Andaz Singapore reopening for staycations from 9 Sept; launches “up to 50% off” Flash Sale

The Andaz Singapore is reopening ahead of schedule and running a Flash Sale on stay and dining vouchers. Be advised, though- there are better ways to save.

A week ago I wrote about a fantastic deal at the Andaz Singapore for American Express cardholders. For a nightly price of just S$245 nett, they can book an 818 sq ft Andaz Studio Suite courtesy of the just-launched AMEX Open For Travel promotion, and Andaz’s deep discount staycation rates.

Now, Andaz Singapore was previously only taking staycation bookings with check-in dates from 1 October 2020 onwards. However, they’ve just announced on their Facebook page that the reopening date has been moved up to 9 September 2020.

To mark the occasion, they’re partnering with Grand Hyatt to run a Flash Sale from 8 to 22 September 2020, with “up to 50% off” stay and dining experiences (I’d take that claim with a hefty pinch of salt, for reasons you’ll see below).

Now, they haven’t actually unveiled the deals yet- instead, they’re asking people to join a “VIP list” to get 24-hour advance access to the offers.

But ain’t nobody got time for that. The Shutterwhale managed to find the Flash Sale landing page, and although it’s “protected” by an annoying pop-under that requests a “VIP code”, it’s a simple matter of using an ad blocker to remove the overlay and get full access to the site.

โ“ Manually remove the pop-under by using Ad Blocker’s “Block Element” feature, or simply add these to your filter list:

Grand Hyatt/Andaz Singapore Flash Sale Page

tl;dr: The F&B deals may be worth a punt, but the staycation deals are decidedly not worth it, especially if you have an AMEX card registered for the Hyatt statement credit promotion.

As a general point, do note that Andaz/Grand Hyatt vouchers purchased through the Flash Sale page will not trigger the statement credits on AMEX cards. These are only valid for payments via the Grand Hyatt/Andaz Singapore’s official website, or at the hotel itself.

Staycation Vouchers

Andaz King Studio Suite
Andaz King Studio Suite

Andaz Singapore is offering the following staycation vouchers, which are valid for stays from 10 September 2020 until 31 March 2021.

  Price (Nett) Inclusions
Andaz Large Suite S$650
  • Breakfast
  • S$100 F&B credit
  • In: 10 a.m
  • Out: 4 p.m
Andaz Residence Suite S$490
Andaz Studio Suite S$470
King Bed City View S$324
Andaz Great Workation S$177
  • 8-hour use on weekday
    (7 a.m to 7 p.m)
  • S$30 F&B credit

Truth be told, I wouldn’t call any of these vouchers great deals, especially if you’re planning to stay on weekdays (defined as check-in from Sunday to Thursday).

Why? Consider the staycation rates that Andaz is currently offering:

  Weekday
(Sun-Thurs)
Weekend
(Fri-Sat, PH and eve of PH)
Standard Room S$180 nett S$220 nett
Deluxe City View S$200 nett S$240 nett
Deluxe Bay View S$220 nett S$260 nett
Andaz Studio Suite S$320 nett S$360 nett
Andaz Residence Suite S$360 nett S$400 nett
Andaz Large Suite S$560 nett S$600 nett
Update: Apparently these rates have all since increased by $30-95 per night, which may mean the vouchers are now a better deal (but only on account of other deals getting worse…)

Here’s the main differences between the staycation rates and the Flash Sale vouchers:

Andaz Staycation Rates Flash Sale Vouchers
Breakfast โœ”๏ธ โœ”๏ธ
F&B credit N/A S$100
Early check-in Upon availability 10 a.m
Late check-out Upon availability 4 p.m
Cancellation Policy
  • 24 hour cancellation
  • One-time change of stay date with 48 hours notice*
  • 24 hour cancellation*
*I totally do not understand these two terms when read together. You can cancel at least 24 hours before arrival, but you can only change your date once with 48 hours notice? Come again?

