AMEX KrisFlyer Cards offering up to 3.3 mpd on Kris+

American Express has launched a new AMEX Offer for AMEX KrisFlyer Cards, which awards up to 3.3 mpd on all Kris+ transactions from now till 15 September 2024.

S$5 for new Kris+ Users

Get S$5 (in the form of 750 KrisPay miles) when you sign-up with code W644363 and make your first transaction

Registration is required, and can be done via the AMEX app or AMEX online banking portal. A maximum of 12,000 cards can be registered.

While this offer could be potentially useful to some, there are better cards out there which offer 4 mpd on Kris+ year-round.

Earn up to 3.3 mpd on Kris+ transactions

From now till 15 September 2024, AMEX KrisFlyer Cardholders will earn a bonus 2 mpd on Kris+ transactions as follows:

The bonus component is capped at S$500 of spending throughout the entire campaign period. In other words, the maximum bonus you can earn is 1,000 KrisFlyer miles. 

Bonus miles will be credited within 5 business days from qualifying spend, but may take up to 90 days from the end of the offer date. In practice, they post very fast though.

Better cards to use with Kris+

Even with the upsized earn rate, the AMEX KrisFlyer Cards aren’t my first choice for Kris+.

There are other cards which offer an extra 4 mpd on an evergreen basis, with an even higher cap.

What’s the best card to use for Kris+?

Earning miles with Kris+

Kris+ now partners with almost 450 different merchants island-wide, including Bottles & Bottles, Challenger, Harvey Norman, the Tung Lok Group, and TWG Tea, offering an extra 1-9 mpd on top of credit card miles.

To earn miles at a Kris+ merchant, all you need to do is: 

1. Scan the merchant’s Kris+ QR code
2. Enter the amount to be paid, and press “Pay” to pay via Apple/Google Pay

Don’t forget to transfer any KrisPay miles you earn to KrisFlyer within 21 days of the transaction, in their entirety. A big “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button will appear after every transaction. 

If you wait longer than 21 days, or spend any portion of the KrisPay miles earned, the remaining balance will be stuck in Kris+, where they can only be spent at 0.67 cents apiece with a six-month expiry.

Conclusion

From now till 15 September 2024, AMEX KrisFlyer Cardholders can earn a bonus 2 mpd on all Kris+ transactions, capped at 1,000 bonus miles.

But it’s hard to see why this would be appealing when there’s many other cards out there with better earn rates. Unless you’ve busted those caps already, you’re better off looking elsewhere.
