partnership, allowing members to transfer points in either direction.

While the transfer ratios (at least in the direction of KrisFlyer to Marriott Bonvoy) weren’t particularly enticing, the partnership has now been further strengthened with a status match and status accelerator offer.

Match KrisFlyer to Bonvoy
Match Bonvoy to KrisFlyer

In the direction of KrisFlyer to Marriott Bonvoy:

  • Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members can enjoy instant Marriott Bonvoy Gold, with a further upgrade to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum by completing 10 nights in six months
  • KrisFlyer Elite Silver members do not receive any instant status, but can upgrade to Marriott Bonvoy Silver by completing three nights in six months.

In the direction of Marriott Bonvoy to KrisFlyer:

  • Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador, Titanium and Platinum members can enjoy instant KrisFlyer Elite Silver, with a further upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Gold by completing four flights in six months
  • Marriott Bonvoy Gold members do not receive any instant status, but can upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Silver by completing two flights in six months

Here’s the full details of how it works.

From KrisFlyer to Marriott Bonvoy

KrisFlyer Tier Instant Match To… Status Accelerator Challenge
PPS Club & Solitaire PPS Club Gold Platinum
(10 nights in 6 months)
KrisFlyer Elite Gold
KrisFlyer Elite Silver N/A Silver
(3 nights in 6 months)

Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members can register to receive an instant status match to Marriott Bonvoy Gold, which usually requires 25 qualifying nights per calendar year.

Should they subsequently stay at least 10 qualifying nights in a six-month period, they will be further upgraded to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum, which usually requires 50 qualifying nights per calendar year.

KrisFlyer Elite Silver members do not receive any instant status, but can register and receive Marriott Bonvoy Silver when they stay at least 3 qualifying nights in a six-month period, which usually requires 10 qualifying nights per calendar year.

Is it worth it?

A 25% points bonus, non-guaranteed 2 p.m check-out and a vague shot at a room upgrade are pretty much all you can expect from Bonvoy Gold

Let’s start from the bottom. Marriott Bonvoy Silver is simply not worth your time. The key benefits include:

  • 10% bonus on points earning
  • “Priority” for late check-out

That’s basically it. You shouldn’t go out of your way to stay three nights just to earn this.

Marriott Bonvoy Gold is also rather underwhelming- something I can confidently tell you as Lifetime Gold member. The key benefits include:

  • 25% bonus on points earning
  • Room upgrade, subject to availability
  • 2 p.m late check-out, subject to availability
  • Welcome gift of 250/500 bonus points, depending on brand
  • Premium Wi-Fi

With the Bonvoy pyramid so top-heavy (it’s possible to get Platinum status via credit card in the US, without any stays), you’ll be very far down in the pecking order for room upgrades.

However, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum is definitely worth having. The key benefits include:

  • 50% bonus on points earning
  • Room upgrade, subject to availability (including Select Suites)
  • 4 p.m late check-out, guaranteed (except at resort and convention hotels)
  • Complimentary daily breakfast for 2 adults per room (subject to Marriott’s byzantine list of exclusions)
  • Lounge access
  • Premium Wi-Fi

Breakfast, lounge access and 4 p.m guaranteed late check-out are enticing indeed, and the opportunity to achieve this with just 10 nights (instead of the usual 50) is certainly something I’ll be considering.

How long is status valid for?

Here’s a quick PSA: Don’t rush it.

While it may be tempting to get your accounts upgraded ASAP, when you register affects how long you can enjoy your status for.

For example, a member who registers in December 2023 will receive Marriott Bonvoy Gold for the rest of 2023, all of 2024, and until February 2025 (the heuristic is: year of qualification + subsequent year + Jan & Feb of the following year).

But if he just delayed his registration by one month and did it in January 2024, he will enjoy status till February 2026. That’s an additional 12 months of benefits, just by waiting one month!

Register In Status Valid Till
December 2023 February 2025
January 2024 February 2026

That said, if you’re aiming to fulfill the Platinum status accelerator requirements and have upcoming stays planned in December 2023, then by all means register now so they count towards the qualifying nights. My only advice would be to clock your 10th night in January 2024.

Why? Same logic. If you clock your 10th night in December 2023, then your Platinum status would be valid till February 2025. If you clock your 10th night in January 2024, then your Platinum status would be valid till February 2026!