Assuming we take the S$100 F&B credit at face value, here’s how much extra/ less you’re paying for the early check-in/late check-out should you buy the Flash Sale voucher instead of the staycation rate:

  Weekday
(Sun-Thurs)
Weekend
(Fri-Sat, PH and eve of PH)
Deluxe City View +S$24 -S$16
Andaz Studio Suite +S$50 +S$10
Andaz Residence Suite +S$30 -S$10
Andaz Large Suite -S$10 -S$50

Even where the voucher works out to be slightly cheaper, remember that you’re basically pre-committing to S$100 in F&B spend, with not much of a discount in return.

The only scenario where this might work out is if you want to stay in an Andaz Large Suite on a weekend and you don’t have an American Express card. That’s a very narrow use case, and  I’d rather book the staycation rate, enjoy the S$75 AMEX statement credit, and try my luck with early check-in/late check-out on the day itself.

All this assumes that Andaz won’t nerf the staycation rates once they launch the Flash Sale, of course, so if you’re thinking of booking, I wouldn’t wait too long (it’s fully refundable anyway).

The following terms apply to all staycation vouchers:

  • All vouchers will be valid from 10 September 2020 until 31 March 2021.
  • Black-out dates include 22- 31 Dec 2020 (both dates included), 1 Jan 2021 and 14 Feb 2021.
  • Rates are per room per night, and inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% tax.
  • Rooms reservation required to send to stay@andaz.com and are subject to room availability.
  • Complimentary one-time change of room stay date within a 48-hour cancellation period before arrival (new date subject to availability).
  • Breakfast for up to 2 guests daily is included with the rate. Children below 6 years old enjoy complimentary breakfast, and kids between 7 and 12 years old enjoy a 50% discount (SGD 17.50++).
  • A 24-hours cancellation policy applies. Room voucher will be forfeited in case of late cancellations.
  • Complimentary parking is not available for guests. Parking is available at DUO Tower, daily access fee applies.
  • The maximum occupancy per room is strictly two adults and maximum one child (below 12 and sharing the existing bedding).
  • Room stay is not eligible for World of Hyatt points.

Dining Vouchers

Andaz is offering two types of dining vouchers- cash vouchers, and vouchers for specific F&B items. The former are valid from 10 September 2020 to 31 March 2021, while the latter are valid from 10 September to 31 December 2020.

  Price (Nett)
S$120 F&B voucher S$90
S$50 F&B voucher S$40
Lazy Breakfast S$44
3 cocktails at Bar Square S$38.84
2 pizzas at Alley on 25 S$38.84
Afternoon Tea S$34

No harm picking up some F&B vouchers if you’re planning to dine at the Andaz Singapore anyway, but AMEX cardholders should remember that F&B spending also counts towards the statement credit.

Grand Hyatt Deals

Staycation Vouchers

Grand Hyatt Deluxe Room
Grand Hyatt Deluxe Room

Grand Hyatt Singapore is offering the following staycation vouchers, which are valid for stays up till 31 December 2020.

  Price (Nett) Inclusions
2 Bedroom Family Staycation
(Grand Deluxe Two Bedroom)
S$730
  • Breakfast
  • BBQ dinner at Oasis for 2 adults + 2 kids
  • 20% F&B discount
  • S$50 spa credit
Bed & Breakfast Staycation (Deluxe Room) S$380
  • Breakfast
  • 3-course set lunch at mezza9
  • 20% F&B discount
  • S$50 spa credit

If you thought the Andaz deals were marginal, the Grand Hyatt ones aren’t much better. Grand Hyatt has a separate staycation rate (use special offer code STAYC) which yields the following prices:

  • Grand Deluxe Two Bedroom at S$518 nett
  • Deluxe Room at S$294 nett

Here’s how the two options compare:

Grand Hyatt STAYC Rate Flash Sale Vouchers
Breakfast โœ”๏ธ โœ”๏ธ
Spa Credit S$50 S$50
F&B Discount 20% 20%
Set Menu High tea for 2 adults for Sun-Thu stays until 30 Sep 2020
(value: S$129)
B&B Staycation: 3-course set lunch at mezza9 (value: S$106)
Family Staycation: BBQ dinner at Oasis for 2 adults + 2 kids  (value: S$273)
Cancellation Policy
  • 24 hour cancellation
  • Unclear

The main difference between the STAYC rate and the Flash Sale vouchers is the set menu items, and when you do the math, it’s probably better to go for the cheaper STAYC rates. You could buy a separate F&B voucher for the Oasis BBQ dinner (see below) if you really wanted it.

