KrisFlyer Spree Year-End Campaign: Win your share of 100,000 KrisFlyer miles

Be among the top 4 KrisFlyer Spree spenders each week from now till 31 December 2020 and win 2,888 miles.

From 28 October to 31 December 2020, KrisFlyer Spree is running a year end shopping campaign with more than 100,000 KrisFlyer miles to be given away.

The top four weekly spenders every week between now and the end of the year will win 2,888 KrisFlyer miles each- not exactly life-changing, but a nice potential bonus if you were planning to shop with KrisFlyer Spree anyway.

โ“ What is KrisFlyer Spree?

KrisFlyer Spree is basically ShopBack, but with miles instead of cashback. KrisFlyer members who click through the links on KrisFlyer Spree and make purchases on selected e-commerce sites will earn rebates in the form of KrisFlyer miles. You shop and pay as per normal, and KrisFlyer Spree tracks your purchases and awards miles accordingly. Any miles earned via KrisFlyer Spree are on top of what you earn from your credit card.

Is it better value to use ShopBack or KrisFlyer Spree? It all boils down to how much you value a mile. I use 1.8 cents each as my benchmark, although yours may be different.

KrisFlyer Spree’s Year End Giveaway

The promotion period is split into nine qualifying periods (all times refer to 00:00- 23:59, Singapore time zone):

  • 28 October 2020 โ€“ 3 November 2020
  • 4 November 2020 โ€“ 10 November 2020
  • 11 November 2020 โ€“ 17 November 2020
  • 18 November 2020 โ€“ 24 November 2020
  • 25 November2020 โ€“ 1 December 2020
  • 2 December 2020 โ€“ 8 December 2020
  • 9 December 2020 โ€“ 15 December 2020
  • 16 December 2020 โ€“ 22 December 2020
  • 23 December 2020 โ€“ 31 December 2020

The top four spenders (based on the value of approved transactions in USD) during each of these qualifying periods will each win 2,888 KrisFlyer miles. Spending at any KrisFlyer Spree merchant counts towards this promotion.

Members can win more than one prize throughout the promotion period, but each member can only win one prize per qualifying period. For example, you could win 2x prizes of 2,888 KrisFlyer miles by being the top spender from 4-10 November 2020 and 2-8 December 2020.

The full T&C of the promotion can be found here

How soon are miles credited?

Transactions made through KrisFlyer Spree will first appear as “pending” in your KrisFlyer Spree account within 5 working days from the date of transaction. This will be updated to “approved” once the merchant has validated your purchase, a process that typically takes 90 days. If you’ve booked a hotel/travel purchase, the 90 day period starts only after the stay/travel has been completed.

Because of the time lag between purchases and merchants’ verification of said purchases, the prizes for the year end campaign will only be awarded by 31 May 2021.

What card should I use for KrisFlyer Spree?

If you’re asking this, you may not quite have understood how KrisFlyer Spree works.

You don’t pay through KrisFlyer Spree; it’s merely a portal through which you access the merchant’s website. The best card depends on the underlying merchant. In general, the following cards should do the trick:

Conclusion

It’s always a good idea to compare KrisFlyer Spree with sites like ShopBack and RebateMango to ensure you’re getting the best value (to compare cashback to milesback, you’ll need to have your valuation of a mile figure at the back of your hand- I use 1.8 cents/mile).

In my experience, KrisFlyer Spree can either credit miles really quickly, or at a snail’s pace. It comes down to the merchant and how quickly they confirm the transaction, suffice to say you shouldn’t be relying on it as a quick source of miles.

The prospect of receiving a bonus of 2,888 miles is nice, but you shouldn’t go in expecting to get it- there’s no way of knowing what the “top score to beat” will be anyway.