To be clear, you cannot register for a status match first, then start the status accelerator at a later time. The status accelerator clock starts ticking once your status match is confirmed.

Status matched members will need to fulfill the regular requalification criteria under Marriott Bonvoy’s rules to maintain status beyond the match period.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite: 10 qualifying nights in a calendar year
  • Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite: 25 qualifying nights in a calendar year
  • Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite: 50 qualifying nights in a calendar year

What if I already hold status?

Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members who already hold Marriott Bonvoy Gold status will enjoy a 12-month extension of status from the date of registration.

If you hold Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status (or higher), you cannot use this offer to further extend your membership.

From Marriott Bonvoy to KrisFlyer

Marriott Bonvoy Tier Instant Match To… Status Accelerator Challenge
Ambassador KrisFlyer Elite Silver KrisFlyer Elite Gold
(4 flights in 6 months)

Titanium
Platinum
Gold N/A KrisFlyer Elite Silver
(2 flights in 6 months)

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador members can register to receive an instant status match to KrisFlyer Elite Silver, which usually requires 25,000 Elite miles per membership year.

Should they subsequently complete four qualifying flights in a six-month period, they will be further upgraded to KrisFlyer Elite Gold, which usually requires 50,000 Elite miles per membership year.

Marriott Bonvoy Gold members do not receive any instant status, but can register and receive KrisFlyer Elite Silver status when they complete two qualifying flights in a six-month period.

Qualifying flights include any commercial booking on Singapore Airlines in any booking class, and exclude the following:

  • Award tickets
  • Codeshare flights
  • Group fares in the ‘G’ booking class

A round-trip journey will count as two flights. Therefore, you basically need one round-trip flight (KrisFlyer Elite Silver) or two round-trip flights (KrisFlyer Elite Gold).

If your flight has a stopover, but has a single flight number, it’s considered as one flight (e.g. SQ26 from SIN-FRA-JFK).

Is it worth it?

KrisFlyer Gold Lounge

KrisFlyer Elite Silver is better than nothing, but don’t get your hopes up. The key benefits are:

  • 25% bonus mileage accrual
  • Priority waitlisting
  • Complimentary advance seat selection (Standard seats)

You can read more about this in the post below.

Complete Guide: KrisFlyer Elite Silver benefits

KrisFlyer Elite Gold may not be the rarefied air of the PPS Club, but it’s certainly better than KrisFlyer Elite Silver. Key benefits include:

  • 25% bonus mileage accrual
  • Priority waitlisting
  • Complimentary advance seat selection (Forward and Standard seats)
  • 20kg extra baggage
  • Priority check-in
  • Priority baggage handling
  • Priority boarding
  • Lounge access

You can read more about this in the post below.

Complete Guide: KrisFlyer Elite Gold benefits

This status accelerator challenge is not nearly as generous as the one offered under the Infinite Journeys partnership that Singapore Airlines has with Shangri-La Circle (where Jades and Diamonds get KrisFlyer Elite Gold with just three and one eligible flight respectively), but it’s still a significant cut from the usual threshold.

How long is status valid for?

Matched status will be valid for 12 months from the day of registration, with status ending on the last day of the 12th month. For example, a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member who registers on 13 December 2023 will receive KrisFlyer Elite Silver till 31 December 2024.

This means that unlike matching from KrisFlyer to Marriott Bonvoy, timing is relatively less important in this direction. At the most you might want to wait till the 1st of the month to register, since status expires at the end of the 12th calendar month after.

And if you intend to go for the KrisFlyer Elite Gold status accelerator, then you obviously want to time your registration around a period you know you’ll be travelling more.

Status matched members will need to fulfill the regular requalification criteria under KrisFlyer’s rules to maintain status beyond the match period.

  • KrisFlyer Elite Silver: 25,000 Elite miles in a membership year
  • KrisFlyer Elite Gold: 50,000 Elite miles in a membership year

What if I already hold status?

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador members who already hold KrisFlyer Elite Silver will enjoy a 12-month extension of status from the date of registration.

Existing KrisFlyer Elite Gold members cannot use this offer to further extend their status.