Once again, remember that you can trigger the AMEX S$75 statement credit with the STAYC rate, but not the Flash Sale vouchers.

The following terms apply to all staycation vouchers:

Redemption:
  • Prior reservation is required in advance and is subject to room availability.
  • To redeem, enter special offer code “WHYQ” at https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/singapore/grand-hyatt-singapore/sinrs?offercode=WHYQ.
Terms and Conditions:
  • Book and stay by 31 December 2020.
  • Offer is applicable for Singapore residents only.
  • Up to two children 12yrs old and below can stay with complimentary breakfast buffet.
  • F&B discount is not applicable for BRIX, selected items at mezza9’s retail shop, and Happy Hour at martini bar and party room.
  • Additional expense beyond the value of this e-Voucher will be charged at check-out.
  • e-Voucher must be presented at the Front Desk upon check-in.
  • e-Voucher is to be redeemed or utilised in full value.
  • e-Voucher cannot be converted to cash, nor may it be sold or exchanged for any other products or services other than specified.
  • Redeemed e-Voucher cannot be refunded.
  • e-Voucher cannot be used in conjuction with Club at the Hyatt benefits and any other credit card promotions.
  • No extension of e-Voucher after the expiry.
  • Grand Hyatt Singapore reserves the right of final decision in case of any dispute arising from use of this e-Voucher and request alternative forms of payment if a voucher is fraudulently obtained or used.
  • Rates are inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% government tax.

Dining & Spa Vouchers

Grand Hyatt is offering two types of dining vouchers- cash vouchers, and vouchers for specific F&B items. The former are valid till 31 March 2021, while the latter are valid till 27/30 December 2020, depending on the voucher.

  Price (Nett)
S$100 F&B Voucher S$80
S$50 F&B Voucher S$40
mezza9 Sunday Brunch S$70
Oasis BBQ Platter  S$60
StraitsKitchen Dinner S$60
StraitsKitchen Lunch S$53
StraitsKitchen Weekend High-Tea S$33
Damai 90 Minutes Spa Voucher S$195

Just as the case for Andaz, there’s no harm snapping up one of these vouchers if you already have dining plans at the Grand Hyatt. But do remember that you might save more by paying directly at the hotel if you have an AMEX card, or a UOB Visa Infinite/DBS Insignia (both of which enjoy up to 50% off the bill)

Conclusion

I’m excited that the Andaz Singapore will be reopening ahead of schedule, and can’t wait to check the place out. I know that quite a few folks in the Milelion Community have snapped up those Studio Suites (I think they’re all sold out for the weekends in Oct/Nov), so we should be seeing a lot of reviews shortly.

The Flash Sale, on the other hand, is somewhat underwhelming. Don’t bother buying the staycation vouchers; your savings will be marginal at best, and most of them lock you into F&B spending you may or may not want to make. The F&B vouchers may be worth a look, but don’t forget the discounts available to credit card holders as well.

The discounts are whack af. Before covid, I booked myself a Andaz Residential Suite for 490++ using Hyatt Prive, got upgraded to Andaz Large suite 24 hours after making the reservation, got a $130 F&B credit and all my globalist benefits applied – checked in at noon, checked out at 4pm. We should serious boycott all these hotels until they can come up with better promos the likes of hotels in Thailand and Malaysia…

Joseph

hi, thanks for the write up. would you know if the dining vouchers earn WoH points? thanks!

Andrew

If I’m using the Amex offer, do I need to stay before 08 Nov since the payment will only be collected at the hotel? Thanks.

Jason

Which card do u recommended to use?

Jason

A staycay with no free parking for guests? Why? so where am i supposed to park the car? Grab there and grab back? I mean, if you wanna give a good promo, throw in the perks man
