AMEX Platinum Charge publishes Plat Stay hotel list for 2025

The AMEX Platinum Charge offers a complimentary one-night stay each year at participating hotels in Singapore and overseas, known as the Plat Stay benefit. Regular rates at these properties range from the low hundreds to as much as S$2,000, so needless to say, some represent better value than others!

American Express has just published the 2025 Plat Stay list, and in this post we’ll go over the joiners and leavers, as well as other noteworthy changes.

How does Plat Stay work?

Every membership year, AMEX Platinum Charge cardmembers will receive a Plat Stay voucher in their welcome or renewal pack. This voucher is valid for one-night’s accommodation for two adults at participating hotels. 

Prior reservations are required, and must be made at least seven working days in advance. Unfortunately, you can’t book Plat Stays online, so you’ll need to email the hotel to confirm availability. Bookings cannot be amended or cancelled once booked, so be sure to confirm your plans before pulling the trigger.

All Plat Stays include breakfast for two adults, except for hotels in Singapore. That’s somewhat annoying, but then again, Singapore hotel participation has always been somewhat half-hearted (see the number of blackout dates they have compared to overseas properties).

As for room type, what’s nice about Plat Stay is that it doesn’t just chuck you in the lead-in category- well, not always, at least. At several hotels, the default category is a suite or even villa.

You must present the physical Plat Stay voucher together with the AMEX Platinum Charge upon check-in. If you forget to bring the voucher, the hotel has the right to charge its best available rate for the day, so be sure to double check.

Plat Stay 2025: Overview

The Plat Stay list for 2025 features a total of 36 hotels across 13 countries. Properties are mainly located in Asia Pacific and China, though there are a handful in Greece, Mexico and the Middle East. 

Hotels leaving Plat Stay

A total of 10 hotels have exited the Plat Stay programme for 2025. 

Notable losses here include the Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto, as well as the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta and Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. I personally used my 2024 Plat Stay at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur last year, and found the experience to be very pleasant.

Hotels joining Plat Stay

On the bright side, 18 hotels have joined Plat Stay this year, including new options in the Maldives in the form of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru.

Obviously, no one goes to the Maldives for just a single night, so your Plat Stay voucher will almost certainly have to be combined with a paid stay. But if you planned to visit either of these properties anyway, then saving more than S$2,000 a night will surely put you in a good mood (and I’d definitely pick the Banyan Tree over the Dhawa, as the latter is just a rebranded Angsana).

Elsewhere, the Banyan Tree Dubai is a newly-opened property that’s situated on its own little island and supposedly highly-rated, while the Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui offers an option in Koh Samui for the first time.

Changes to room categories

Leavers and joiners aren’t the only thing to consider, however.

Among 2024’s hotels that have renewed participation for 2025, some have changed the type of room that Plat Stays are eligible for. 

It’s a downgrade for the Angsana Teluk Bahang Penang, Cassia Phuket and Dhawa Yura Kyoto, where the 2025 room category is lower than 2024. 

Banyan Tree Bangkok is unchanged, as the Panorama Club is simply the renamed Serenity Club. Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa adds an additional room category in the form of a 1-bedroom suite, and Banyan Tree Shanghai On The Bund has a slight upgrade (though the only thing that improves is the view; the room itself is the same size as before).

Conclusion

10 hotels have exited the Plat Stay programme for 2025, while 18 new ones have joined, resulting in a net increase of 8 hotels compared to last year.
