Shangri-La Golden Circle offering 50% off hotel award nights

Redeem standard rooms, club rooms and suites at 50% off the usual Golden Circle points requirements, for stays till 31 January 2021.

From 15-30 October 2020, Shangri-La’s Golden Circle loyalty program is running a “Less is More” promotion with 50% off award nights at all participating Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts worldwide. All stays must be consumed by 31 January 2021.

The program will also be extending all expiring Golden Circle awards points through to 31 December 2021.

Under the Less is More promotion, all Standard Rooms, Club Rooms and Executive Suites will cost 50% less, if booked between 15-30 October 2020 and stayed by 31 January 2021.

Reservations can be made through the Golden Circle website, Shangri-La mobile app or Golden Circle members services, and blackout dates apply. As a reminder, here’s the Golden Circle award redemption chart:

The Shangri-La Singapore falls under Collection E, which means a standard room will cost 3,250 points per night under the Less is More promotion.

I don’t think that’s worth using your points (it’s possible to get a Shangri-La staycation for just S$300 nett through Trip.com), but it may be a moot point because I can hardly find any award space at the hotel. That’s because the standard room here is the Tower Wing Deluxe Room, and the whole tower is closed for SHNs at the moment.

While 50% off awards is a generous promotion indeed, do note that it’s slightly less rich than the one we saw in July. Under that offer, it was possible redeem club rooms and executive suites at 60% off.

Which Shangri-La hotels are participating?

With the exception of the following, all Shangri-La properties worldwide are participating in this promotion.

  • JEN Singapore Orchardgateway by Shangri-La
  • JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La
  • Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai
  • Shangri-La Al Husn Resort and Spa
  • Shangri-La Hotel, Hefei
  • Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Yuanqu
  • Shangri-La Hotel, Tangshan
  • Shangri-La Hotel, Ulaanbaatar
  • Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver
  • Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives
  • Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka
  • Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa
  • Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort & Spa, Hainan

There’s no real loss here, given that the JEN Orchardgateaway/Tanglin and Shangri-La Sentosa aren’t open for staycation guests right now anyway.

I’m pleased to see that all four of Shangri-La’s properties in Hong Kong are participating. With the upcoming Singapore-Hong Kong travel bubble, who knows- they may yet be relevant.

Conclusion

I personally value a Shangri-La Golden Circle point at about 1.25 US cents each (the value I could get if I redeemed it for F&B credit as a Jade member), so do the math and see if you come out on top.

While there aren’t a whole lot of ways to earn Golden Circle points in Singapore, they’re one of the more valuable loyalty currencies out there on a point for point basis. Hopefully they’ll partner up with a bank soon.
