Qatar Airways offering 30% Avios transfer bonus

From now till 31 May 2025, enjoy an uncapped 30% transfer bonus to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, including Citi in Singapore.

Qatar Airways has launched a new transfer promotion, which offers an uncapped 30% bonus on Avios conversions completed by 31 May 2025. This applies to transfers from 27 bank and loyalty programmes worldwide, including Citi credit card points in Singapore.

The promotion can unlock some great value redemptions, such as Singapore to Europe in Business Class for the equivalent of just 53,845 miles, or to the USA for the equivalent of 73,075 miles.

There are also attractive partner redemptions with Bangkok Airways or Cathay Pacific, and since the entire Avios network is interlinked, your bonus Qatar Avios can also be converted into British Airways and other “flavours” of Avios.

Avios can be converted through the British Airways “hub”

Provided you go in with both eyes open — Qatar Privilege Club has a history of unannounced changes to its award chart and award surcharges — this could be a lucrative offer.

Qatar Privilege Club offering 30% transfer bonus

Offer Details

From 1-31 May 2025, Qatar Privilege Club members will earn a 30% bonus on points conversions from eligible partners.

There is no cap on the maximum bonus that can be earned, but transfers must be completed by 31 May 2025 to be eligible. Transfers completed after this date will be ineligible for the bonus, even if they were initiated during the promotion period.

27 banks and loyalty programmes are participating in this campaign, including Citi in Singapore. HSBC Singapore is not participating this time round, but in any case it was never a good option for transfers to Qatar Privilege Club given the poor transfer ratio.

Transfers from Citi

Here’s how many Avios you can expect when transferring Citi Miles or ThankYou Points.

10,000 Citi Miles 10,000 Avios
13,000 Avios
25,000 TY Points 10,000 Avios
13,000 Avios

Transfers usually take 2-3 working days to be processed, and have a S$27.25 admin fee.

When will the bonus be credited?

The regular number of Avios will be credited initially, and the 30% bonus will be credited by 30 June 2025, in a separate transaction.

That said, during previous promotions those who transferred Citi points reported that the base and bonus Avios posted together, so the same might apply again this time round.

What can you redeem with Qatar Privilege Club?

Qatar Airways QSuites

Qatar Privilege Club offers good value redemptions between Singapore and Europe and the USA, at least in terms of miles.

*Assumes QPC Avios redeemed for Qatar Airways, KrisFlyer miles for Singapore Airlines. Not all destinations served by each carrier.

It normally costs you 70,000-75,000 miles for a one-way Business Class ticket to Europe, versus 103,500 miles for KrisFlyer, and 95,000 miles for a one-way Business Class ticket to the USA, versus 111,500 miles for KrisFlyer.

Factor in a transfer bonus of 30%, and those sweet spots get even sweeter— you could be flying to Europe in Business Class from the equivalent of 53,845 miles.

While you will need to transit in Doha, keep in mind that Qatar Airways serves many destinations that Singapore Airlines does not such as Boston, Chicago, Miami and Washington DC, so either way you’d be looking at a one-stop itinerary.

⚠️ Important Note

Back in December 2023, Qatar Privilege Club introduced peak and off-peak pricing. The prices quoted above reflect off-peak pricing. Peak pricing will cost 20% more. When searching for awards, always look for the “off-peak” label. Anything without a label is peak pricing.

Peak and off-peak pricing only applies to redemptions on Qatar Airways.

Even if you don’t plan to fly with Qatar Airways, there are some excellent partner redemptions to consider. Qatar Privilege Club partners with Bangkok Airways, which allows you to redeem tickets on the Singapore to Koh Samui route for just 6,000 miles. Commercial tickets on this route are often expensive, so there’s potential for great value here.

Here are some other examples of sweet spots worth considering (with the operating carrier in brackets):

Do note that you may need to transfer your Avios to British Airways in order for some of the options above to appear, as the Qatar Airways website does not display all partner awards. Here’s a guide to the process, which is really quite straightforward once you know where to click.

Qatar Privilege Club caveats

While Qatar Privilege Club does not impose fuel surcharges on Qatar Airways redemptions, it does tack on an award booking fee, payable on top of the standard airport fees and government taxes.

This fee was hiked without notice in September 2024 by up to 80% in some cases.

One-way Economy Business
Singapore to Europe US$70
US$90
(+29%)
US$140
US$180
(+29%)
Singapore to USA US$70
US$125
(+79%)
US$140
US$250
(+79%)

Keep in mind that this fee applies per segment, so if you’re flying through Doha on a round-trip Business Class ticket, for instance, you’ll pay US$720 in award redemption fees alone. Ouch.

Fortunately, this fee does not apply to non-Qatar Airways redemptions, so if you plan to fly with Bangkok Airways or one of its other partners, you won’t have to pay it (you will pay whatever fuel surcharges those carriers impose, however).

When do Qatar Avios expire?

Qatar Privilege Club Avios do not expire, so long as you earn or redeem at least 1 Avios every 36 months. Should you fail to do this, you can revalidate your Avios within one year of the end of the 36-month period by paying a fee.

Qatar Privilege Club Platinum members enjoy non-expiring Avios.

Conclusion

Qatar Airways has launched a transfer bonus of 30% from selected bank and loyalty programmes, including Citibank Singapore.

While this does open up some great value redemptions, I need to emphasise again that Qatar Privilege Club is not a programme you can comfortably park miles inside, given their history of unannounced programme changes and devaluations. If you plan to make transfers, also plan to spend your miles immediately, or in the very near future.

As a reminder, conversions must be completed by 31 May 2025 to be eligible, so don’t leave things till the last minute, especially if you’re converting points from a non-instant programme like Citi.

Parking Miles

I don’t understand the warnings about Qatar being a program where you should not park your miles. Afterall, you are not constrained to just Qatar – you can transfer to BA and others. So if Qatar devalues, you can simply use them in BA (or others). Isn’t this risk therefore overstated?

Milesman

The miles it costs on Qatar are historic at this point. Its 150,000 AVIOS for one way business to Zurich or Paris (for example).

I transferred 120000 avios to Qatar on 2 May and today 4 May , I have received 156k . Took the gamble and intend to use them by June . Hope they do not devalue after the promotion!!!
