Welcome to Milelion! Send us a question and win a $20 Capitamalls gift voucher!

Hello!

I’m very excited to announce the official launch of Milelion, the site that helps you travel better for less. Through this site I hope to share with you the many tricks I’ve picked up through my travels, and convince you that it is totally worth it to obsess over miles and points because these are why we can have nice things.

To celebrate the launch of Milelion, the most visited non-adult site on the interweb, we’re going to have a weekly giveaway of a S$20 Capitamalls gift voucher for the month of May

All you have to do to take part is send in any question you might have about travel hacking-  credit cards, airline bookings, hotel bookings, you name it.

I’ll select one question each week to answer in exhaustive detail. If I select yours, you win. Female names do not necessarily stand a higher chance of winning, but can’t hurt your chances.

Entering is simple- just leave your question in the comments section below. Remember, you’ll need to leave your email address if you want me to get back to you with the prize (your email address will not be visible to other commentors).

The deadlines…

  1. the insurance offered by rental car companies like hertz avis etc is always v expensive (10-20 extra per day), but i dont feel safe driving without it. what other options are there?

  2. can points from different credit cards go towards claiming a single plane ticket?

if I only want a max of 3 cards, and the bulk of my expenses are dining, online and misc, am I right that the correct cards are Citibank rewards, Uob preferred platinum Amex and Anz travel card?

    • hey there! yes, you certainly can. all your cards can pool into a central krisflyer miles account. for example if i have a DBS, citibank and uob card, all I do is specify my FFP number at the time I transfer the miles. You’ll be paying 3 separate transfer fees, though, approx $20 per transfer (DBS’s fee is about $40 but that’s a fee that covers unlimited conversions for the year).

Regarding your other question, sort of. ANZ Travel card (1.4 miles/$1 on general) and UOB Pref Platinum AMEX (4 miles per $1 on restaurants) are good calls, but I’d argue the DBS women’s card is better (men can get it too)- you get 4 miles per $1 on all online spending. even things like uber! citibank rewards gives you 4 miles per $1 at department stores so if you do most of your shopping online better to get a dbs woman’s card

  3. Any idea if it’s possible to book 2 suites class award tickets on the same flight?

Understand from the TPG site that sq typically releases little availability for such.

    • yes- it is still possible, although much more rare than before. assuming you book through krisflyer, you can still get 2 suites saver on routes to europe, australia and asia. I’ve not seen 2 suites saver released on routes to the USA (although only LAX and JFK have the a380 as of now). The trick is that you typically need to book more than 6-7 months out to see it. If you’re in the 1-6 month period you’re more likely to see 1 seat available, if at all. In general SQ doesn’t open up last minute suite tickets, but it’s always worth a try. Alternatively, call in to the call centre- if you’re persuasive enough they’ve been known to get inventory management to open up availability

  4. I saw an older post on ur site where they have a sign bonus of 15k miles. Is it still on? Cant find any info on uob site.

  5. […] started The Milelion back in May 2015, in the midst of a month-long hiatus from consulting.  Here’s the very first post, if anyone’s up for some […]