From Marriott Bonvoy to KrisFlyer

Here’s the steps to match or accelerate your Marriott Bonvoy status to KrisFlyer:

  1. Sign into your Marriott Bonvoy account via this page
  2. Follow the prompts to connect and link your KrisFlyer account

The matched status (if any) will be reflected within 48 hours.

Terms & Conditions and FAQs

You can refer to the following links for the full T&Cs of this partnership, as well as FAQs.

Do note that the first and last names on your KrisFlyer and Marriott Bonvoy accounts must match for the registration to be processed. If you have different names on both, contact customer service to get them updated.

Conclusion

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Marriott Bonvoy have launched a two-way status match and status accelerator challenge, which offers instant Marriott Bonvoy Gold or KrisFlyer Elite Silver, plus a fast-track to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum or KrisFlyer Elite Gold.

The latter is something I’d consider very seriously, since the requirement of 10 nights (Platinum) or four flights (Elite Gold) is a significant cut from the usual.

Once again, exercise particular care with timing your registration, especially in the KrisFlyer to Marriott Bonvoy direction. Aim to qualify for status in January 2024 instead of December 2023, in order to enjoy perks for an additional year.

I have KFEG expiring this month.
I plan to:

Status Match to Bonvoy Gold
Accelerate to Bonvoy Platinum by May 2024 (10 nights)
Status Match back to KFES
Accelerate to KFEG with 4 flights by Nov 2024

Is this possible?

Patrick

Ha. Same thoughts as my KFEG is expiring too.

Commonsense

Do u think that normal ppl have similar intelligence like u both so there’s this loophole? Once u linked the accounts, they r registered in system.

Tom

At least they can type in coherent sentences!

Hon Bing

May be a problem based on this TnC
5. To participate in, and complete, the Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Accelerator Challenge, a
KrisFlyer Member must hold an ACTIVE , validated account with Solitaire PPS Club, PPS
Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold status in the KrisFlyer Program and an active, validated
Marriott Bonvoy Account with Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite membership status obtained
through the Preferred Partnership Program.
However , if you’re successful , do post on it !

Emma

In similar situation and wondering if there’s other status matches to get Bonvoy Gold before changing it back to KFEG…

5throck

I have KFEG expiring in February 2024. Can i use the accelerator now to get Marriott Platinum and then subsequently match Marriott Platinum to KFEG after i lose KFEG? 😂

George

I think the system should be smart enough to link up your Marriott member number with your KrisFlyer number. So answer should be a no.

Tom

I think you’re putting too much credit in the design process for the system haha. I’m going to try the same thing with KFEG expiring in June to get it re-upgraded after it expires and Platinum in the process.

John

If I match to KrisFlyer Silver, do I start at 25,000 miles or do I start at 0 miles? Trying to see if there’s a sensible strategy to then get Gold.

Bryn

Neither; you’ll remain at whatever amount you currently have towards KFEG.

Only the elite miles required for requalification for KFES will drop to 0.

Banmoi

its in the T&C… 0

Jem

If I already have bonvoy gold, can I do 4 flights in 6 months and jump straight to KFEG?

Bryn

No, you’ll need bonvoy platinum to be eligible for the accelerator to KFEG.

Jem

Argh thanks

George

the Marriott –> KrisFlyer offer is a better deal in my opinion. 2 x SG –> KL return trip and you get the KrisFlyer gold for a year.

Ken

You suggest waiting until Jan but do you think their is a timeline to register? Like will they call off the partnership in a few weeks

George

Your concern is valid. I wouldn’t bet that this will last as long as the Shangri la offer since its elite program is rather niche compared to Marriott which is quite mass market. So I will say do it earlier than later, but waiting till Jan 24 to register should not be too bad a wait.

Christ

This is what I was wondering … I’m Lifetime Titanium with Marriott, which presumably means I just need 4 flights every year to become KFEG?! Sounds too good to be true, hope you’re right & it’s a long-term partnership (like Marriott + UA)

Ken

If I go for a KFEG Accelerator (4 flights for gold), do the 4 flights look at when we buy the ticket or when we get on the actual flight?

For example, if I buy my tickets today, but 4 flights are scheduled for July / August, then should I only register for the status match in May?

Or because I only registered for status match in May 2024, but I bought my tickets in January 2024, will I miss out on the status match?

bent

u will need to actually complete the 4 flights i.e. have the miles credited to your KF before you are considered as completed it.

