Kris+ now allows transfers to KrisFlyer within 21 days of earning

Good news for you forgetful types: Kris+ now allows transfers to KrisFlyer within 21 days of accrual, versus the previous 7-day window.

Kris+ has made a small but important update to its app, which gives users up to 21 days to transfer any miles earned from merchants or converted from partner rewards points, instead of the previous seven.

S$5 for new Kris+ Users
Get S$5 (in the form of 750 KrisPay miles) when you sign-up with code W644363 and make your first transaction

While you should be transferring these miles the moment they’re earned anyway, I suppose this will be good news for the forgetful types out there.

Kris+ extends transfer window to KrisFlyer

Previously, Kris+ users had seven days to transfer to KrisFlyer any miles earned from partners or partner rewards points conversions. If they:

  • wait longer than seven days, or
  • spend any portion of the earned or converted points

the entire balance will be stuck in Kris+, where miles expire after six months and can only be spent at a rate of 150 KrisPay miles= S$1 (0.67 cents per mile). That’s a big haircut, given that KrisPay miles transfer to KrisFlyer miles at a 1:1 ratio, and you should be getting at least two cents per KrisFlyer mile for redemptions.

With the latest app update, this window for transfers to KrisFlyer has now been extended to 21 days. I’ve always thought this restriction was more a technical or regulatory issue rather than a gotcha, but regardless of the underlying reason, it’s good to see a more forgiving window.

But really, there’s no reason why you’d need 21 days. After earning miles with a merchant, or converting points from a partner, a big “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button appears.

Unless you happen to get distracted at that very moment by a puppy stampede and/or baby dangling from a railing, there’s no reason not to press it immediately.

As a reminder, you cannot transfer KrisPay miles earned from contests or challenges to KrisFlyer; these must be spent via the Kris+ app itself.

With the app update, Kris+ has also refreshed its Transaction History page, which makes it much simpler to filter transactions.

For example, I can choose to view transactions by payment amount or by miles earned, or check referrals.

Conclusion

Kris+ now gives users up to 21 days to convert any miles earned from merchants or partner points conversions, which while nice, really shouldn’t be necessary. There’s a big fat “transfer to KrisFlyer” button that appears after every transaction, and little excuse not to do it immediately.
