Marriott Bonvoy offering new members free hotel night after two stays

Sign up for a Marriott Bonvoy account and get a free hotel night with two paid stays by 30 April 2021.

If you don’t already have a Marriott Bonvoy account, there’s currently an opportunity to earn a free hotel night after just two paid stays with Marriott’s new member sign up offer. This has been periodically extended, and the latest iteration is now valid for stays up till the end of April 2021.

Marriott Bonvoy members who sign up via this link and complete two paid stays at a property under the Marriott umbrella by 30 April 2021 will earn a free hotel night certificate. A qualifying stay can be any duration in length, but must be booked directly with Marriott (i.e third party rates purchased through Klook, Trip.com etc. won’t count).

Stays at all Marriott-affiliated properties in Singapore will qualify, except the Ritz-Carlton Millennia (which does not participate in Marriott Bonvoy at all)

The free night certificate is valid at hotels costing up to 25,000 points per night. Here’s the current award chart for perspective:

Category Off-Peak  Standard Peak
1 5,000  7,500 10,000
2 10,000 12,500 15,000
3 15,000  17,500 20,000
4 20,000  25,000 30,000
5 30,000  35,000 40,000
6 40,000  50,000 60,000
7 50,000 60,000 70,000
8 70,000 85,000 100,000

25,000 points will cover up to a Category 4 hotel during standard season. Sadly, Marriott Bonvoy properties in Singapore start at Category 5, so you won’t be able to redeem this locally.

However, the certificate is valid for up to one year from the date of issue (this refers to the date you need to stay by), so if the COVID-19 situation improves, you just might be able to redeem it overseas. To give you some ideas of Category 4 properties around the region…

If you already have a Marriott Bonvoy account, it’s probably not a good idea to create a second just to take advantage of this promotion- get caught, and both your accounts will be forfeit. But for those of you who haven’t bothered dabbling in hotel loyalty before, this is a good chance to get acquainted.

Here’s the full T&C for this promotion:

  • This promotion is valid only for new members of the Marriott Bonvoy™ program.
  • Existing Marriott Bonvoy members are not eligible.
  • Make two paid stays between 12/21/2020 and 4/30/2021 at participating hotels during your earning period to receive a Free Night Award (worth up to 25,000 points)
  • For a list of current Marriott Bonvoy participating brands, visit https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/earn/hotels.mi
  • A “stay” is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/checkout activity on any points-eligible rate (“Qualifying Rate”). 25,000 points is valid for a free night at Category 1-4 hotels.
  • Please note that this is an electronic award and will be automatically deposited into your Member account after completing two qualifying paid stays.
  • Award must be redeemed within one year from the date of issue.
  • You may use additional points to upgrade your room type, subject to availability.
  • Award is valid only in connection with individual travel and is not applicable to group travel, package tours, conventions or other special rates or package programs.
  • Award may be used to pay for the expense of your room and related room taxes only.
  • The Award may not be used to pay for food, beverages, service charges, resort fees, other taxes or other incidental expenses.
  • You will not earn points for room charges or room tax covered by the Award.
  • The Award is good for one night, for one room only, at Marriott Bonvoy participating hotels and counts toward Elite-level membership for the room the member personally occupies.
  • Complete Marriott Bonvoy program terms and conditions and privacy policy apply.
  • See https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi#earn for more information.
  • Award must be used by the member.
  • Award cannot be extended past expiration date or re-credited for points.
  • The Award is nontransferable and has no cash value.
  • All reservations are subject to Marriott Bonvoy redemption availability.
  • To verify your Free Night Award or other account information online, log in to your account at https://www.marriott.com/loyalty.mi.

Conclusion

I’m obviously long in the tooth for this, but it’s a nice little bonus for anyone racking up the staycations right now. Remember that you must sign up via this link and complete your second stay by 30 April 2021 to earn your free night certificate.

As an aside, this can be done in conjunction with the ongoing Marriott Bonvoy status challenge, so there’s a chance to use your paid nights for dual purposes.