James

Would a round trip KUL-SIN-DPS qualify?

Aakash CJB

Marriott platinum here! Planning to match to SQ Silver. Have 4-5 upcoming flights booked with SCOOT. Will that be counted for the 4 flights requirement for SQ Gold?

bent

no. it has to be flown on SQ, no codeshare, no award, no G RBD

Vincent

Part E, point 5:
5. To participate in, and complete, the Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Accelerator Challenge, a KrisFlyer Member must hold an *active*, validated account with Solitaire PPS Club, PPS Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold status in the KrisFlyer Program and an active, validated Marriott Bonvoy Account with Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite membership status obtained through the Preferred Partnership Program.

I believe that the 10th night should be achieved before the KFEG status expired.
In my specific case, I should register by Jan 2024, and complete the challenge before 28 Feb 2024 (KFEG expires).

Dear Aaron,

My Bonvoy Platinum is expiring in end Dec 2024 but my KFEG is expiring in end Dec 2023.

Should I go Bonvoy website to link to KF to extend my KFES for 12 month after my KFEG expires?

When is the best time to link? I am thinking of doing so in Feb 2024 and clock 4 flights to go back to KFEG by Aug 2024.

Can I just make 2 weekends flight to KL (to and fro consider 4 flight?)

Pdcor437

If I book a flight under K fare type is it eligible?

Alvin Ng

Hi hi! Can someone help to enlighten me? I am currently a Bonvoy Platinum member and I intend to sign up for the accelerated Krisflyer Gold challenge on 1 Jan 2024. Technically, I have 6 months to complete 4 flights. However, my Bonvoy Platinum will lapse in March. Do I need to complete my 4 flights before March whilst I am still Platinum? I’m pretty confused as under the terms & conditions, it states……… ” to participate in, and *COMPLETE*, the KrisFlyer Elite Gold Accelerator Challenge, a Marriott Bonvoy Member must hold an active, validated Marriott Bonvoy account with Marriott… Read more »

Brian

hi! thanks in advance!

can we re-enroll to the program? example is, we have enrolled as bonvoy gold (hence we can only get up to kf silver) but we want to re-enroll as soon as we get bonvoy platinum (in order to get up to kf gold)?

Is this match still available in Feb 2024? I want to start the accelerator in Feb as I have a holiday planned in July to stay 10 nights in W KL

Scott Barkla

Marriott Lifetime Platinum matched to KFES in mid Dec and 4 SQ flights flown in Dec. (The last on 29 Dec). Match to Silver was instant. How long will the gold take to kick in? Will it be 6 months? The flights credited immediately once flown.

Did you get your KFEG shortly after?

Steve Carter

I have the same question. I asked Krisflyer customer service and was told 6-8 business weeks ! That eliminates a lot of the benefit for usage during the remaining period of Gold status 🙁

Stephen Joso

Hi, when does this offer expires?

Clare

I am currently a KF PPS member as well as a Bonvoy Titanium Elite, is there any use in linking the accounts? And/or should i potentially hold off till next year in case I don’t requalify for PPS.

Natasha

Hello, would you know if this status match applies to a PPS solitaire supplementary card holder as well? Thank you.

Alvin

Just received my Marriott plat status after completing 10 nights!

Was curious if those of us who qualify this way will get the 5 nightly upgrade awards?

ken

I registered for the promo as I have 10 nights in about 5 weeks, however, it doesn’t show up in my bonvoy account although I got the email. How do I know if the nights I booked will count towards the accelerator program

Miles

My Exact same question. When i checked with Customer Service, they dont see the acceleration challenge to Platinum though i received the email.

LEONG

My KrisFlyer Elite Gold will expire in 31 Dec 2024. I registered for this matching and currently is Marriot Gold. Upon completing my 10 nights in June 2024, I will be upgraded to Marriot Platinum.

Then, in Jan 2025, I intend to use Marriot Platinum to match to KrisFlyer Elite Silver, because my KrisFlyer Elite Gold expired in 31 Dec 2024.

In Jan 2025, I complete 2 flights and in May 2025, I also complete 2 more flights.

Afterwhich, I will be upgraded to KrisFlyer Elite Gold.

The above scenario, correct or not?
Thanks.

Michelle

Do stays paid and booked through third party sites like Agoda or Hotels.com count as Qualifying Nights?
