World of Hyatt selling points with a 25% discount

From now till 15 April 2025, buy World of Hyatt points with a 25% discount, or 1.95 US cents each.

World of Hyatt has launched a new points sale, which offers a 25% discount on points purchases till 15 April 2025.

A 25% discount would normally be a good price for World of Hyatt points, but for 2025, the regular cost of a point has increased from 2.4 to 2.6 US cents each. This means that a 25% discount reduces the cost to 1.95 US cents per point, versus 1.8 US cents in 2024.

25% discount on World of Hyatt points

From now till 15 April 2025, 12.59 p.m. SGT, World of Hyatt members who purchase at least 5,000 points will receive a 25% discount.

Members can purchase up to 55,000 points per year. This figure is before any bonuses, so if you really need more World of Hyatt points, it might be better to wait till the programme offers a bonus, rather than a discount.

Otherwise, if you still donโ€™t have enough points, itโ€™s also possible to pool points across different accounts, a maximum of once every 30 days.

What can you redeem World of Hyatt Points for?

World of Hyatt still uses fixed price award charts, unlike Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy. While it does have peak pricing, its list of peak and off-peak dates are fixed (unlike Marriott Bonvoy, where a given date may be off-peak when you check today, then become a peak date when you check it next month).

Hereโ€™s how much you can expect to pay for a standard room redemption, depending on time of year.

Itโ€™s also possible to redeem points for an executive club room, which typically comes with added benefits like complimentary breakfast, evening cocktails, and in some places, afternoon tea.

Suites

If you need even more space, World of Hyatt allows you to book standard or premium suites for the following prices.

Category Off-Peak Standard Peak
1 6,500 | 7,000 8,000 | 10,000 9,500 | 13,000
2 11,500 | 13,000 13,000 | 16,000 14,500 | 19,000

6 36,000 | 42,000 40,000 | 50,000 44,000 | 58,000
7 43,000 | 50,000 48,000 | 60,000 53,000 | 70,000
8 56,000 | 70,000 61,000 | 80,000 66,000 | 90,000

Youโ€™ll typically find redeeming points to be better value during peak periods when revenue rates go through the roof, although the introduction of peak pricing offsets the value somewhat.

Hyatt Regency Bali

Itโ€™s also worth noting that World of Hyatt will be making its annual hotel category adjustments in March 2025, which will see a total of 151 hotels changing categories:

  • 118 hotels are moving to a higher category
  • 33 hotels are moving to a lower category

Hereโ€™s a breakdown of changes by region:

Region Up Down
United States 61 13
Africa & Middle East 2 4
Asia & Pacific 25 12
Canada, Caribbean & Latin America 12 3
Europe 18 1

Just like last year, North America and Europe get hit hard, with a significant number of increases relative to decreases.

But Asia isnโ€™t spared either. Last year it was more or less a wash (at least in quantitative terms), with 24 hotels increasing and 20 hotels decreasing. This year, 25 hotels are increasing with only 12 hotels decreasing. Those travelling to Bali and Japan will be particularly affected.

Some noteworthy hotels moving down a category include:

  • Grand Hyatt Amman down from Category 2 to Category 1
  • Park Hyatt Jakarta down from Category 4 to Category 3
  • Hyatt Regency Yokohama down from Category 4 to Category 3
  • Grand Hyatt Jeju down from Category 5 to Category 4
  • Park Hyatt Doha down from Category 5 to Category 4
  • Park Hyatt Busan down from Category 6 to Category 5
  • Thomson Hollywood down from Category 6 to Category 5

Some noteworthy hotels moving up a category include:

  • Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur up from Category 1 to Category 2
  • Caption by Hyatt Namba Osaka up from Category 1 to Category 2
  • Studios at Alila Seminyak up from Category 1 to Category 2
  • Grand Hyatt Bali up from Category 2 to Category 3
  • Hyatt Regency Bali up from Category 2 to Category 3
  • Alila Ubud up from Category 3 to Category 4
  • Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort up from Category 3 to Category 4

  • Hotel Toranomon Hills up from Category 6 to Category 7
  • Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo up from Category 6 to Category 7
  • Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills up from Category 7 to Category 8
  • Grand Hyatt Tokyo up from Category 7 to Category 8
  • Park Hyatt Tokyo up from Category 7 to Category 8

World of Hyatt offers some rather unique places to redeem your points, like Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort. Itโ€™s often in the shadow of the better-known Post Ranch Inn, but still an amazing property in and of itself, nestled deep within the natural beauty of Big Sur. Rooms here cost upwards of US$1,300 per night, but can also be redeemed from 35,000 points a night.

Ventana Big Sur

Otherwise, buying Hyatt points is a way of accessing some of the portfolioโ€™s top tier properties like the Park Hyatt Maldives, a Category 7 property which starts from 25,000 points a night. Given that revenue rates here can be upwards of US$900 a night including taxes, there are deals to be had by buying points instead.

When do World of Hyatt points expire?

World of Hyatt points expire after 24 consecutive months of inactivity.

Earning or redeeming a single point will reset the lifespan of your entire account.

What cards should I use to buy World of Hyatt points?

World of Hyatt points purchases do not code as hotel transactions. Instead, they are processed in USD by Points.com under MCC 7399 Business Services Not Elsewhere Classified.

Hereโ€™s the best cards to maximize the miles earned on your purchase:

You can always pair the Mastercard options above with the Amaze Card to enjoy lower foreign currency transaction fees compared to banks, though keep in mind youโ€™ll then only have the local earn rates for the general spending cards.

Do not use HSBC cards or the DBS Womanโ€™s World Card for Points.com purchases, as MCC 7399 will not earn points.

Conclusion

25% discount on World of Hyatt points

World of Hyatt has launched a 25% discount on points purchases for the next couple of months, though with the base price increasing, the cost per mile is slightly higher than last year.

As a general rule, you should never buy points speculatively. Only buy if you have a definite plan in mind, and burn them as soon as you can!
