Back in December 2017, Singapore Airlines announced that there would be changes to the service fee structure come 1 March 2018.ย Just yesterday, Aaron penned a post reminding everyone of the changes.
Good news has come out hot off my Twitter feed! The change that was planned to come into effect tomorrow (1 March 2018), has now been pushed back to 1 May 2018.ย
ย Here’s the link to theย specific pageย which reflects that the date of implementation has changed. (Aaron: it’s kind of funny how this is the first time that SQ’s technical problems work out in our favor).
What happens to my ticket after 1 May 2018?
As per their FAQ, if your flight wasย ticketed* before 1 May 2018, your ticket would be subject to the old service fee structure and you’ll be allowed to makeย one complimentary date change after 1 May 2018. After which, any further changes would be subject to the new service fee structure.ย (*If your waitlist clears after 1 May 2018, you’ll be subjected to the revised fees regardless of when you waitlisted your flight)
Bottom Line
While Singapore Airlines has pinned the delay on a “technical issue”, I suspect they might be reviewing the fee structure that was meant to be implemented as they certainly had no issue during the implementation of their new fare structure on 20 January 2018. Nonetheless, let’s rejoice that we now have until 30 April 2018 to book that perfect award flight before the new service fees kick in. SQ gets 1 brownie point from me for this.

Maybe it’s actually a typographical error… It was originally 1 Mar 2018 but now it’s 1 May 2018.
